  • Bonjour à tous,
Today at the château is not a great day for the family, waking up to the sight of the beautiful stone wall for the walled garden crumbled into pieces. This stunning wall unfortunately could no longer stand the Stress and strain from the tree roots and Ivy that has worked its way through the stone work.
With the family tackling so many other jobs at the moment, and just out laying the last huge part of the budget for the septic system, the family have no way to fund the wall restoration so have turned to there fantastic community for help.
The family has set up a GO FUND ME page to help with the wall restoration and for a chance to be part of the walls history.
The family will create a plaque with each persons name that has helped with the restoration of the wall and will be mounted pride of place on the new wall for all to see.
⬇️ REBUILD THE CHATEAU WALL PAGE ⬇️

Thank you all so much for your help and support.
    About us.
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.
Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK to rural France and restoring this beautiful building to its former glory.

Safety, this is most important. Walls can be rebuilt, this has had a lifetime of nature and forty years of lack of care. The chateau is saying maybea change is needed. We love your love and passion to restore and rebirth of chateau. Christmas was a beautiful example of whats to come then it will be amazing

My dad would always say “ Everyday is a good day, some are better than others.” Terry this is one of those “other” days.
When you rebuild the wall it will be better and stronger than before.

When rebuilding the wall, possibly think about building reinforced steel concrete wall (on a solid foundation) that can be covered with the stones. This way you use less stones, and the remaining stones can be used for future projects.

I agree. Edd and Anna on Bordeaux Life built a wall at their "passion project" from cinder block faced with stone they found on site. It looks amazing and much simpler to create than the massive one they just lost. That's a wall that can be constructed in phases over time, with the facing and terra cotta capping tiles the final stage. They'll be good for another 100 years.

Hey bonnie lad, it’s disappointing, but it is stone and it can be rebuilt and all the ivy will be out of the way making the rebuild easier. I was a trustee of a big garden and it happened to one of our walls, but we rebuilt and you would never know it had fallen. You’ve got your family and a future together and you’ll get there. xxx

The garden is run by a trust, we had to bring in experts as part of the wall was medieval and we had an appeal. But I’m sure volunteers would come to help. Maybe ask the Pethericks or Steph Jarvis how to go about it. Maybe wait until Spring.

Oh my dear Terry, your tears were felt across the world. Everything happens for a reason. You won't see it at the time, but later on you will. I know all the hard work everyone has done seems to crumble as did the wall when it fell...but you have a love, a determination, a heart and soul that belongs to this long standing chateau. Hang tight dear heart, all will get done in its due time. I hope my hug blows across to you on the winds of hope and friendship and prayers. ❤

There is nothing unmanly about shedding a few tears, it shows your love and commitment to the chateau restoration. I’m glad that the wall fell at night and no one was hurt, a major disaster has been averted. Eventually, the stone will be reused for a new wall or something else. I do admire you all, you work well and support each other and it’s lovely to see. Patrick is a great supervisor, he is a star.

Good evening from Canada. I so empathize with Terry and family, it brought me to tears. I own a large stone building in a village and have been through so many highs and many many lows over the 13 years. The lows always came when money was tight and the building was full of guests, and I was just coming off working 2 weeks of 16 hour days. That is when the $34,000.00 boiler went in the middle of a Canadian winter and they also found the new chimney liner was ripped and the stone chimney had to be taken down to accommodate the new larger liner. This is when the gale force winds came and the last portion of the roof decided to leak through the lighting which blew the electrical system throughout the entire building. $60,000.00 dollars later, it was devastating. That was 3 years in and I have finally gotten on top of all issues 12 years later and I was diagnosed with cancer last year and I am in the fight of my life. Please take care of yourself, stress is a big issue, as my grandmother use to say "This too shall pass" and although the work is unimaginable now and the financial implications are hugely overwhelming, you will make it through! You and Ash have too much passion and drive for this not to succeed and with the support of both your families (especially Tony and Tracy) by your side. This is the lowest point and there is no way to go but up! Thinking of your family today and look forward to many videos to come while I go through my journey. I am grateful to watch every episode. Best Wishes Heather

Dear Heather, I saw your comment and can tell from that youre a person who never gives up. I saw you telling about diagnosed with cancer. Im truly sorry for you, I hope time will heal you ❤. Me different, being a chronic patient with nervepain daily dealing with it on morfine 24/7 maximum dose.. I just began, 2 weeks ago, with starting to drink celery in morning after waking up. Nothing and I tried so much natural pills and stuff, did anything good for me, and morfine makes me so tired with my 2 kids. Laying me on bed so much in daily time. Just started of with this Celery in the morning as a juice, from my blender, it really changes my energy in a unbelievable way. 90% bedtime or being up, shopping grocery again, cooking wich I love, again. It gives me back my life! And I just started 2 weeks ago! I know they use it on cancer. I tried in 7 years that much that didnt work. No doctor treatment is working, I was send away in hospital after surgery and research last year: 'live with it'. I'm 47 years old, always worked hard, 2 little boys 12/6 years old, so no accepting there for me! The movie "Heal" was so inspiring for me, I directly researched it an ordered the book 'Medical medium" from Anthony William. He wrote a book on celery too.I never ordered that but I will. I just didnt knew it!🤭 Its the most powerfull vegetable. Please look into it, if you dont know it and never give up! And please give celery a change to let it work for you! Lets hope we will recover from pain and things not being invited into our bodies: We have a life, so take care my friend!Much love send❣

No matter comments to the contrary, that area has to be safe and it wasn't. Shame, but the way it was crumbling, it was only a matter of time. What a great job of bringing it down and clearing up. Wonderful to get the tree stumps out as well.

So sorry. I wondered if the ivy was keeping it together. If she was going to fall, this is the time. No one was around, including playing children, once you are open for guests. A Godsend. If there are stones worth reusing. You may be able to use them in columns with black iron fencing inbetween for strength. Those stones would match the walls on the grounds. I love old estates with wrought iron works and flowering vines. Don't be sad Terry. Now you can put your stamp on perhaps a lovey stone fireplace, to enjoy family evenings next to your BBQ area ~ Diane

We had ivy at our last home, the previous owners let it go wild, it wrapped its way around trees and killed them which was costly to have them removed as they were huge gum trees. I can understand Terry’s tears with so much that needs doing, it’s such a huge shock emotionally and to the hip pocket.

Image if one day the boy and the dogs were playing around the wall, the ground gave way and they were crushed by the wall. The first thing you would ask is why did the wall not fall in one of those high winds, hard frosts, middle of the night. I find in life when bad things happen it is what we would have wished for if the worst had happened. I am Tracey's age. By this time of life we know how bad things can get. We also know to be happy for those that support us and to appreciate the shared meals, warm beds, sun on our backs and cool breeze. You make so many proud.

That broke my heart too. Any time I accidentally break something I have that's been around a couple hundred years it makes me feel terrible. At least yours was through no fault of your own.

have you thought of building a hedge instead and using the stone for gateways or doors in the hedge? i will contribute but that might be an option which would allow you to get it done faster but still look beautiful

It's a shame, but like your Mom said, it was a blessing that no one was hurt, or the animals. That darn ivy can rot trees, pull mortar apart and another blessing is the fact that you weren't working with it like you did on the other one when you were pulling the ivy out and swinging from the vines and your visiting family members buzzing all around it....that could have been disastrous!

Terry don't let the wall falling down get you down. Just keep telling yourself that at least it fell with no one around. You don't have to worry about the wall rebuild right now, it for those future videos. It will be fun to watch the new wall go up. I will be waiting patiently 🙂. Ash give Terry a big hug from me.

Wow, some beautiful stone in there. Yes, Ivy and trees are hard on stone and brick walls. Plus the years soon take it down. It can be restored as you all are restoring the beautiful Chateau! That could have fallen on you all as you were pulling the ivy off. Love those stones... The years of the ivy and trees have certainly taken a toll on the wall. These men have done a great job of cleaning up all the stumps and stones. Excellent ... lol Patrick likes his ride! lol

Yes, I mentioned that too. I think formal hedges would look quite posh surrounding that chateau. Sure, it might take a while to grow in, but they won't have to finance it all at once. If they have the path of the previous wall still marked out, they could just plant as they can afford. Ans they have all that stone that can be repurposed for paths in other gardens and what nots.

Stay positive, this too shall pass. Thankfully no one was hurt.
Unfortunately the wall had been neglected for a very long time and this collapse was bound to happen.
    It can be rebuilt.
Lots of love and best wishes to you all. 💖💖💖

Somewhere in France a castle is being built using old methods. Guédelon Castle! Perhaps they could help you get in touch with someone who could use your wall as a teaching experience! There's a show that went there; Secrets of the Castle, & it's on UA-cam.

Snap! We have had a three storey derelict house collapse.. we were going to secure the top just before it all fell and also suffered from all the rain last year and then the frost.. still waiting for diggers to take down the end of the house.. C''est la vie. Thank goodness nobody was under it when it collapsed x
