Rooney is one of those players who don’t seem to be aging at all.
Reason being that he already looked like 35 year old when he was seventeen.

A lot of people forget how a Jose treated Bastian Schweinsteiger when he came in after LVG was sacked. Threw him in the reserves plying in the U23s and started only a few cup games. Even Martial had expressed his frustration when he was forced to give his no9 to Zlatan. Not surprised to see no one sympathysing with him on social media after his sacking.

It was so odd, at Chelsea (1st spell) & Inter, the communication between Mourinho and the players was one of his biggest strengths; he was loved unanimously by almost all the players who would’ve taken a bullet for him.
I’m not sure if it was mental fatigue but he appeared to be less approachable and started to turn on his players after his time at Real.
The irony is that he called Wenger “a specialist in failure” when all things considered, his Arsenal teams near the end of his tenure were at least equal to Mourinho’s (in his last Chelsea season/during his time at United).
I think it’s proof that remaining relevant at the top for so long is very very difficult in an ever evolving game. Maybe that’s why he started to appreciate Wenger more when it came to the end of his career.

To me Rooney is a Man Utd Legend. However, I do remember at some point near the end, it was frustrating to watch him and fans like me wanted his wages off the books and the signature of a top player in CAM because Rooney didn't take on players or do 1-2s to run in or long shots. It was always a safe pass to the wing; no guile. With his passing and vision, people wanted him to emulate Scholes.
In my opinion, he should've rotated with Zlatan. The latter was too old to play every week in the EPL and UCL. Mourinho mismanaged the players. Zlatan got injured and Rooney wanted to leave, so we ended up wasting money on Lukaku who was also overplayed.

イアン / ian 飯テロ I wouldn’t say desperate. I think they genuinely thought hecould take the club forward. But it was hugely mistaken and a degree of foresight would’ve allowed them to see that this would’ve happened eventually. It always has with him. It happened at Chelsea when he fell foul of the board and players, he was driven out by the Italian press and everyone involved in football there apart from inter themselves when he was with them, he fell foul of the players and board at Madrid, he fell foul of the players and board at Chelsea AGAIN and the same thing has happened at man united. His attitude has cost him his job more than his actual management.

tbh 52% of man u board n fans never wanted Mourinho as their manager. they still decided to hire him and despite knowing his methods they wanted him to work their way. everybody wanted him to use young players, play attacking football and win trophies straight away. he played attacking football, used young players and gave them 2-3 trophies in his 1st season but he was still criticised for finishing 6th. So he decides to go back to his methods, n guess what? It worked, they managed to finish 2nd and FA cup final but was still criticised for playing defensive. This season, most of his players weren't with him during pre season. The players he wanted weren't bought. the players who returned after world cup came back with a shirty attitude n stopped playing. The only person who worked hard for man u was mourinho but hez the one who gets sack and blame. that shows how ungrateful man u board nfans are. Everyone's happy now that the players (traitors) who were limping a week ago played attacking football. they threw away points to get manager sacked. And Rooney, who was praising Jose a few weeks ago now questioning his methods. Well done!! ManU hv finally decided to become next Tottenham/ arsenal. Attack attack attack but no trophies.

He didn't really take care of his body in the same way as other elite players (like ibrahimovic who still had the physicality to replace him) and paid the price of a shortened career at the top level.
