I remember watching Pat's interview the next morning when he spoke about it being "not the best game of rugby". That didn't make much sense to me. Although granted, I had a throbbing headache, was partially deaf, had no voice, and felt like my heart was on it's last few hundred beats.
It wasn't pretty, and it wasn't our most flattering scoreline. But it was an absolutely titanic clash. Our sport is often likened to gladiatorial combat in the Colosseum, but that game has come the closest.
Of course Genge, Joyce, and the other Bristol boys knew exactly what it meant. No steps back indeed! But so did everyone else. Just look at the effort from the likes of Piutau and Morahan, guys who couldn't be further away from their birthplace, but fighting for home, in the home ground, in-front of an ecstatic home crowd.
Bath didn't score anything we didn't hand them on a silver plate, and those mistakes are easily fixed. But to all ye other clubs, be here warned. The mighty Bears tore Bath apart limb from limb for every score of theirs.
