The whole 2nd gen we’re all solid vocalists but criminally underrated. The 8th gen had a lot of charm but we’re underrated as well as underutilized especially Aika. I do agree with Gaki’s rank despite the fact she became one of the lead vocalists but she wasn’t really THE lead as you said. Zukki needs no introduction. Kaedii left way too early imo I was taken aback by her very early graduation. I wanted to see more from her like she was the whole package visuals, vocals and dance skills all in one. Aya I was curious about as she’s the one 1st gen member I know the least about as well. Hopefully Akane gets more of a push cuz her improvement is no joke.
Well about Yasuda Kei, I've read about her on Japanese Wikipedia. It says there that from 1998 to 2000 she never really managed to stand out, at the time 1st generation members and then Goto Maki were the most appreciated and popular ones. Until Ishibashi Takaki from Utaban decided to make fun of her on the show, that gained her popularity but since then she was always seen as the member to tease, joke about or make fun of. And she has never been taken seriously ever since... she even graduated pretty early and I feel it's because of that too.
I feel so sorry that Ishiguro Aya decided to graduate just in 1999! She had so much potential and I loved her as a member of Tampopo. She could have done a lot more! But she decided to graduate, fell in love and married and gave birth the next year.
I am sure Nakazawa Yuko would have never auditioned if she knew she would have ended up in an idol group ahah She wanted to be a rock vocalist. She was already 28 when 12 years old members joined the group... but she has always been a great singer, and some of her solo songs are amazing as well. I am sure that what happened to her unexpectedly, changed her life for the better and made it amazing. I can't think she is as old as my mother now...
I feel so sorry for Kago Ai, looks like she struggled so much through her life and even now that she is trying so hard to rebuild her career, she isn't doing as good as other former hello! Project members. Her youtube is not nearly as popular as Tsuji's or Mikitty's one. Tsuji seems to be doing great, even if she got pregnant when she was just 19, she and her husband are still happy together, and she is extremely popular. Her UA-cam channel has been skyrocketing for years!!!
I have always loved Makoto. And to be honest I felt that she was forced to graduate alongside Konno back in 2006. Konno seemed to have a proper reason for wantinng to graduate, she attended university, graduated and became a television announcer. But Makoto looked pretty clueless and she just decided that it could be a good thing to move abroad and learn english. Which she barely used in her future and she got back to the showbusiness. Plus english never looked her thing, as I watched her old lessons online and her pronunciation was quite bad. So I don't know, to me it was Tsunku's choice to graduate and not her own. Sad thing!
Kaedii was an amazing center she shine so much in the latest single. Management made a huge mistake only letting her shine when it’s already too late. I just think this current era of Momusu could have been sooooo much more interesting if other members got to take turn being center instead of the usual Mizuki-Oda-Maachan (not blaming them just the management sucks)
@@dt8602 I don't know a lot about singing, but I can say that Yasuda, Takahashi, Fujimoto, Oda, Kudo and almost Kitagawa have good technique. They have a good voice control. Almost all of them have a Excellent position in their voices, they know how to use their head and chest voice and how to do changes between them and make it sound smooth. They can control the volume and they know how to use it to make the songs more interactive. Also you can see how while they're singing, the voice just flows, they don't have any complication to hit each note.
As a Gaki Oshi, I couldn't agree more with you! Risa was one of the main singers during Platinum Era but she never led a single. Even Eri got a chance to appear and sing more in Kimagure Princess but Risa never got a chance... I don't blame management, there were rumors that Tsunku wanted to give her more solo lines but she didn't want it because it was hard for her to control her voice during live performances. And that's it... She could have been better used.
Totally agree on Gaki being overlooked. She could have been up there with Ai and Reina during Platinum instead of just being like a supportive vocals with Eri. But i’m glad at least she got a kickass graduation single and had big vocals moments there
I think in OG it really is yasuda kei. Kaori is my oshi but in terms of singing it’s definitely Yasuda Kei. I’m mad because in golden era, its allways nacchi and goto maki. It makes me mad until now how she was under utilized. In colorful era, it is definitely kanon my oshi. She was so under utilize that it makes me think whether tsunku has other plan for her or just plain stupid. From yasuda to Linlin to Kanon all of them are so great but were push in the back.
I don't think Yaguchi Mari was underrated AT ALL! She basically was the backbone of Hello! Project and she has been in countless sub-units. So maybe she has never been really central in morning musume songs but she was given countless chances to shine during her hello! Project time. I am just sad she got involved in that dating scandal and had to graduate suddenly without a proper graduation concert. After 7 years in morning musume that was definitely a shame.
Well, Risa and Aika was part of the Platinum Era where all members really shined and performed really well. even Sayumi whos the weakest when it comes on vocal knew how to call the spotlight. I wouldnt say Risa and Aika was underrated, its just the other members shone more brightly. For Akane and Kaede, actually for most of new gen members, they dont have a choice as the 9th,10th,11th gen are still active and you gotta admit that its impossible to take the spotlight from those members. But with Maa-chan, and soon Fukuhime leaving the group, Sakura will the only one left who will they have to outshine. Next year will be the year of the new gen members. For Zuki, hers is a special case of racial preference. The management started ignoring Zuki when she started gaining weight which is also the reason why she is less popular with the japanese fans because japenese fans like their idols to be "lean" which is really absurd.
I have noticed two different ways of acting since a new member starts: 1. You get in and don't get much attention until you excel at something on your own. (ishida, michishige) 2. As soon as he enters, they pay a lot of attention to him and then not so much anymore (yokoyama, kaede)

Ayappe would have stayed if she didn't become pregnant. Nakazawa-san has never been an ace cuz of Nacchi. And for Kei-chan, it's the same that Nakazawa-san.

Actually you are wrong. Aya didn't leave because she was pregnant, cause she gave birth a full year after her graduation. So maybe she was already dating at the time but she wasn't pregnant.
Ichii Sayaka has actually a long story behind her graduation. She was told by their manager that after Fukuda Asuka graduation she would be given her place and gain more attention and space, but later instead that place was given to Goto Maki, so she didn't really have any chances to shine, aside from her only single with Pucchimoni. Even in her graduation single she doesn't receive any line or attention and you can barely spot her in the mv. So she graduated and formed her own band, they have been kinda successful for a couple of singles but then they flopped. She released a solo single but it flopped too and then she married the guitarist from her former band which she divorced years later. Now she remarried and she is actually also a politician in Japan. That's all I know 😂
