Closing in on 1K subscribers! Good milestone. Glad to see the addition of the topsoil and thinking about how great that pile is going to look once things start growing on it. Excited to see what y'all end up deciding on doing for the winter, and congrats on getting the yurt up and done before the weather set in!
Yay, thanks! At 1k subscribers we can apply for monetization. Our share of the ad revenue won't amount to much until we grow a bit more, but it's an exciting step.
Wow! This is so incredible to see how a yurt is installed! We just stayed in a yurt last weekend on our way home from Vermont. Talk about a beautiful day! Thank you for showing me how to add the brackets Charles... easier than I would have imagined. The wind and snow kit may not have been complicated but still seems like a lot of work. All so fascinating to see.
We didn’t buy the snow kit, so just purchased 2x4 and brackets from HD, did not know about screwing lattice to 2x 4, seems like a good idea ! although we have not had any problems , and have been up for 5 years. I made the bug screen and use it every summer, as it makes a big deal for cooling and mosquitoes. We are on Mt Cardigan in New Hampshire
Do you live in your yurt year around? How do you heat yours, and are you able to keep it comfortable in the winter? How are you liking it after 5 yrs? Would you do it again if given a choice? Screwing the lattice to the rafter supports is more part of the wind kit than the snow. It keeps the yurt from twisting in strong winds. Not sure it is really needed here, but better safe than sorry.
Love seeing your progress each week. In my research, I was informed that in cold northern states, it is difficult to get a yurt permitted for year round living because they don't meet minimum R valves for insulation. Could you please let us know how you navigated the permitting process in Vermont? Thank you so much.
Hi Gale, for better or worse the permitting process was pretty lax in Vermont. They mainly cared about waste disposal, so once we had a state permitted septic system installed they were not picky about what we would build. Property setbacks were also needed for a zoning permit, but in the middle of a thirty acre plot, that was not an issue. We have yet to see how well the yurt performs in winter, and whether we like living there as a permanent home (backup plan is live in it while taking our time building something else and rent it out on Air BnB or something along those lines).
Well, nobody tried to stop us from putting it up here in rural Vermont (permitting is easy and they didn't care that it was a yurt). But we can't find insurance for our situation (not just the yurt, but the solar system structures) unless we build a more conventional building and start the search all over again.
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! no more sand to shovel!!! Bonne journée!
😄🎊

Beautiful! Congratulations on another milestone.
Thank you :)

That's cool you were up here. Where is home?
Looking good guys.
Thanks :)
Impressive work! Congrats on getting that done!
Thank you so much!

Awesome work!
Thanks very much!
Thanks for showing us how NOT to put a Yurt together. 🙂 Looks good though. Good job.

Thanks for watching and commenting :)
in New Hampshire some towns do not require building permits .
Was it difficult to get a permit for the yurt? Here in Colorado it is not easy in many of the counties.
