After all Xena and Gabrielle went through with Joxer over the previous 5 seasons it really impacted me when he died. He kept their legends alive while they were locked away in ice for 25 years, he cared about them when everyone else had forgotten. He kept Argo alive and then Argo's 'daughter'. He collected Gabrielle's scrolls. He searched for them until Argo died. He was a comical character with the desire to be a warrior, but he died a hero-there are worse ways to go. Ted Raimi did a great job with this character.
You're absolutely right!!!
Thanks for that breakdown. I lost track of this show and never saw this part where Joxer died. I was at a loss as to why he was so old while Xena and Gabrielle stayed youthful.
Yea, but all three of them reincarnated in the future.
I legit cried watching this scene.
Joxer had a cool attitude regardless especially for Xena and Gabriel***
Joxer the Mighty,
roams through the countryside,
never needs a place to hide,
righting wrongs, and singing songs,
being mighty all day long,
He’s Joxer, he’s Joxer the Miiiightyyy!
✊😭
Joxer the Mighty
He's very tidy
With Gabby as his sidekick
Fighting with her little stick
Plus he's good company!
Look out! He's Joxer, Joxer the Miiightyyy!!
Ted Raimi was born and raised near where I live, I hope someday to bump into him in a restaurant or something-I'll ask him to sing this song!
At first I didn't like Joxer, but the fact that he decorated his tavern to keep Xena's and Gabrielle's memory alive after so many years made me love his loyalty and I felt so sorry for him when he died
Yeah , he sacrifice his life to save the woman he love
Joxer goes out the way he wanted…a hero
You nailed it. That's what he would have wanted.
And for the woman he loved (oh come we all know Joxielle was canon even though the writers wanted to push that LGBT business with Xena and Gabrielle).
He didn't die. He enters the legend
@@deathbykonami5487 Okay….
He truly was Joxer the Mighty.
This still gets to me Joxer really was such a good person at heart
Yeah, I really like Joxer
Yes he sure was
At least he lived his life he was old when he got killed. I miss him to every time I watch the series but think if he was dead when he was younger. And let's realise that he was complete when he left he lived his life to the maximum he had so many adventures with xena he even had a son . Let's just appreciate the times he gave us
It really does… 😭 rip joxer
I didn't know he died until now. I'm totally sad. I didn't watch this season. I actually cried a little during this clip. Maybe Xena can go-to what ever heavenly plane to rescue joxter's soul and bring him back one last time?
Joxer may not have had Gabriel’s wit, or xena’s skill. But he had the heart, and that’s something to admire. There is hopefully a little Joxer in all of us.
This was one of the saddest scenes ever. Joxer was one of my favourite characters.
Joxer went out the way he always wanted to be... a Hero. "Joxer the Mighty"
Joxer the Mighty, roaming in the countryside, with Gabby as his sidekick, fighting with her little stick, righting wrongs singing songs, being mighty all day long! He's Joxer, Joxer the Mighty!!
Wasn't joxter also very tidy? Lol
didny he end up with her in the end in modern times?
Gabrielle’s reaction gets me every time! 🥺😢😓😭
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I was just a kid when this came out so it really didn’t hit me then. But watching just now made me sad. He always did his best to protect Gabrielle. At least he got to go out in a blaze of glory, like a true warrior!
This particular scene reenacts the time when Callisto attempted to kill Gabrielle but killed her newly wed husband instead. Also, Livia's facial expressions and battle tactics mimics her former self Callisto
I can finally see Gabby showing a real feelings towards him and finally saw a hero he always wanted her to see and admire. Sadly, he had to die to see she cared for him. Poor Joxer, he deserved so much better.
She always cared and showed it several times. She even said “I do love you just not in the way you wanted” in one ep.
@@Blackdragon99omfg and she showed she really cared for him when he died the first time, but came back to life
I always loved Joxer...i cried when Livia killed him. He didn't deserve to die😟😟😟😟
Remember when his son wanted to kill her?
To joxer, a noble warrior til the end, rest in peace 🍸
I was so angry at Joxer's death, it felt completely unnecessary, he was the heart of this show, hands down. I still remember watching this when it aired and being heartbroken, ugh
I felt them same way about glen and the walking dead. They way they killed him the "second" time was just to much for me to continue watching the TWD series. Part of me is glad I didn't watch this episode where joxer dies.
Joxer wasn't the greatest warrior. But when you needed him he back you up no matter what the situation was. Where joxer failed as a warrior he succeeded as a father. And he was a great friend.
I always argued that, in fact, Joxer was the most heroic character in the show. He always charged into danger to help his friends, despite the knowledge that he would likely die because of his lack of swordsmanship. To me, that makes him braver than all of them, including Xena.
@@michaelmartin8446 true and what he lacked in swordsplay he made up for in heart. He passed his good nature on to his children and taught them to do the right thing. For that Joxer should be proud. Even though that stew of his should be considered a dangerous weapon.
@@slanetroyard92 True. How many people can say that they defeated an entire army singlehandedly?
@@michaelmartin8446 not many. Still wondering what the Hell Joxer puts in his stew that makes it put down an entire army.
@@slanetroyard92 Probably better not to know.
Even years later I cry watching this scene. I disliked Joxer so much to start but by the end, he was just as much part of the show as Gabby and Xena.
Same
Joxer died in a way he initially set out to go. Fighting the good fight. He saw and did things no one else saw or did, save for those who were there with him. When his friends disappeared, he lived his life, started a business and raised a family. Was he entirely happy with how things went until Xena returned? Of course not. He still moved forward and actually inspired his kids with his tall tales. He lived a full life unlike Xena and Gabrielle. Instead of dying of old age in his business, he went out with his friends and son for one last adventure. Joxer lived and died an adventurer and as a loyal friend.
Couldn't have said it better 😊
Yeah, he went out a hero , when he sacrifice his life to save the woman he loved
Lucy's acting here is just fantastic. The silent rage in those teary eyes at 3:37 is just perfectly done. A pivotal moment of the series in the final years.
Not gonna lie but I cried so hard
Cried here so bad man.. When Eve came to her senses and relized what she did.. Man.. Xena always makes an amazing apperiance man 😂❤️🔥
To the end Joxer was a true friend and hero . Rip Joxer 🥺
Joxer was real hero.
one of the best parts of my day growing up was watching Xena and hercules😊
Ahh I knew this clip was bound to be coming and even over 20 years later still hurts :(
And they say Pixar movies are sad... Neither Joxer nor Meg deserved this ending.
Joxer was a goober, but I loved the guy. He DID NOT deseverved to be killed off. I'm glad he went down fighting. He left one helluva legacy with Virgil.
Poor Joxer, he really did bring joy to everyone even at his final moments. I missed him a lot after this. I think the producers meant to have Virgil as comic relief after Joxer's death but it didn't work out.
@Lee Brown I do remember Xena and Gabrielle pinching Virgil's nose in a comedic manner just like Joxer. I also remember that there was supposed to be a romance between Virgil and Eve.
@@Bardim18 romance between Virgil and Eve? Wouldn't have been against it, but didn't she become chaste after realizing who she really was and was the prophet of Eli? I dunno, I blocked out the rest of season 5 and all of season 6, it was truly a mess
@Lee Brown
I wondered what happened to Jett- & once or twice thought about the possibility that along with Joxer’s stories about his adventures with Xena & Gabrielle, if maybe the more capable brother had an impact on his nephew- but I don’t recall him being mentioned later...
@@PrettyWaffle Well, clearly Eve had relationships with both Augustus and Ares during her Livia days so I don't think she was completely chaste plus I don't think that Eli would mind Eve having relationships with men. Anyway, from what I've heard, there's a deleted scene from the episode "Who's Gurkhan" in which Virgil forgives Eve for killing Joxer and several other deleted scenes from season 6 which seem to build up a romance between Virgil and Eve. I could be wrong though so take what I said with a grain of salt.
Reading through the comments I never knew people disliked Joxer. I always thought of him as a goof and he always had a positive attitude.
I mainly watched the show because of Joxer
For me this never happened. Joxer the Mighty lives forever! ⚔️❤️
This broke me. I almost stop watching Xena because of his death. He did got the warriors death that he always wanted
I felt your pain, my dude 😭💔
Wow! That look … at 1:15 Livia is really channeling Callisto.
One of the hardest scenes to watch.. Joxer was so loyal to Xena & Gabrielle & he literally gave his life for them.
This hurts!!! Still does!! Forever will.
Yes, he wasn't a warrior. But he was a warrior in heart. The Mighty, indeed. For those who love are mighty.
20 years later and my eyes still water 😢
I agree with the comment below poor Joxer!!! Although I did laugh when Olivia/Eve said “Oh good Mom’s here”
Not a good move on producer's part, in my opinion. Joxer was a well-loved character. THis only made me dislike Eve/Livia even more. I never forgave her.
to me that made the show even better because wene she turned good her guilt was worse. eve is just like Zena in one way she needs to redeem herself.
Neither did i
@@susanlawless5578 joksers death was impact because he was a loved character and it symbolized moving on. i personally did like him that much but a lot of people did
I loved joxer since i first saw him in sesason 1
Sam Raimi killed off his brother
This was so heart breaking the first time I saw it. If only Joxer listened to Xena and ducked, he would still be alive. Still brave to the end.
Poor Meg.
Joxers death really broke me
Same
I've never liked Joxer but his death was quite sad.
Joxer may not be the brightest person ever; he may not have the strength of a warrior; I know he can be clumsy & a bit of a dork, but deep down, he had a kind heart & soul.
@@blueskykayzee9009 maybe. But he's also not the smartest, had he ducked the chakram would have chopped through Livia's sword and Gabrielle and Joxer would still be alive.
@@jameslyon2338 Guess you're right.
@@jameslyon2338 in combat you not always have time to think... he just wanted to save friend. Besides, he was old, and was knocked to ground.
@@bogbog4678 a prime example why he never should have been allowed to come. Even young Joxer was more of a nuisance than a help
The saddest moment in the whole Xena world.
I remember seeing the episode when I was a kid......still hits hard.
Me too he was a good man. But his legacy lives on through his children and future descendents.
@@slanetroyard92 Long live Joxer the Mighty!
@@iolaus2010Joxer the mighty!
Very sad part of poor Joxer
I was in shock and cried the first time this happened. Still cry seeing it even now. For some reason, when supporting characters die it hits a little harder than when the main character dies. Joxer was the best. Always there for Xena and Gabrielle. Always a great friend. I'm glad he got to live a full life. He deserved it. 😢❤
Anyone else really love the flip at 1.02
I always liked Joxer. It was so sad when he died.
Ted Raimi is an underrated actor.
You can't blame Livia since she was raised by the current Caesar Augustus, who raised her to be a loyal and merciless general in the Roman army.
Amazing fight scene. Poor old Joxer 😢 Very moving.
If he just got down like Xena said, he wouldn't have died.
Joxer never listened. It was part.of his charm.
This is the saddest Scenes that Joxer died like that he will always be a hero and a father and husband to forever
🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎
This was one of the most upsetting episodes for me.
Xena and Gabrielle: farewell old friend
When I was a child I cried at the death of joxer. And now after years I cried again.
I love Xena´s look at the end!
Joxer will forever be a hero and their number one side kick for sure rip joxer I’ll miss you buddy you were the best
Thank you so much for posting these. I cant get enough.
This was soo sad but the fact Joxer lived this long was sooo surprising tbh lol
hated how they treated the most pure hearted person on the show..poor joxer
Alas poor Joxer he was a good friend and a good father he may not be A Greatest Warrior but he was a loyal friend to Xena and Gabrielle they share Many Adventures to the end
"Bravery is not the absence of fear but acting despite it" no idea if this is a famous quote or not but I consider joxer and iaolos the bravest people in the herc xena world and I gotta say I'm sure he died happy helping his friends and saving his son likely put a smile on his face
Is Eve/Livia trying to channel her inner Callisto at the beginning, because something felt a "little" familiar.
Yes, they brought up a lot that she was Xena’s daughter with Callisto’s soul, and without Xena being around to raise her properly, she ended up bad
Great observation Daniel! I didn't think of that.
Poor Joxer
This scene still make me sad even after how many times I've watched it since I was a child...
He's always that Annoying third wheel but also someone they can count on...
Ge was loyal til the end...
I believe all the actors playing Xena and Gabrielle....knowing this was the last of Joxer being alive....they were GENUINELY devastated in this scene! Remember in the first episode of this season...Joxer said to Amarice..."I'm thier BEST FRIEND!" not knowing he was at their crucifixion.
I never felt like Xena cared much about Joxer's death. She barely says anything and seems too concerned with Eve or Gabrielle. I hated Eve and wanted Athena to destroy her. We lost all the good side characters(Autolycus, Ephiny, the gods) and instead got Eve.
I agree with you
She cared it was expressed in conversations she had with Ares & Gabrielle later but I agree she was willing to risk everything to save Eve even Gabrielle
I agree with you!! I was so mad at xena because she sometimes acted like she did not care about Gabrielle....just for that monster of eve.
Монстром Еву зробила эйо мать...Як говорят "Яблуко от яблуны далеко не падает"
🎶 Joxer the Mighty 🎶
Is it just me, or does the daughter have very similar mannerisms and body language to Callisto?
That was the point of her character. Yup I agree
Yeah I think they cast someone that resembled Callisto purposely because it is supposed to be her spirit reborn in Xena's child.
Yes she is Calisto though not the one that gained her soul but the evil that lived for vengeance...thereby negating the entire redemption arc...sigh.
Well, Eve is the reincarnation of Callisto. And since Livia grew up to be evil this made Callisto's redemption pretty pointless, not to mention that the whole "evil warrior woman turns good" thing is a repeat of Xena's own arc, been there done that.
Yeah there was a literal scene when Xena talks with Gabrielle at night time (right before the battle in the temple I think but after Joxer died??) Where Xena talks about how Eve has Xena's dark side and Calliso's spirit and how can she even beat those odds. Callisto's redeemed spirit also gave Xena the baby. There was an episode about how Xena didn't have a father of the baby. It was because angel Callisto touched Xena on the shoulder after Eli brought them back from being crucified & you see Xena react to the touch. We later learn in the episode where Eli dies that's when Callisto gave her the baby. Callisto was the reason Xena's son died, and Xena was the reason Callisto's parents died, so they both got to have something from eachother they both took away from eachother.
So at least she technically got redeemed after she got baptised and became the messenger of Eli I guess. Took awhile for true redemption 😥 but the "shift" to do good felt super forced lol. I wanted to see a butt kicking warrior of the light like Xena 🤣. But I guess they had to make her "slightly" different than Xena & Callisto. Eve eventually got to live the peaceful side they never did and seek redemption without a sword. I really like the story arc when you thinj about it, but I felt they could have done sooooo much more with Eve's character 😞.
lucy and xena is a beautiful woman
Wow 😯
She still had time to kill Gabrielle. They had no reason to retreat.
Joxer was brave and noble.
I I agreed
Thank you so much for the uploads
Yes, truly. I was waiting for somebody to post this scene.
xena warriors princess is so amazing
Rip Joxer
That's about as bad as killing John Wick's dog!!!
I honestly wonder what this show would be like with today’s filming techniques, wouldn’t mind a little more historical accuracy but hey it’s the 90’s 😂 still one of the joys of my childhood watching this show.
Well not TOO much historical accuracy, we still want Xena to win the fight after all hahaha
@@mxviii I agree 😂 I just learned that Emperor Augustus did in fact have a wife named Livia….though I guessing she didn’t bathe in the blood of Christians 😆
@@mordha86 Not at all, there wasnt any Christian blood to bathe in yet. But She was a super masochist haha
The blooper is the hand, when he lets go of joxers hand to close his eyes.....it’s not same hand
This was a heartbreaking moment. Tbh I always partially blamed Gabrielle. She just had to sneak off behind Xena's back AGAIN (so sick of her doing that) and it got Joxer killed. I wish Gabrielle listened for once and then Livia could have become Eve without killing Joxer. I could never appreciate her character after that
Gabrielle once again got somebody killed She didnt have to go to Livia knowing Livia was gonna use her as bait
Right?!!! I hated Gabrielle for pulling stunts like this
Yeah basically the show revolved around fixing her mishaps and Xena not being free to do anything because of her possessiveness. Quite a nuissance, this character.
How is it that Joxer aged into an old man, but Xena and Gabrielle stayed the same age? Was he cursed or something? Can someone fill in the blanks for me please?
Xena and Gabrielle were preserved in ice for 25 years by Ares.
I can't image the bloopers on this show I bet it was funny.
Gabrielle truly cared for Joxer. She just didn't see him in a sexual way. Some women are just like that. She would have probably risked her life to save him as well, but just did not see him in a sexual way. It's like a woman who is willing to donate you a vital organ to save your life, but would never sleep with you. Which one do you think is the more intimate gesture?
She loved Joxer as a dear friend but knew they weren't comparable as a couple. You can tell that even after Joxer married and had a family of his own, he still crushes on Gabrielle.
@@Elly3981 Yeah, Joxer may have moved on and had a family, but his heart still belonged to Gabrielle. Always did.
Also, I think you meant to say "compatible", not "comparable".
I felt like Eve/Livia was a resurrected, brunette Callisto
Um.....yeah that's..... literally what happened. Like cannonically in the show 😂
@@SjofnBM1989 Did not Callisto find peace with her family? I thought she went to heaven and a baby was her gift to Xena.
@@gentleheart7107 Yeah but the in "Seeds of Faith" she was reincarnated as Xena's child. Her spirit went into the baby to be reborn.
She is supposed to be Xena's child because she took away Solan and Xena was to be her mom because Xena took away her family. Eve was supposed to be the correction of past wrong-doings.
Oh, just why, why did you make me cry on this lovely day?
I cry
I hated Eve's character.... Then I hated her even more for killing Joxer. I was so hoping for Aphrodite to appear and resurrect Joxer so he and Meg can live out their days together. :(
Eve doesn't even feel remorse for her crimes. Ugh.
Doing the sound effects for this show must have been bonkers.
After I saw Eve/Livia and Varia togheter I changed my mind and they became my favourite ship ever
Few know that the person playing Joc was also the director.
No. Ted Raimi was the director's brother.
Though Ted and Sam do look similar, what the other's said is true.
Long Live Joker the Mighty
why they made Eve (who they wanted us to care about, before and after) kill one of the most beloved characters on the show is beyond me.
That yell wasn't annoying as it is now. Lol
1:45 LIVIA YOU OWE XENA, GABRIELLE AND VIRGIL AN APOLOGY FOR KILLING JOXER! LOOK HOW MUCH GRIEF YOU CAUSED THE TRIO AND APOLOGIZE! NOW!
Yes
Another thought but Joxer may have saved Gabrielle's life here. I assume Xena was aiming for Livia's sword but if she sensed it coming she could have simply moved out of the way and the Chakram would have hit Gabrielle.
I’m here because Adrienne made a tiktok about this scene 😂 🙌🏼
