    My parents got my sister and I a simple wooden push walker with the blocks. Because it was wooden and good quality, my sister and I used the walker as a toy doll pram/trolley/wheelbarrow/bed etc until we were about 10 years old. We also played with the blocks that it came with to build towers and buildings etc. The reason for this is because both the walker and the blocks that come with it, are open play/imaginative play toys. This means that the toy can be used in more than one way and allows your child to use their imagination with the toy. This also means that it grows with your child. Also note that my parents got one and we shared it. My older sister used it first and then when was about 9 months, I started to use it.
    This is just my personal opinion, but a plastic walker, or even the fancy and heavy wooden walker, does not offer as many benefits as the classic simple wooden walker.

      Hi @Grace Bolton thanks for your lovely comment. Also thanks for the tip. In the meantime try placing a wet face washer on your bub’s chest when he is in the bath (if he is not yet able to sit up). This worked wonders with my kids. I also used the reclined bath seats to ‘hold’ my bubs while I washed them. Made them feel more sturdy. Also make sure the room is warm. They hate the cold!

    Thank you very much for posting this. Hearing that walkers can delay development made me feel really guilty for letting my son use a push walker, but I'm really glad to see that push walkers aren't in the same category as regular walkers. We've got a plastic one and a wooden one, and he really loves his plastic one at the moment, but is starting to like his lighter wooden one now he's gotten more confidence.

    I came as I'm shopping for a new push toy for my 15 month old. He broke his plastic one at 13 months as he likes to ram into things and is now pushing furniture around. I've been trying to find something that won't damage the house. Playing outside as much as possible currently, he is my 4th boy and very determined. I like the wooden tray one but may need to modify the front with a pool noodle as a bumper.

      I agree with that. I advise against the use of baby walkers. They are different to the push walkers that I’m referring to in this video.

      Yesssss good idea because actually I’ve just started letting my 5 month old use these mats because his rolling from front to back and I thought it would be a good idea so he doesn’t bang his head as hard with the mat being the surface and also his starting to sit so if he falls back at least the mat won’t be as hard as the ground.

      @Mz JJ I wouldn’t be concerned. These mats are a bit softer so might require more strength to complete a roll. As your bub gets stronger he will start rolling again. Also these mats are colourful and interesting so your little one might be interested in looking at the mats for the moment.

    Interestingly the first related video on this includes push walkers in the "not recommended" categroy too, for similar reasons to other walkers - ie "leaning forward" and due to plastic ones moving quicker they may be walking on tiptoes.
    The posture thing seems to make sense, but does the fact that the child can just sit down on the floor, whereas in a "saucer" style walker it's a case of you're in that position until mum/dad get's you out make them better?

  • @aileenelizabethtrip8269

    Hmm, I thought they were meant to be encouraged to crawl for as long as possible as that is developmentally crucial? Also, I'm quite happy to let my 9 month old lad cruise the furniture... The way he's going I would not be surprised if he started running very soon after walking! He's already into everything & I don't wish to use a baby jail!

    My baby is cruising around furniture at 5.5 to 6 months and balancing herself on it for about a minute. Is it too early for her to use a push walker. She seems to want to climb on something or move around all the time! Also, independently sitting and crawling.

      Good for you, that doesn't mean that the science isn't wrong and that you should encouraging others to use them as well. It's sad how many parents aren't aware of the risks of walkers and that corporations shove things like walkers down everyones throats. The majority of new mothers would just get their baby a walker without second guessing it or knowing that it's a risk because it's so normalized and corporations want you to buy as many unnecessary things for your baby as possible. I encourage all new mothers to do the research themselves for any baby product they buy and not just do what everyone else is doing without thinking twice about it, you should be able to trust the baby products given to you but sadly that just isn't the case and just because all your friends are doing it doesn't mean it isn't harmful and a complete waste of money.

      ⚠️Emma, love your videos,was doing research to buy one, but these walkers, including push walkers turn out to be very dangerous for baby foot and posture development and really unsafe.They are even prohibited for sale in Canada.Please make another updated video educating the public on the dangers of these devices(video for references on studies done)

    You've mentioned that holding baby's hands while they walk doesn't help them but walkers do. Can you help me understand this difference?

    • @EmmaHubbard
      @EmmaHubbard  3 роки тому +3

      When you hold your little ones hand you automatically adjust your hands to compensate for then they lean too far to the side of the front/back. Therefore they are not really working on fine tuning their standing or walking balance which is required to walk independently. Hope that makes it a bit clearer.

      Hi usually the period of purple crying starts at around 2 weeks and peaks at 6-8 weeks and then gradually reduces until 3/4 months of age. Hope that helps

    What donyou think about the radio flyer push walker? Thank you for your videos they are so helpful

    • @EmmaHubbard
      @EmmaHubbard  3 роки тому

      Hi @vridiana Cordova I have found that these walkers are pretty hard for little ones to turn- they tend to only go in a straight line. If you have a large space for your little one to use it in then it would be fine. If not then the simple wooden push walker with blocks would be better and cheaper too.

    Hi I'm a mother of 2 months old daughter I want to know if swaddling important for babies as I have heard it is important to straight babies knees amd legs

    • @EmmaHubbard
      @EmmaHubbard  2 роки тому

      Hi @Benish umer swaddling isn’t a must do with a newborn. It is really your preference.
      I find swaddling helpful for dampening the startle reflex and helping a baby stay asleep.
      If you do choose to swaddle it is important that the swaddle isn’t too tight around their legs. They should be able to bend their legs up and out to the side when they are swaddled. You do not want to swaddle the child so their legs are straighten and their feet and knees come together as this increases the risk of hip dysplasia.

      Yep they do. The carpet tends to slow them down a bit in the beginning which is great when they are learning.

      These ones aren’t banned in Canada as far as I’m aware. It’s the baby walkers (where the baby stands in the centre) that are banned. Hope that helps clarify 🙂
