CONVERSATIONS AT CHR: Abnormal Embryos During IVF

- When undergoing IVF, many couples receive news, after preimplantation genetic testing, that their embryos are considered "abnormal." In this video, Dr. Barad and Dr. Gleicher discuss this process, what that means, CHR's approach to these cases, and what you should do if this happens to you. Thank you so much for this informative video. I am currently going through an IVF cycle and my clinic was putting pressure on me to test my embryos. I have learned a lot watching your videos and read up on the embryo testing and declined to get my embryos tested. I really like what was said in the video that IVF is meant to enhance chances of pregnancy not to deter miscarriages. Thank you so much!
Hi what was your results?
What is your result? Thanks!
@@sge4404 I have a healthy 1 year old. Completely genetically normal :-)
@@foziaawais5803 I have a healthy 1 year old who is completely genetically normal. I didn't do embryo testing.

This is exactly what happened to me! First round of 3 abnormal embryos were just discarded ... I have 3 more that tested abnormal that are frozen. My doctor didn’t advice to have them transfered he said the abnormalities were not ones that could turn into pregnancy. These embryos made it to blastocyst stage if they were that abnormal wouldn’t they Arrest! Wish I lived in New York!!
Hi ,did you transfer any from your frozen embryos and how did it go. I'm about to make a decision on transferring an embryo with an abnormality.
@@haulahakim6522 I did not get to. The doctors office was making it really hard for me to do it. They are still frozen. Let me know how yours goes. please good luck to you
@@haulahakim6522 can you update us on your progress. Thank you!
@@katiearnautovic7498 I ended up not transfering the abnormal embryo and currently trying natural conception.
How about 0PN day 5 grade AB blastocyst can it be transferred?
Very good video! So at what age a man should freeze his sperm to make embryo with a 40 years old lady??
the reason people opt for PGS is that they have had multiple failed cycles, the reason why the amount of babies being born with chromosome issues are staying the same are because they are being born to people who have not needed to have babies through IVF. If you are doing IVF than you are infertile so having a baby is not simple. No saying you are wrong about the embryos sometimes being viable even if they say they are not normal. What do you say to a couple like us, that had 10 egg collections, had lots of eggs My AMH is 3.76 I am 41 now, when we did IVF it was more than that, I do not have PCOS. we always had lots of embryos at day 3 but hardly any blasts, we did day 2 3 and 5 transfers, we had 10 flat out BFN cycles, all up we did 17 transfers 6 where loses one of which was twins, our last was a PGS tested embryo he was transfer 17 he stuck and is 2 and a half. In saying that I lost both tested and untested embryos, I had 4 tested post D&C 3 where normal chromosomes one was a issue with chromosome 9 mosaic issue, male embryo at 7 weeks. So what do you do in cases like ours, is testing not at least a some sort of help.
@@misschocoholic82 because the are most likely very high rate of mosaic embryos so most of the issues are inside the cells that make the placenta, some embryos make it and we have little ones with chromosome differences but most chromosome issues do not end up in a live birth, so if you have complex chromosome issues inside your embryos PGS is the only way to deal with this. Also people who carry a translocation of there chromosomes need this tests, this test is changing all the time there is a way to test the culture medium now that does not even need to touch the embryos themselves, so this is a huge leap forward, the testing is going to keep getting better.
@@misschocoholic82 I understand that we only ever got at max 3 to blast do we banked embryos to test because I had no idea what else to do because we had had so so many failed transfers, so testing was just an other step to take, PGT seems to be the best way these days as it does not disturb the embryos it tests the culture media not the embryo, I just think there is a place for testing and it should not be ruled out all of the time, it can help.
