OMG! I looked at, at least a dozen other 'solutions' and this was by far the simplest and BEST explanation. Kudos and great job on making it so clear and easy to understand!!!
Totally agree with Roger Vincent, this is the simplest and quickest solution - so easy to follow after watching some other confusing longer videos and getting no where. My graphs are now custom sorted and so easy to do in the future - thanks so much BI Elite !
This was SO helpful - I don't think I would have ever figured this out on my own. Thank you!
No problem, Chrissy!
Thank you so much! It took me forever to find a video for sorting the order of the columns rather than the content of the columns. Very easy to follow video!
Thank you!! Short and to the point without pointless talking or introductions
Haha that's what I'm going for ;)
I admire the creativity and simplicity of your method. Thanks for sharing!!!
Best tutorial I have found regarding this issue to date! Excellent.
Thanks Alexis! This is such a necessary topic to understand in Power BI.
I have been trying to figure out how to do this for a couple hours. Thank you for this quick and easy solution!
Did not know what the Tooltips well was for until watching this video. You educated me on Tooltips and solved my sorting problem at the same time. Thanks a ton!
Thanks! I've realized how creating these little dimension tables really help work around little things like this😀
U r a life saver, your videos are always showcasing intricate and useful skills...thank you
Great video. Watched a handful of other ones which were super confusing. Thank you!
One of the most helpful videos I've seen regarding Power BI. Well done.
Really glad to hear that, Ryan. This is simple yet very powerful.
Thank you! This is exactly what I am looking for! I wish PowerBI can add this feature to allow users move around these headers/Columns, it should be really simple!!
Awesome stuff! Very rarely does a Power BI video actually get straight to the point without wasting people's time 😂😂
BEST POWERBI UA-cam CHANNEL, PLEASE BE MORE ACTIVE
100% exactly what I was looking for. Thanks a million!
Great video. I was doing this the hard way by importing the sort column.
You earn my subscription! So well-explained!
Putting it in the Tooltips and sorting ascending worked for me. Phew!
Thank you. This is exactly what I was looking for! Such a simple solution.
Thank you very much. This was very helpful and exactly what I needed.
Thanks was banging my head trying to get this done!!!
This is great. thank you. How would one do this for 3 different columns that need custom sorting? I am stuck at the MANAGE RELATIONSHIP bit
Thanks dood, this was so easy. Every online resource makes BI seem like you have to be a programmer to get this far lol.
Why the hell does everything in Power BI have to be so awkward? Especially when it's so simple in Excel? Almost as user-unfriendly as Word.
I just came here 1 year after you made this comment i am learning power bi this was what came to my mind. Sorting stuff is meant to be easy except these youtube guys just made it look difficult
thanks
Thank you!!! Straight to the point and accurate!
extremely helpful and fast solution congrats!!!!
Thanks for awesome trick, could I also apply this to donut chart?
Yes! Every visual will respect the custom sort order.
Thank you
Thanks, clear explanation. However, to prevent uncontrolled growth and complexity of tables, I would advise to merge the two tables!
Woooowwwww. I cant believe i found this!! Thanks!
Thank you - clear, to the point, short and it WORKS!
Very helpful for me. Finally I got a solution.
Thank you thank you sooooo much, sorting was immediate requiifrom my manager for one project, you saved me
Nice video, I am working on a dashboard that is live connected to a dataset, so the data view is not available 😔
Ty so much!!
This was super helpful. Thank you so much.
Genius, simple and clear.
You are a God among men. Thank you, sir.
Thank you so much!!! Worked very well for me

Thank you so much! Super helpful for sorting a calendar table
Glad you found this useful, Edward!
This worked like a charm. Thank you so much.
Outstanding.. This was great and easy to follow along
Thanks, this is very helpful. I managed to sort the category now but not for the slicer, it doesn't work
this was extremely helpful, thank you
Thanks for the content! Any idea to apply It to a pívot table?
Really thank you! I just don't get it why you need a second table to achieve that. Why can't I just add a new order column to my initial table and sort by that values. So annyoing.
Thank you! I have a picky client and I'm a basic Power BI user, so this saved me! :P
Thank you so much, the exact simple and understandable solution.
Thank you so much, easy and clear!!!
Thanks, you solved a problem that wa doing my head in!
Haha glad to hear, David!
THANKS PARKER! You helped me alot at my work!!
This was extremely helpful, thank-you!!!
Nice solution. Thank you.
The Modeling tab disappears when I click on Table view
Great! Very useful and nicely explained....Thx
Thanks really helped a lot.
Thanks a lot! quick to get to the solution!!!
Thanks a bunch mate. Got this really quickly thanks to your video 👌
Hey James, that’s great to hear!
Thank you, simple and clear explanation.
This has been driving me mad. I had the sort order table & column and had set the sort order in the table, but was missing the Tool Tips bit. Thank you!
Hi, I tried this with a matrix, and it did not work as expected. For charts it's ok, do you know if there is another way?
Very straight forward trip, Thanks very much appreciated
Thanks for that great video. Do you know how to apply a colour conditional formatting to the chart.
You can create a dax and input it in the conditional formating visual setting of chart with three dots
thank you! easy and super quick.
When i click on my column to bring up "Modeling", Modeling does not even come up as an option to click on. Nor a "Sort By' option.
There is a Column tools instead of modeling with the same option
Thank you! you helped me a lot :)
Very useful. Thanks.
This is great! Thank you so much
You’re awesome - most clear way to do this
Thank you
I view this video all the time because doing this is always simple and not so easy at the same time. But CAN YOU MAKE A 2023 VERSION PLEASE ? PBI has changed so much and it’s hard to do this trick with the current version.
solved my problem! thanks
Hi Parker, will this technique work when I desire to sort ROWS of data in a chart? I have a data set which lists names in a certain order (non alphabetical). When I create a visualization, the rows are scrambled. Thanks in advance for your help! Mark
Thank you! This worked.
Great Video, great solution, thank you
saved my life
Thanks for the tutorial, I have achieved what I was intended to do. However, when I display the value on each bar, it shows 0 for bars that have no value. Is there a way to not display " 0"? Can anyone assist, please? Thanks.
Awesome!!!! Subscribed!!!!
Welcome aboard, Oscar!
if I have several equal columns, do I have to create a table for each one?
Nope, you can sort them by the same column that you created once (if I understand your situation correctly).
What if the relationship doesn’t automatically happen? For example my use case has multiple fields that are rated High, Medium, Low.
Great video! :-)
I'm curious, is there a way to sort numerous different graphs using just one table?
Imagine you have a survey with five different questions where the possible answers are the for every question, for instance: "never", "rarely", "sometimes", "often", "always". Is there a way to sort all these five questions from never to always using just one table as you did in the video?
Your help is much appreciated, thanks!
you rock dude, too me half a day to find you ^^
Glad you did :)
Hi
I am looking for a way out to sort dynamically every column of clustered column chart by its value with in the cluster like all the way high to low and each column in cluster should display high to low value by sorting. Please let me know on this
Thanks......
Hi Parker! Can I do this while in live connection? I am using my company's live cube and I cannot click Enter data :/
thank you so much, easy.
I've attempted this method but the cannot access data view to sort as I'm getting the error "This table cannot be shown because it is not in import mode". My main table is direct query to SQL server. Any work arounds?
How to add a new row to already created table in SortOrder?
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Excellent. Thanks.
Thanks Bart!
Great simple video, most helpful, thanks :-)
Thanks for watching, Richard!
Thanks, but why is not working with all data in my column?
Excellent, Thank you :)
No problem!
@@BIElite I am facing a challenge with filtering data across tables even though the relationship is set. It has Many to Many cardinality. Are there any videos on that topic?
this is great and easy step
Thank you very much!
Thank you!
