    I have used Cloudlifters for years with my EV RE20. I love them!

    I use this with my sm7 and it works so well to reduce preamp hiss that I now use it on many mics and with other devices like the zoom H series recorders.

    Cool video Pete. As a novice UA-cam creator who has always struggled with making the videos sound good, I dig it when the people who do it well give us a little peek behind the scenes

    Cloudlifter and the like are not scammers like one person said on here on Pete’s channel. The two people I learn from have lots of experience and have had some higher end clients. They make a living at it. One of them uses mic activators. He has a good head on his shoulders. Peter did us a service by doing this video. You use a Cloudlifter or Soyuz launcher, or Radial, or whatever and you will plug it in and forget about it and be happy with the sound of your SM57, etc. ✌️

      Thing is if you pump a dynamic into a preamp and that pream has eq on it (like the Daking MicPreEq) and you scoop out freq range by rollilng off the lows, scooping the mids and low passing etc...you're left with a much weaker signal potentially going to a compressor. If you like to compress going in like I do with acoustic guitar...then even the lowest threshold on your comp will not work for the signal since you eq'd at the preamp stage. This is when a cloudlifter makes good sense to me.

    Went right ahead and bought one. The pre amp hiss when having to crank up the pre for my SM7 was annoying, so this video sealed the deal!

    I've used something similar with my SM7B. It's definitely a must have device! I had a look at Cloud's page and the CLZ looks really cool to add some character. Great vid! 😁👍

    I think Cloudlifter is the defacto standard for SM7B since the Cloudlifter was released. I tried other similar options but the Cloudlifter was way more clean (in a good way).
    But great that they who doesn't know be aware 😊

    I almost bought one of these, but decided on a DBX 286 mic pre instead.

    Now that I think about it, it would be interesting to use it together with a di box for the bass. It would give a clean and interesting boost before entering the preamp

      Check out the Cloudlifter Zi - it's a mic activator as described in Pete's video AND active instrument DI in one box. We make an entire line for different applications.

    Damn.
    That's a nothot mic!

    Not many people realize that the sm7 and the sm58 have the same capsule, so the Cloud Lifter is just another tool in the toolbox to extend the usefulness of your mic locker.
    Not everyone has 16 or more “gold” channels so the CL can come in handy to lower the sound floor with the dynamics you have on hand without breaking the bank.
    Lots of attitude from people who seem to have no real world experience. Run what you brung, it’s about the performance not the gear.

      I'd beware of knock-offs. Cloud has patents on the circuit (printed on the box) and many of the other "boosters" are full of capacitors and such that degrade the signal. You get what you pay for.

    I find these cloud lifter things odd. It's a preamp into another preamp. I've never had an issue recording SM7s and other dynamics just using quality pre-amps. If you're having to crank the gain, there's an imbalance in what the preamp is feeding the audio interface. I use RME and have plenty of gain from my Daking pres and have to turn down the gain when using an SM7... weird.

    • @BluesSky
      @BluesSky 6 місяців тому +1

      Daking-$2k, Cloud Lifter- $150
      What’s hard to understand about that?

    • @PeteThorn
      @PeteThorn  6 місяців тому +3

      Yeah, as the other commentor stated, if you've got terrific low noise microphone preamplifiers, then you're probably set already- and if you're cutting vocals with an SM7, which means you're generally right up on the mic and louder.... but if you're using it for podcasting or voiceover or live streaming, it's a different story and the $150 price tag is a no-brainer. Keep in mind the target audience is folks that might have a presonus or focusrite interface, and are using the internal preamps... and I like to keep my BAE and API ores reserved for my guitar mic setup, which is why I'm using the DBX pre with the SM7, and I'm noticing, as you can hear in the video that with the cloud lifter, it sounds clearer/lower noise/better than when using the DBX alone.

    Why are you promoting these scammers? Get a decent interface, you dont need this crap. Edit - f it, unsub.

    • @Fl4ppers
      @Fl4ppers 6 місяців тому +1

      Yes and no. These boxes are colouration boxes, not clean gain in reality (even this one). Podcastage did a video showing this one lowering the noise floor of a mic signal - important when running lots of channels in mixdown!

    • @mycosys
      @mycosys 6 місяців тому +1

      @@Fl4ppers They have done a bunch of misleading marketing, and u will get less noise in most cases in 24 bit by adding gain Digitally. (objectively bad old interfaces like his gen2 scarelett aside - just about anything new isnt that bad)

    • @ElmarSprong
      @ElmarSprong 6 місяців тому +2

      @@Fl4ppers They definitely boost level, but the Cloud Lifter doesn't really color the sound. Jim Lill did a lot of microphone tests, including the SM7 and a cloudlifter.
      ua-cam.com/video/4Bma2TE-x6M/v-deo.htmlsi=xHQttBT9QvjFynmW&t=1164
      It did nothing to the EQ, only a level boost.

    • @NuclearDeathWalk
      @NuclearDeathWalk 6 місяців тому +1

      @mycosys I am of the same opinion, I feed SM7s into Daking pres into RME and often turn down the gain.
