Appreciate you putting this on here. My question is should the idler pulley be touching the main drive wheel I have a new belt and it is the factory size belt. I noticed yours was about touching also wondering if this is normal. Thanks
It should be close....but not touch. If it touches it means the belt is too long or has stretched. I have not had the Gates belt do that. I have had several others do that after a short period of time. I have gone through more belt money than I paid for the mower used. I definitely recommend the Gates belt mentioned in the video. I have broken them....but never had a length or stretch issue. I have tried several others and was disappointed every time. I have even used actual "Woods" branded belts as well. Keep in mind as the belt "wears", it rides lower in the pulleys which overall makes the belt effectively "longer". Some of the other belts I don't think are the size they are supposed to be. A 1/2 belt can work on 5/8 pulleys..... it's just "pre-worn out". I think a lot of the belts are really 1/2.....not 5/8.....or maybe 9/16.
It is in their "CountyLine" packaging and just says "Finish mower belt" back in the tractor section with the PTO shafts and such....is nowhere near the other belts. SKU is 211909199. You can read the number through the packaging is all coiled up and hanging on a peg.
Good info, good video. Thanks.
This method worked well. Thanks for the video!
Thanks! First feedback I have received!

You must be working on a "DASH 3", model mower. My Woods RM59 (NO DASH#) uses a 182" belt and has a threaded bolt type tensioner.
Thank you
I wish I could have seen the diagram how the belt went on because my Shields are missing on mine
