I am new to crochet and love your work....i am trying this but i am stuck by the arm holes because my fondation chain was 126 and now i have 27 shells...an odd number. Should i start over?....or can i still work it?

You don’t have to start all over. 27 divided by 2 is 13.5 right, so make sure front panel and back panel are both 13 shell … now there will be one shell left, divide that remaining shell into two, add half to front panel and half to the back panel… so in the end yours wouldn’t be two shells for both arm holes but rather just a thin space. Work with that and it will be just fine.

If you have an odd number for instance 41shells, divide it into 2, that will be 20.5. Make sure both front and back panels have 20 shells. Now you will have one more shell, divide that also into two and add half to the front panel and half to the back panel. Work with that and it will look just fine.

You mean small crochet hook? Yes you can use a smaller hook but you might need more rows and the shells might look a bit smaller than mine.
