- The challenge of re-inventing this exhibition model railway layout saw a transformation in its era too, from the end of steam to an imaginary BR blue diesel scenario.

Great layout, and a nice change to see trains running at a more realistic speed...
Always nice when a layout gets a second lease of life.
As a GC enthusiast I always enjoy spending time at exhibitions watching this layout operate and thoroughly enjoy the fiction of it surviving beyond the cuts of the 60s.
It is my ambition to one day recreate the viaduct that lead into Charwelton and the troughs as part of a garden railway.
Amazing
Drove over that bridge in the late 70's just before it was demolished. Lived near there until recently. This would have been our local station.
The style of the station makes me think of Denton and reddish south great layout 👍
It's an impressive layout.
Superb, hope to see it in the flesh someday when exhibitions are back.
Serious modelling skills here..
I see there is an n-gauge GCR layout on UA-cam, also with the classic island platform. Both beautifully modelled but I feel regret that the originals have been demolished. Doh!
Excellent layout, thanks for the entertaing video.
would like to of seen a full length shot to show whole layout...heads up for next time...lovely layout
Great looking layout
Lovely layout and beautifully filmed as always. Video was ruined in my opinion by the indiscreet watermarking of the advertiser all the way through, distracting the eye from enjoying the layout. Most UA-cam channels mention the video sponsor at the beginning or end, not all the way through. Please reconsider.
A small mention for the Dalmatian poochie.
What a great model, in real life the station closed to passengers on 4th March 1963 and the route itself on the 5th September 1966 freight ended in June 1965 and actually made a profit for BR but not the passenger trains, at the beginning of the video it
was said Beeching had closed the line, it was actually Barbara Castle the minister of transport for the Labour party that gave the order for closure although closure was recommended in the Breeching report, I would love to see a model of Woodford Halse station and it's two huge marshalling yards and engine sheds that was the next station south from Charwelton, does anybody know if a model exists, thank you for posting.
Gorgeous layout!! Where about is the prototype?
It was on the GCML but sadly the site no longer exists
Great video.diesel dave's
God,I love this.Only in my dreams...one day I will recreate Mold to Denbigh. Pure rail porn...many thanks 😊
Need some graffiti on those Freightliner's 👌
The layout is now DCC !!!! As DCC was invented by an "High Street" Electrical Engineer NOT a Railway Engineer, he was totally oblivious to the most important feature of operation by any mainline railway. i.e The working interface between moving trains and the signalling system, for which DCC makes NO PROVISION. Indeed DCC as it stands is suitable for toy train sets at home, where real life railway rules are unknown. But when it gets added to an exhibition layout, this reveals these people are ignorant and know nothing about electrical methods or the real railways operational rules and systems !!
Indeed as DCC is roughly 400% more than any Analogue system, of which there are dozens of electrical options, it's pure idiocy to splash out for DCC which locks you into an unrealistic and inflexible method of operation. But then as most modellers today seem totally ignorant of signalling methods, or even where to put signals on layouts, its my impression that railway modelling has become simply a case of "buy it ready made in a packet and stick it on the baseboard". This is highly akin to "Painting by numbers" and aimed at the ignorant masses to extract more money out of you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's an impressive layout.
