I love Pep but this isn’t a terrible take. Since a completely different system with Sane and Sterling and to a lesser extent Mahrez, our wingers haven’t been contributing nearly enough. And the drop off is huge too
Great result... but above all a great team victory... I agree with Pep... I think his words in the post press conference are worth listening to... our performance was not good... we are not yet in top form at the back... it is clear we could have done much better... we conceded too much to West Ham... I am talking about the shots conceded... a bit too many in my opinion... 17 in total... and above all our real problem... and I am talking in general... about the seasonal trend... it is mainly due to the choices in the defensive phase... which at times have cost us dearly in the result... but this is due to the fact... that we have a generally short squad (in general in all departments of the field)... with many who easily fall back into injury... but that is another story... the important thing is that we have returned to victory... two in a row... with Savio who is starting to shine... with Haaland's brace... and Foden's return to goal and the presence of KDB... the rest will improve as time goes by... let's keep going like this... Come on CITEH 🩵🦈💪👊🔥
What went well: 1. We sustain our attacking threat by finding the free space. You press us high? the space is behind your back four. You press high with a low or medium defensive line? We find Foden (and now also Savinho) in the pockets in front of your back line. You sit deep? We squezze you while conceeding less and less counters. 2. Our physical condition. Usually we drop physically after 30 min. Here we were able to bounce back after our physical drops during the game. Even after our big drop from min 60-65, we were able to go again and create chances. It didnt happen for a long time during our physical lows. 3. The front pressing: excellent and continuous until min 65. Opponents started to give us goals away, like we gave to the whole EPL during the last 60 days. Now they make mistakes coz the fear our pressing. The fear factor has changed its side. 4. Quick replacements. Pep is now more conscious and humble about our bad physical condition. He reacts quicker and brings legs when we drop. Let's not forget that draws in our situation are good results. If we drew 7 games in the 10 losses we would be still in the title race. 5. The unbeatean run. I dont believe we can sustain like a 7-games winning streak currently. But our level is definitely sufficient for a 10- games unbeaten run. Currently we are at 3, and i dont really see teams beating us in the very near future.
It’s because Bernardo and Kovacic aren’t DM’s so don’t have the natural instinct to cover behind them, they commit to duels instead which usually means they create that gap by pressing the man on the ball and get passed around, or through
People bashing Doku, if you ever played football, you know how much courage is required to take people on, or you can ask Grealish that who is scared most of the time and do back passes.
Exactly what I’ve said about Kovacic!! Why does he insist on committing to duels but giving 0 fucks about the defence he’s supposed to be protecting?! He needs to let every other player in the attack and midfield commit to those duels, then make sure he’s the ready to slow down the attack if they break through but doesn’t have the defensive instinct. New DM is absolute vital. Savinho was brilliant, Rico looked much better too. Long way to go but three points are nice
I don’t think kovacic is playing well at the moment. I’m not convinced he knows how to play that role as a 6. There are many weak links in the squad atm akanji, gvardiol, kovacic. Foden played well today, his best performance in a while. Kdb is getting back to form slowly. I’m just glad we are winning again tbh
Kovacic lost the ball a few Times in key areas forcing us into defensive transitions and that worries me man . We Need two Big men in the pivot position
He definitely wasn't brought in to play as a 6. He's the best we have; there must be a reason when we moved off of Philips that we didn't bring in another DM to backup Rodri. They obviously wanted to wait until next summer when things were more clear with charges and other players potentially leaving.
It’s the same every game with Kovacic. Forgets he has a defence to protect and rushes into duels. Douglas Luiz loan would be a good start, at least he’s athletic enough to compete in duels
My Man City top 5 of the game,: 1. Savinho (dribbles "wide" more and more in his 1v1 duels - as opposed to going inside all the time - and it works) 2. Haaland ( keeps on moving well and it pays off, more intelligent positioning now during our front pressing phases) 3. Bernardo (the one hiding how much of a hole is our defensive midfield currently, essential currently in central midfield) 4. Akanji (excellent game today, at least until our midfield fall apart from min 65 to min 88) 5. Foden (good work on and off the ball, consistent good performer)
What went wrong: 1.Gundogan and Walker, defensively. Off the ball, Gundogan is an absolute hole in our central midfield for his lack of aggressivity on the opponent and his wrong positioning. Walker suffers from a big lack of confidence. 2. We dont use the tactical foul enough to cut opponents counter attacks. Here by the way, the one from Kovacic was bad. A good tactical foul stops the game but doesnt trigger any yellow card (at least before min 60). 3. I still dont see fouls on the opponent when we press high in their first 3rd. It is essential to fuel the fear factor in opponents head. As we saw today, we can easily earn one goal per game minimum from that. Dont forget we gave nearly one goal per game to the opponents from that recently, so the 1 goal per game target is totally realistic. 4. Our physical condition. It is better, but still far from being fully competitive. Dears physios, you are back to an acceptable level, but there is still work to do.
This is nonsensical. Even if we sign Khusanov (assuming you mean him), he’d be used as a rotation player at best until the summer clear out. Priority is DM
Defensive shambles by gvardiol , akanji and kovasic .... these are 3 who have to be replaced in the summer and have you seen a worse team from corners other than city what the hell do they practice in training .....
You could have easily picked three worse players. Why would you replace Gvardiol? Kovatic isn't a defensive mid but is a very useful player. Akanji is having a bad season.
Happy New Year to all... let's hope that this month of January gives our City... the right continuity of results... and some moves on the market to strengthen and rejuvenate the team... if we bring in some new talented faces... who are hungry for victories... it would give the group an extra edge... for the rest... Come on CITEH 🩵🦈💪👊🔥
3 wins in15 games played with 29 goals conceded is NOT a winning formula and unless Pep starts adapting his system - which has been an abject failure - at least defensively, I don’t see how we achieve top 4 which is very worrisome. Even with the 2 back to back games we won, which is great, the defensive structural problems have not abated. If we played like that vs top 10 teams, we’re dropping points with those performances. Top 10 teams are not missing all the big chances we’ve given away. The fact that 2:3 of the worst teams in the PL, WH and LC, were cutting our defense to pieces at will and Pep has done nothing about it is not only frustrating, it will guarantee we don’t make top 4. The only reason we won those 2 games is bc we had luck on our side in the form of the opposition teams didn’t have clinical enough scorers to finish chances and not bc of some systematic brilliance on Pep’s part. As long as Pep persists with this, the next team we play who are decent (let alone good), we will drop points and the excellent confidence gained by these 2 wins will fade. I’m praying that I’m wrong, but all the same structural problems with the defense persist. At least things have improved in the attack with Savinho s brilliance on the left and I hope it continues, but a lot of that will depend on Pep allowing to play on the left where he shines instead of forcing him in an area he’s shown he doesn’t, on the right
You say this like this isn’t the nature of our high risk football. I think you’ve been spoiled, we all have. We ought to play a bit more traditional now, but once the rebuild is finished please don’t doubt Pep’s madness when he is given quality and sublime tools.
@@JCM718 Agree. And I love that the confidence is growing via the 2 wins (very happy for Savinho), but once we play teams who are decent or better than decent, we keep making those defensive errors (many forced, some not, but we’ve been doing it all year), and we’re dropping points = killing the newly found confidence and then we’re right back in the gutter again. Perhaps I’m being too negative, but it simply makes no sense to play recklessly risky defensive system when we have virtually no midfield and the defense is exposed in nearly every transition. How does that even make sense?
@@Peraltyssyma Name 1 game this season where Pep did not play a ridiculously high defensive backline with 3 while inverting 1. You can’t bc he hasn’t done it all. He’s thrown nothing at the defensive problems structurally. Sure, he’s changed virtually every person in position, but it’s failed and yet he continues with it. That is a major problem
Savinho absolute masterclass, most obvious superstar. If u sold ur stocks stay on THAT side
Wat
Savinho on the left is something else. That’s his true position. I hope Guardiola stops experimenting by playing him on the right.
Savinho needs the mahrez glove to transform into winter mahrez mode
Get in! Savinho channeling Riyad with a winter spurt of incredible form. CMON CITY
Amazing how so many ppl were ready to sell Savinho 3 weeks ago. Ppl so blind. Great potential.
Doku was more decisive when he first arrived. Pep obviously started tinkering with his game. Now Doku is as indecisive as Grealish
Doku was a headless chicken when he came but he is nothing like grealish doku still takes players on his final ball is just horrible
@kenpachi10goat Nope, more decisive than he is now

I 4:1 enjoyed that
Refreshing great to see 4 goals Let's keep going forward Ederson just watch as west Ham scored what is new ?
What more can he do when he’s not in the squad? 😂
Still criticised him let be honest we need to replace him anyway I just see him when I look at goal Ha
we won but we are still playing like sh1t, the defence is still horrendous. Against a better opposition it won't be this easy.

THAT GAP BUGS ME TOO! IT IS THERE ATTACKING AND DEFENDING! I HAVE A FEELING THAT IS A GAP RODRI WOULD NORMALLY FILL.

I didn’t get why pep doesn’t do 1 to 1 tactical training with kovacic and Bernardo of how to cover that position
SAVINHO, HAALAND, BOBB
Thought you were going to say Tricky Ricky Holden instead of Giggs, Steven 😉

Well done City. Keep going. ⚽️🥅
Savinho was balling🔥🔥🔥
Still not our best performance
But just happy to take the win!
We need to keep this run going to make a challenge for Top 4

If we can get marmoush n ederson to add steel we are good n get a centre back
Why cant wexplayxwith a,sweeper just to give it a go. It would stop lots of our defensive mistakes

Grealish needs to learn from them both on how to even create an attack in the first place
