Nice informative video. I have grown a Passion fruit climber in front of my house in Heritage city of Mysuru, Karnataka, India and in 3 years of tending, it has grown upto 50 feet and has reached our terrace. So far it has given about 300 fruits and still growing bunches of them. Since the fruit has nutritious value, I have been giving these fruits to slum area schools where juice is prepared and consumed by poor children who are under-nourished. I have also prepared seedlings and when they sprout in about 2 months and develop tendrils and ready to climb, I plant them in public parks and distribute to people who would like to take care of this wonderful value added passion fruit. I have almost become passionate about propagating this fruit.

I've grown passion fruit in Hawaii for 6 years along with papayas kale etc. and never bothered to learn much about them. I bought starts at the farmers market for 5 dollars .(red or yellow pretty equal qualities here.) I planted one on a dead lime tree and soon it looked like a green mound before the tree fell over. I never even thought of eating one that looked green still. I waited until they were purple or yellow. Green smoothies with banana and passion fruit were good. I have learned so much from your video , and your love of the plant and fruit really comes out. Great video for showing just how easy it is to build a trellis and it how will be so cool to have a beautiful green leafy shady canopy. thanks for your work.
I really recommend doubling up on the nylon ties, or even using galvanized wire instead. Nylon ties are no secure enough even though very strong at the beginning. They can crack use to cold, sun, age. Be careful out there, vinyl coated rebar is heavy, and it is overhead.
I was thinking about growing a trellis of passion fruit over my small deep pond. Now I'm not, since watching this video😅....but I'll grow one somewhere else...for sure!
I had a super vigorous vine that was growing a tad out of control so I gave it a severe pruning in late fall/early winter and the next thing I know it was dead. Very good advice!
Beautiful garden and great video. I finally bought a passion fruit vine after thinking about it for years, wish I would have planted one when I first thought about it! Every garden needs passion.
I found your video by accident and I have never been so exited to watch an almost 40 minutes video on UA-cam. Seen your garden with the banana trees, avocado trees and the passion fruit vines made me homesick. I grew up in Puerto Rico where is normal to grow those plants in our backyards. I bought on Amazon 4 baby pasion plants of your variety, which for my surprise arrived very healthy, and just recently I repotted them into bigger pots and placed them outside. The reason for the pots is because I want to be able to bring them inside when the winter comes. I live in north Texas now and I read the plants could die when the temperature drops. Any tips for growing them in pots? In your experience, will they die in the winter if I transplant them in the ground? In the winter is normal in here to get temperatures below freezing and couple of days, below 0. Thank you so much for your video, it has been very helpful. I'll be subscribing. Keep the good work.
I am Sooooo glad I found this video again !!.. I live in southwestern Ontario Canada. I purchased a beautiful flower at my local greenhouse last spring, not really knowing Anything about passion flowers ~ other than it was one of the most different & amazing flowers I had ever seen. This poor plant grew in the shade on my deck all summer. I think it was almost Halloween when I found this video the 1st time.. couldn't help what I'd done last summer, but gave me hope for this year. So, I took my poor plant inside, kept it on my only room with an east window for the winter. It did drop all its leaves, slowly... possibly because I didn't water it enough. But I couldn't remember what you had said about when to cut it back (& couldn't find your video forever, lol.. but now I am subscribed. :) So I left it alone. Amazingly, this spring, it started throwing out new growth !! Unfortunately, I am slow to get things accomplished, and we are reinventing our garden this year. I only figured out where I was going to try growing my plant this year & Finally, July 8th this poor, still very behind but alive plant made it out to the garden & actual full sunlight.. & then we had had a good rain every day since !!.. 😊 I can hardly wait to see it take off with fresh growth. And I plan to try getting some cuttings. I'm sorta hoping that moving it outside so late will help keep it's crazy amount of predicted growth a little stunted, because I need to take this plant back inside, possibly by mid Sept. We can get frost that early ~ it could also be mid Oct or early Nov sometimes too. I'll have to update my 2023 season late this year. But I'm looking forward to maybe some fruit this year.. but, I Definitely will enjoy seeing the flowers. And I would agree that eating them does help my pain to a degree.. so, I'm looking forward to finding out more about this amazing plant with a most outrageous flower.. 😊😊
I ‘ve had my Purple PF vine for three years. It has only produce three or four flowers and no fruit during that time. It was a cutting from a friend’s prolific vine. I have fertilized, buried banana skins, added epsom salts and watered lightly almost daily. I live in Los Angeles. Why no fruit?
My passion vine here in Sacramento is LOADED with fruit which started to appear in early May! I got a foot tall seedling 3 years ago and this is the first year I've had flowers and fruit 😍. I guess theyll ripen in August?
Hi @SUSANCHAM I LIVE NEAR Sacramento as well and just got a passion fruit plant. Did you plant yours in full sun? I am afraid our Sac sun and beat might be too much. Thanks and co grats on your passion fruit tree.
Just ordered a passion fruit plant online...then remembered, oh 💩! I gotta figure out where to plant and trellis it! I like this pole structure idea, looks very simple and effective. Thanks!
Thank you learn so much. I finally had my 1st passion fruit. Sent to me from Puerto Rico. They were amazing. Ok question. I took some seeds and just planted 1. In the house. Will it grow indoors?? For now. Don't have a yard I have a porch. Till the spring?
I love your garden. I am so happy to see that this plant grows that much and can produce that much Passion fruits. love Passion Fruits. I happened to pick up one plant this summer. I didn’t know that it is a fruit plant. By watching videos, I realized that I do have one. The plant has grown and it’s spreading to the top of the tarsal. The plant it has flowers, but it doesn’t grow fruits. I would like to learn how to make the plant to produce fruits. Please help. Thanks
Such an awesome passionfruit vine! I hope mine look that beautiful eventually! Arizona sun is pretty intense. I’ve been experimenting with different products trying to find ways to protect the leaves.
First, what are you using to fertilize it? I'm amazed at how productive your passion fruit vine is! Secondly, whatever purple variety I have the roots are incredibly invasive. Never again will I have it growing in one of my 8'x 4' square foot garden beds. The roots not only took over most of the bed, it was also the worst root knot nematode infection I've ever seen. I read that you should graft the variety onto the yellow variety, which is nematode resistant. So that's what I did. But it's not nearly as productive as yours. BTW, thank you for the Florida nursery reference. I see they have a couple of different yellow varieties, which is interesting since I had such a difficult time finding seeds. Also, I may need to get your IV 3 in 1 mix. Since pruning my passion fruit vine way back the summer sun scorched the trunk.
Hello David, (1) Any organic fertilizers, granular and liquid, fed lightly on average 1x per month through the growing season. Passion fruit are more prone to chemical fertilizer burn that most plants, and it wont be organic if using chemical methods. Also, I have not noticed my passion fruit variety to ever have an invasive system. On average the plants roots grow in an area about 2-3 feet from the plant and can be easily uprooted without tools... even after 5+ years of growth with one or two hands. (2) Regarding seeds, I would recommend starting with proven to perform cuttings for productive parent plants to ensure that you get exactly what you are seeking. Seeds, just like human children, differ somewhat from the parent. Seeds could produce less than desirable taste, yields, quality, etc.... My worst experience with passion fruit is loss due to early winter pruning, rather than waiting until early spring, AND loss due to over feeding/ disrupting the shallow roots. Therefore I am very careful not to disrupt the shallow roots ever. Lastly, with average life of passion fruit being 7 years, I have lost some plants in as little as 2-3 years... So propagation by way of cloning (cuttings or airlayering or grafting) should be practiced every year to preserve the genetics of your desirable selections. Keep me posted on your passion growing successes! Charles :-)
he charles, another great video, very infomative. i bought another fuente and bacon alvacado, and a papaya tree, today from homedepot. i put them in shade, added some c-90, and organic plant food. just wanted to say thank you. i must continue watching the rest of your video. much love and god,s peace be with you also i meant to mention that last year i bought my passion fruit vein. this year i noticed about 7 flowers on them and a few days later, the flowers had gradually closed up and hit the ground. i notice more developing, and a trail of ants on them. i think the ants are getting the pollen on the flowers not allowing the flower to be fertilize for fruit. i really don,t want to harm the ants, but i may not have a choice but to put a soapy spray on my passion vein.
Good evening Rafiqa11, Always great to hear from you! What is the "C-90" you mentioned above? Regarding the ants on your passion fruit vine, please do nothing; unless you notice that their are white flies, aphids, or other sucking pest that the ants are harvesting on the vine? For some reason, ants are attracted to the sweetness the plant exudes through the flowers and leaves, but 90+% of the time without any harm to the plant. A percent of the flowers on my vine fall as well due to a variety of factors, such as lack of pollination, temperature, fertilization, watering pattern, etc... Also, as the plant gets its roots established, it will continue to gain vigor in size and fruit yields! Please keep me posted on your growing successes! Also, be sure to care for your newest additions through our upcoming heat wave. Young avocados and papayas are susceptible to our upcoming 100+ degree days. Much love and God's peace be with you too! :-) Charles
thank you charles, and i will keeop you posted on my new plants. yes there is aphids usu on the plants where the ants trail on...C-90 is higher percentage of minerals then rockdust. i was informed of this product from a blogger"growing your greens" john kohlor.
Hi Charlies. Very informative video. I live in the Los Angeles area as well and started growing the same passion fruit variety as you have a little over a year ago. I planted it in a corner of my yard and used the metal fence with several horizontal rails as a trellis. Eventually the vines grew like crazy so I just let it grow wild on the roof of my garage. So as you can imagine, this year is my first year of fruit production. As I've been harvesting the fruit and also dealing with rodents like rats, I've noticed some leaves dying off esp. on the vines closer to the main trunk. Is this normal? Another thing I noticed also is that the vines closer to the main trunk have become thicker and more "woody". I'm sure you know what I mean. I know you said that you usually prune back 80% of the vine to the main trunk. How many vines do you leave on the main trunk and do you ever prune entire vines back to the main trunk? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Dave
I've noticed the yellow passion lives for decades on islands. We had a vine on our ranch in Fiji and it's still living and giving fruit. I ate 100's of fruits off it growing up. I tried growing vines here in Central Valley CA but the hot summer is brutal (triple digits) so I'm trying purple passion now.
Yes they actually do live a long time. Dont know why he thinks they die so early. My and I live in Key west, i have to trim mine all year long, it will take over everything. Mine is over 2 years old, just started fruiting!
From my experience - after so long the zip ties can turn brittle and break. You can also ry using cord from some blinds. It is very strong and I have seen it out live zip ties easy. So if you can tie a good knot. . .And people throw away blinds all the time so you can get cord free! Jus' a suggestion.
Hello Pho Forever, Thank you so much for the compliment! My garden started without a single plant about 5 years ago... with the first tree being planted only about 3 years ago! Thank you for writing me! Charles :-)
Hi Charles, thank you for the video, very informative! I have a passion fruit vine that I inherited when I bought my house about a year and half in Southern California. We have had two good harvesting seasons, but it was mainly in Dec to March. Starting earlier this year we started noticing a lot of dry leaves, and the leaves are turning yellow. I am not sure how old is my plant, but I don’t want to lose it since it is the highlight of my garden. Is it dying? any way I can help it recover? Thank you so much for any help!
Looks so good. I need help. Do you have a problem with Passion flowers for chewed up by some insects before they get to open up? So many of my flowers got bitten off early in the morning with fresh bites. I couldn’t see any culprit. Please help
Hello, awesome video. My passion fruit puts out lots of flores but fall off, its about 2 Yrs old, its grown over 20 ft, this year but no fruit, no lack of water here in florida will all our rain. Any ideas why no fruit?thanks
Hi Charles, your video so wonderful and I learn a lot from it. Thanks so much. I'm in MD and my passion fruits grow so well and heathy for all summer, but I do not see any flower or fruit? Now weather turn cold!!!What fertilize you use on your vine? I use Miracle Gro. Is that enough or need some things else for the vine produce flowers and fruits? How you protect the vine through the winter time?
My favorite thing to do is use the passion fruit and make a curd like lemon curd and put it over cheesecake or cheesecake squares. I also make a filling for cakes. Add it to goat cheese and make a smear for over pancakes like they do in hawaii. Look up Liliko'i for recipes. These are selling for $1.99 each at Sprouts right now. So easy to grow and gorgeous flowers. I am having great success starting new plants from seeds. Took months for them to sprout, but now they are doing great!
Our purple passion fruit vines develop crown rot after a couple of years here in SW Florida. We've had to start grafting ours onto different Passiflora rootstocks. Your vines are beautiful!
I purchased two first year plants last year from a local nursery. They both grew very well. I got about over a dozen between them. Over the winter they turned yellow and as you recommended I just trimmed them down last month about 80% but they’re still yellow and slowly growing back. What’s missing? They’re in 20gal containers each. They get about 7-9hrs of sun. What fertilizer is recommended and more or less watering?
Awesome video! I am so blessed to be harvesting so much Passion Fruit this Summer! Thanks for the propagating info... I've never had success propagating my PF vines in the past. And i'll have to buy a bottle of that IV Organics spray 👍
i was enjoying eating the passionfruit with you. My family all eat the seeds but I was not sure. My next passionfruit I'm eating it seeds and all. Just gr a question does it grow true to type?
Thank you for this very informative video. I am growing a few types from seed including Passiflora tripartita mollissima - Banana Passion Fruit, Passiflora laurifolia - Water Lemon, Passiflora ligularis - Sweet Granadilla , Passiflora quadrangularis - Giant Granadilla, and Passiflora edulis - Purple Possum Passion Fruit. I hope to grow these down in Coastal Orange County Ca and hopefully in Central California around Visalia Ca. I am a little concerned about the central CA location at my parents ranch. It can get rather hot at times, over 100 degrees. Water comes from a well, so I can keep it well watered during the hot times. Think I should install a shade cloth over the vines?
Lots of helpful information. But, did I miss preferred soil types and fertilizer requirements? I've got some young plants grown from seed. LONG germination of about one month, but they made it.
Ok zip ties die in out side weather about a year! Ive used them. Im going to going to build one for mine with 2x4 and the smaller lumber... made a spider web in my back yard.. but its so so heavy! Busy week for us
I planted a passion flower about 3 years ago. It never had any flowers until this year. After the flowers a fruit formed, I'm afraid to eat the fruit thinking it might be toxic. It is an orange color with a red seed and not as big as what you are showing. It also has not fallen off the vine, and gets very airy if you pick it almost pops when squeezed. Could this be because it's its first year to produce, and is a fruit safe to eat? Thank you for your help and inexperienced passion flower grower.
great video, thank you Charles. I love passion fruits too, i'm growing a 1.5 years old passion vine here in New Jersey, it's been about 18 months and I just saw the first few flowers. one thing I am concerned with the passion fruit vines especially the big lush fence vines, I have seen pictures where snakes are found in the vines. I'm scared of snakes. Have you seen any in your vines?
Hello galaxy trekker, Thank you so much for the compliment! And it is great to hear that your having such great success growing passion fruit in NJ! Great news!!! There are snakes in our area, however, I never really thought about them hanging out on the passion fruit vine. Always a risk... if there are snakes in your area.... and the more dense the passion fruit vine, the more likely to attract more "pests". I know that there have been mice, rats, raccoons, possums, skunks that have all been reaping the benefits of the passion fruit vine and fruits that fall before I collect them. By keeping the plant smaller, and more manageable, there will be less pests and risks of lost fruit. Charles :-)
So I wonder If I can basically grow them as a perennial in Maryland 7b. We get some long hot summers here, and I could just get a cutting at the end of the season and save it for the next year
Hi, my vine is against a fence & is very thick with lots of fruit growing but the leaves underneath are turning yellow & dying. Could you please give me advice on how I can save it somehow? Thank you
I've got two passion fruit vines which I've planted 2 years . One of the vine grew like crazy into a tree what was already there when I've planted the passion fruit. Shall I prune the vines growing in the tree ? Also should I prune the vines what are overgrown over the fence to my neighbor ? If I prune it would the vine stop making flowers ? Thank you . I live in Sydney Australia and I already had all the passion fruits and I'm thinking to prune it now before they start flowering . Thank you looking forward to your advice
Hello Cornelia Nadolu, Your timing is perfect, as I will be pruning my passion fruit and demonstrating this in the upcoming week or two. The best time for pruning is when the plant begins to grow back in early spring... not right now for you in Australia (as your weather is beginning to bring plants into dormancy). I have seen many passion fruits die that have been pruned in the fall and winter months. So hang tight on your pruning of these vines until the warmer early spring weather returns to your passion fruit vine. Stay tuned.... Charles :-)
I'm glad you asked this. I'm in Florida and just planted seeds, and am thinking about where to transplant them to. I was thinking one of our many trees would be a good idea, but I wasn't sure if the plant and tree would be able to live together like that.
Hello Shyanha, My passion fruit are clones (genetically identical) cuttings from my property while I was living in Boca Raton. Be sure to take cuttings from you favorite flavor plants and be sure to keep cloning them by way of cutting or airlayering to continue the genetics as passion fruit vines have an average life span of only 7 years... maybe less, maybe more.... Keep me posted on your passion vine growing successes!!! Charles :-)
How does the pole that is parallel to your roof stay up without sliding down the support pole that is in the ground? Does the zip-tie hold it up all by itself? There is no anchor to hold it? I've got some passionfruit that are in desperate need of something like this. Thanks.
I live in zone 6-7 and I was wondering if you think it is a good idea for me to grow passion fruit in my garden? I used IV organics for my trees and it works.
Passiflora incarnata, not his P. edulis "Frederick" (which needs zone 9b), will be hardy for you. It dies to the ground every year and spreads by roots. You need two genetically different plants to pollinate each other.
Hi I am watching your videos since more than 2+ years and found all is of good standard and helpful. But not this one reg passion fruit, may think of redoing it. I have now few plants on a 1.2m wide trellis planted from seed 2 year back. Am glad it flowered recently in plenty for first time this month. But now it cannot be managed on trellis and it was not a good idea. What about idea of growing it like a curtain wall.?
Thankyou for this video. I have a purple Passion vine and it got hundreds of fruits this past spring/summer for the first time in 4 years. However it stopped flowering in June. I was wondering if this is normal or should it continue to flower through the summer?
I live in Las Cruces NM…I have the same passion vine but the fruits are tiny and turns yellow & the fruit is hollow! The plant is approx 5 years old. What am I doing wrong?
How do you know when your cutting is ready to be transplanted from the plastic cup with vermiculite/perlite to a bigger container with a different kind of soil? What kind of soil do you recommend for the second stage of propagation? Thanks a lot!
My passion fruit is yellowing, not sure what I’m doing wrong. I do have it in a large pot . Did ok until winter came in Santee . Any advice would be appreciated
I'm in zone 7 and have a vine I guess was genetically engineered to survive the cold winter, dieing down to the ground but comes back in spring. Anyway,I don't know if it will fruit but I am wondering... the foliage is very small as well as the stock, it grows in a straight thin vine. Do they usually grow bigger or is this just what I ended up with? fyi: @ 6ft I cut it back to 2ft ( now it is back to 6ft) and I made 6 more starts using your cuttings video, thanks.
I have a Possum Purple that's about 1.5 years old from a rooted cutting. It flowered a tiny bit this spring but quickly became too hot, and there was no fruit. I'm in Phoenix, AZ. Do you think it could fruit this fall? Or will I have to wait for next spring? It's also worth noting to your viewers that in Phoenix, being that mine is potted, growth pretty much stopped and started to reverse (losing vine and leaves to dehydration and sun damage) during our summer.
the best one is call ligularis I have that one very hard to maintain alive because of the weather. i also have edulis kind yellow i grew them all from seed i use to have Frederick one years ago now im doing those too.
I live in AZ. My vine is 1 year old and starting to blossom. I have been told I need to hand pollinate each flower or I won't get much fruit. Do you hand pollinate your vine? It looks like you have lots of fruit and I didn't hear you mention anything about hand pollinating it.
Hi! from Japan. Thank you for your very informative video.I am growing yellow passion fruits. They are very sweet and delicious, probably better than purple ones. But They do not set fruits for themselves. Is it possible for them to accept the pollen of purple ones? I hear this is not succesful .How you do evaluate?
Hello Xyossiy, Great to hear from you all the way from Japan! :-) Even if your variety is self fruitful, research supports that cross pollination between related (not identical; such as a non-yellow variety of passion fruit) can (1) increase yields and (2) increase the size of the fruit. This applies to many fruit trees, including grapes, apples, peaches, plums, avocados, mangos, etc, etc. Cross-pollination does not effect the flavor of the fruit, but does effect the genetics of the seeds that when grown will result in genetics of both parents that contributed to creating the fruit. This is also analogous to people with similar genetics that are more likely to pass their risk of disease to the children; compared to parents with less related genetics that together typically produce more disease-resistant offspring. Lastly, you should propagate (clone) your passion fruit vines from proven successful parent passion fruit vines by way fo cutting (as demonstrated in this video) or air-layering (as I have demonstrated in other videos using figs and lemons). I hope this explanation helps you in accomplishing more fruitful passion vines! :-) Please keep me posted on your growing successes! Charles :-)
What time of year does your passion fruit wake up and start growing there in Southern California? I have a big purple P. Edulis in my greenhouse that I would like to move outside for the spring-fall, but I'm worried about moving it out too soon and having it get stunted by the cold. My greenhouse is quite warm, and it's starting to grow fast now. I want to get it outside before it takes over.

I can hardly wait to see it take off with fresh growth.
Thank you so much. This is my first attempt here in Birmingham Uk at planting Passion Fruit. Your guidance is so helpful.
Beautiful. Be careful to keep too much growth near your A/C. The system needs good ventilation for best efficiency and lifespan. ❤️
When do yours start to flower? I'm in roseville
You have a majestic passion fruit kingdom!!!!!!!!!
Thanks
Thanks a lot for the great info. I have a small Passion Fruit orchard in the island of Bali in Indonesia
😊Excellent video on passion fruit. Thank you so much for this information.
Awesome clip I was able to learn more about passion fruit
Thanks for sharing your knowledge of the passion fruit which I love
Hello David,
(1) Any organic fertilizers, granular and liquid, fed lightly on average 1x per month through the growing season.
Charles :-)
Wow, I just bought a small starter passion fruit plant. I have a back fence I need to cover.
he charles, another great video, very infomative. i bought another fuente and bacon alvacado, and a papaya tree, today from homedepot. i put them in shade, added some c-90, and organic plant food. just wanted to say thank you. i must continue watching the rest of your video. much love and god,s peace be with you
also i meant to mention that last year i bought my passion fruit vein. this year i noticed about 7 flowers on them and a few days later, the flowers had gradually closed up and hit the ground. i notice more developing, and a trail of ants on them. i think the ants are getting the pollen on the flowers not allowing the flower to be fertilize for fruit. i really don,t want to harm the ants, but i may not have a choice but to put a soapy spray on my passion vein.
Good evening Rafiqa11,
Always great to hear from you!
Charles
thank you charles, and i will keeop you posted on my new plants. yes there is aphids usu on the plants where the ants trail on...C-90 is higher percentage of minerals then rockdust. i was informed of this product from a blogger"growing your greens" john kohlor.
Dave
thank you for all
im from the caribbean and my passion fruit vine is about 95 yrs old, and the colour is yellow passion fruit
it bears alot
I've noticed the yellow passion lives for decades on islands. We had a vine on our ranch in Fiji and it's still living and giving fruit. I ate 100's of fruits off it growing up. I tried growing vines here in Central Valley CA but the hot summer is brutal (triple digits) so I'm trying purple passion now.
Yes they actually do live a long time. Dont know why he thinks they die so early. My and I live in Key west, i have to trim mine all year long, it will take over everything. Mine is over 2 years old, just started fruiting!
Passionate fruit is the most flavor I love and I look for it in juice.
I’m in Australia and can’t wait to plant my passion fruit. Thank you for your video
From my experience - after so long the zip ties can turn brittle and break. You can also ry using cord from some blinds. It is very strong and I have seen it out live zip ties easy. So if you can tie a good knot. . .And people throw away blinds all the time so you can get cord free! Jus' a suggestion.
Your garden looks very productive and Green. Thank you for sharing!
Hello Pho Forever,
Thank you so much for the compliment!
NITROGEN ....add fertilizer
Looks so good. I need help. Do you have a problem with Passion flowers for chewed up by some insects before they get to open up? So many of my flowers got bitten off early in the morning with fresh bites. I couldn’t see any culprit. Please help
Very nice his lectures. Useful to me as a novice.
I enjoyed your video because you explained all in a simple way. Thanks
i just bought 2 plants, they're about 4 inches tall. i've never grown them before, but can't wait to see how they do in my garden in florida.
Hello, awesome video. My passion fruit puts out lots of flores but fall off, its about 2 Yrs old, its grown over 20 ft, this year but no fruit, no lack of water here in florida will all our rain. Any ideas why no fruit?thanks
Liked & subbed. Superb video, nicely done!
Great video. Thanks for sharing. My flowers keep dropping. May I know why? Thank you for sharing.
Wow! Thanks for the pruning warning. WHITE zip ties rot fast in the sun, black will last a lot longer, by now you have had to replace all of them.
I loved this, thank you for sharing. I'm headed down the passionfruit path here in Australia.
My passion fruit are yellow colour are they safe to eat
I am so glad that I found this channel. Great info 💚
Lots of helpful information. But, did I miss preferred soil types and fertilizer requirements?
I've got some young plants grown from seed. LONG germination of about one month, but they made it.
Can you plant the Frederick variety from a seed? Or is it only possible to graft it in order to grow it?
You can get UV resistant zip ties (typically black) that hold up better outside in bright sunlight.
great video, thank you Charles.
Hello galaxy trekker,
Thank you so much for the compliment! Charles :-)
If you let your doggie loose to roam around the area most likely the snakes won't feel welcome
Thank you for information. Question how do you deal with vine not choking itself ?
Thanks Charles you gave me great information for my grape vine trellis I’ve been hesitant about constructing. I’m going to build it tomorrow 🤔
Thank you
During winter time do you make a greenhouse for your passion fruit or cover it. Will the frost kill my passion plants if I don’t cover it.?
Thanks for the video very informative. I bought a Frederick Passion Flower Vine (Passiflora Frederick). Would that bear fruits or just flower?
I've got two passion fruit vines which I've planted 2 years . One of the vine grew like crazy into a tree what was already there when I've planted the passion fruit. Shall I prune the vines growing in the tree ? Also should I prune the vines what are overgrown over the fence to my neighbor ? If I prune it would the vine stop making flowers ? Thank you . I live in Sydney Australia and I already had all the passion fruits and I'm thinking to prune it now before they start flowering . Thank you looking forward to your advice
Hello Cornelia Nadolu,
Your timing is perfect, as I will be pruning my passion fruit and demonstrating this in the upcoming week or two.
Hello Shyanha,
My passion fruit are clones (genetically identical) cuttings from my property while I was living in Boca Raton.
I would love one. My mother loves passion fruit!!!
My Panama Red and Yellow P. edulis bloom in the evening and through the night from 5pm.
Thank you for sharing such a wonderful presentation. I found the information you shared is very useful and applicable. Again, thank you.
Thanks for great info. I plant it mine next to my shade tree. So it goes up.
Excellent instruction. Just notice my plant is growing again so I will Your tips to maintain this plant.
I love passion fruit
This is the BEST I've ever watched!!!!! What about Granadilla's?? I've heard it is sweeter that other passion fruits.
Charles live in arkansas grow 2 natives type purple and white bees and butterflies love them old timers call cross flower because of design.
How is the stake attached to the rain gutter? Can you post a close up of that? Thanks :)
How often do you water the passion plant?
Can you use the leaves as tea?
I’m
In Florida, a high wind storm or hurricane would probably have those poles flying?
the vine can reach upto 2 ft u can make a bigger mesh which is less cost and better harvest as they can drop well.
Question, why does the flower falls out after it blooms. Is it because is the first time blooming?
I have a Possum Purple that's about 1.5 years old from a rooted cutting. It flowered a tiny bit this spring but quickly became too hot, and there was no fruit. I'm in Phoenix, AZ. Do you think it could fruit this fall? Or will I have to wait for next spring? It's also worth noting to your viewers that in Phoenix, being that mine is potted, growth pretty much stopped and started to reverse (losing vine and leaves to dehydration and sun damage) during our summer.
I would love to get one of those little cuttings. I'm in the los Angreles area.
Also, one more question, do you think the passion fruit can thrive in a large pot?
the best one is call ligularis I have that one very hard to maintain alive because of the weather. i also have edulis kind yellow i grew them all from seed i use to have Frederick one years ago now im doing those too.
Hello Xyossiy,
Great to hear from you all the way from Japan! Charles :-)
Hey There Charles, What time of year can you take the cuttings for best chance of success?
A few of my blue Horizon Passiflora leaves are turning yellow but I don’t know what nutrient it’s not getting. May I ask for your advice please?
What time of year does your passion fruit wake up and start growing there in Southern California? I have a big purple P. Edulis in my greenhouse that I would like to move outside for the spring-fall, but I'm worried about moving it out too soon and having it get stunted by the cold. My greenhouse is quite warm, and it's starting to grow fast now. I want to get it outside before it takes over.
I learned a lot from this video. I have a passion fruit tree which I plan to propagate. Thank you!
