Yeah, part of the problem is that he was never supposed to be a bachelor but a close friend, and his addition as bachelor was rushed. It's more of an "implementation" issue than an "story arch" issue IMO.

Definitely agree that Alex is better for male farmers! I pretty much always marry him when I play as a male farmer. Alex actually does seem to be confused about having feelings for another man, and George will even comment that a man marrying another man is "unnatural" until you max out hearts with him. The depth that it adds to his character and storyline as a spouse is subtle, but makes a big difference. Overall, Alex's transition from slightly misogynistic jock to sweet himbo farm husband is great on a male farmer. Highly recommend.
I think it’s sad that he doesn’t have a deep story arch for the female farmer perspective. It would’ve been nice to see him struggle with his toxic masculinity and to see him change in that way. I do appreciate the male farmer storyline though because it is realistic for a guy like him in a small town to struggle with his sexuality, I think that many people can sympathise with that and maybe even relate. Especially with a family member like George who struggles to accept the fact. Maybe there could’ve been a storyline where George struggles to accept that Alex is just a house husband and that the woman brings the money home or something to make it a bit deeper for the female farmer because there is a lot missing in that storyline tbh. I know it’s not the same struggle but it would be more than what we have now
Sure, Harvey is boring and not that attractive... But hey, I think his cutscene with hot air balloon is one of the best! He's overcome his fear of high for Farmer, he spend probably a lot of money for that ballon, plus when you two are in pink skies it looks sooo cute and romantic... Not even my favourite poetic Elliott did someting that romantic :( So it means something
His story as well is quite interesting as well, how he’s scarred from losing people as a doctor, and his dream of flying a plane which was ruined due to his fear of heights. Also he’s freaky as hell. He offers to massage the farmer (kinda suggestively) and admits to enjoy watching the farmer work on the farm. I love the deep traumatised weirdo
I don't know why, but for me Sebastian has always been 1 and Maru has been 2. To change that, I married and divorced all the characters, but those two remained special in my heart.
I agree with everyone on your list except Sam. He feels immature to me. You can literally have children with him, but his ten heart scene has you sneaking in through the window and him hiding you from his mom in his bed. Like, dude, what are you sixteen? Why are you so afraid to talk about your relationship with your mother? I don't know, I'm only 22 which is young I know, it still feels like he's too young for me, and not really mature enough to handle an adult relationship yet
I think depends of your age.. Maybe younger players will prefer the more teen ones, but if you are in your 20~30 or more you start feeling weird dating people that look teenager tropes. (Not all of them are exactly full trope, Sebastian isnt a full emo is more he is introvert)
I never got the sense that Elliott thinks he is better than the farmer. Quite the opposite, actually! He greatly admires you and the work you do. I think, a bit of a paradox, but I think he is a bit socially awkward. I think he's good with words, but less so in expressing emotion towards people he is getting to know. But once you become great friends/partners, that's when you get the poetry :)

I actually really like Elliot tbh 😅. I know it’s a bit of a controversial “unpopular” opinion, but I really like his character arc. I never really noticed him to be kinda condescending or anything like that lols (I’m not always the best at understanding people), and I just really love his character development over time. Especially after you marry him, and he goes on his book tour, I really like that aspect of his character 😊. And plus, I’ve been a sucker for guys with long hair 😅
My personal favorite is Penny (because she’s super nice, and she deserved everything I could give her), but Abigail is a close second (she’s funky and my Stardew addicted friend is also named Abigail so I’m trying to replace them with Purple Abigail)
Ive had 2 stardew playthrus, and leah was best girl in both of them, mostly because im one of those odd folk that felt guilty about flirting/ focusing on another character 😅 -side note, recently discovered your channel and that lummi's got you tagline is adorable
The way I see it, Haley and Shane benefit the most from your friendship (Haley becoming a real sweetheart instead of a petty selfish b!tch, and Shane getting help with his alcoholism and depression), while Penny and Alex benefit the most from marriage (Penny gets out of that living situation, while Alex's dream of being a professional athlete is, while not necessarily _impossible,_ extremely unrealistic at this point in his life). Everybody else, except maybe Sam who still acts like a teenager, pretty much has their lives together.
Honestly, Leah and Elliot are my personal favorites, with Abigail close behind. I dont think Elliot is necessarily condescending. He's got a huge vocabulary and i dont think it's wrong to make use of it. He also appeals to me because like me, he's a writer and a poet and loves the ocean. I love Leah's love of nature and art and her determination to live life in a way that makes her happy. Leah and Elliot would probably be the types of people I'd live to date in real life. Abigail is quirky and unashamed and I absolutely love her for it. If i dont end up with her, she's definitely somebody i want as a close friend. I also find her rock eating kinda funny because of how absurd it is. It adds to her charm for me. The great thing about the datables in this game is that there's someone to love for everyone. Not everyone is your type but they dont have to be. I like Elliot and Leah for the reasons I listef which may be the reasons for which others dislike them. And that's okay!!
I will tell you exactly why Abigail is so great even tho I see less people choose her as their favorite the more she is labeled a fan favorite. When I first played the game, I felt like there were no good marriage candidates because I hadn’t played enough of the game yet and chose Abigail cause she overall seemed nice, had cool things in her room, looked pretty, and played a woodwind which I think is just adorable. I think even after learning some of the other candidate’s heart events, I still choose Abigail cause she is rugged and kinda edgy, but not as much as you think after marrying her. Her 14 heart event made my heart melt. She obviously takes a monster’s life to save yours, but she shows a sliver of the person you almost never see her as. She feels remorse for killing a monster even though it was attacking you. She usually is a healthy mix of goth gamer girl, and the other half is sweet and caring girl. She shows a special part of the ladder half by feeling bad enough for a single monster to bury it and make a grave. It’s also implied that due to the barrier around the farm, monsters shouldn’t spawn outside of caves, but one irregular one does. It’s possible Harvey or Linus wouldn’t have been around to save you. The grave is there for the entire save file and it’s just a beautiful thing I love thinking about. I also wanna point out that while I see Caroline as an amazing mother, Pierre isn’t the best father. Don’t get me wrong he does a great job providing for his family, but he tends to not only prioritize work over his family (Caroline mentions this at the festivals), but he also rejects Abigail’s life choices and never seems to have any major changes in his view. Caroline is supportive of Abigail, even if she sometimes wishes she would go back to her brown hair. The scene at the grave really gives her personality, standing to her father who still seems to try to control her even though she’s old enough to marry. And letting us have a 2-player Prairie King round with her was really cute. I also think her spirit board heart event is really sweet because it’s before you date, so she gets really flustered, but comes by the next day to apologize and says that “you probably know why I freaked out”. I’ve enjoyed every minute of being married to her and given the choice of who to marry, I would always pick her again. I haven’t gone through most of the candidate’s heart events, but I’ve seen a few and I plan on going on a separate save file to try all of them, but Abigail really is and will always be my favorite. (Plus the last secret note I found was the list of her favorite things so that was a funny “coincidence”). Btw she doesn’t just eat rocks. She eats gems. Doing so and being fine requires an iron stomach. It’s no flaw. Thanks you for coming to my TedTalk. Edit: Just gonna put out there that although I forgot to mention it, I absolutely adore her 10 heart event when you and her play a melody by the lake. It’s something I always thought was cute about her and doing it with her for once was an amazing experience. 3: Abigail. As a gamer and a person who plays music myself, I see her as a plus. She also has a pet guniea pig, like I used to when I was little. Her father is also always on her back and that shows just how much she feels controlled and needs someone to be there to back her up. However, despite all her positives, she believes in the occult and ghosts, which is the only reason she's not higher on the list. 2: Leah. Her heart and soul are pure. She loves foraging, which makes her a good match with a farmer. Her artistic talent is something I admire as well as her tenacity to turn the town into an artistic hotspot with beauty and amazment at every turn. She never stops trying and knows how to stand up to people. She stands up for herself and her dreams. She's strong-willed and brave. Her healthy eating habits are questionable for me, though. And also, that statue is pretty weird, ngl. 1: Emily. While I am an atheist and I don't believe in horoscopes, Emily is my star. She never is shy of her true colours and instead of hiding her insecurities and awkwardness, she embraces them and converts them into badges that she isn't afraid to show. Her tailoring passion is also something that I can get behind, being a bit of an embroider myself! Along with that, she loves all animals and her friendship with Sandy is long-distance, but strong. Emily is kind, funny, enthusiastic, and even though she's fictional, her aloof and kooky personality always makes my voice bubble with laughter.
My first was Emily, but then I found out she wasn't originally gonna be bachelorette, which made me feel kinda weird for some reason. Plus, seeing her at the farm and not at the tavern as much made me feel kinda sad like I took her life away even though I didn't.
Sam is the love of my life, and Sebastian is my soulmate. I divorced them both, to try. I felt really sad and missed Sam a lot. But Seb, it broke my heart so hard that I won't divorce him ever again 😂 (For those who may be confused, soulmates don't have to be lovers. They can be very special (close or not) friends, the ones that would always support and understand you, no matter what's going on in your life. And breaking that special relation makes you feel empty.)

So I have a few different runs going. The very first one I started going for Haley for obvious reasons. But in the one I have the most progress in so far I went for Sebastian. I love Sebastian and am anxiously waiting for it to rain so I can marry him 🥲
Tbh I didn't find any of the bachelors appealing. Maybe I'd put Sam and Elliot as potential marriage candidates character wise, but I simply don't swing that way. With the rest it was already mentioned how Alex works better for male farmers and personally characters like Shane are just the opposite of attractive to me, it's not even a "I can fix him" situation because he literally relapses. To quote what I apparently wrote about Harvey to my friends when first playing SV "Harvey is a marriage candidate?? He looks like man in a divorce with four kids and he doesn't pay the child support". Sebastian is ok but also I literally feel like we're tying him down to a place he wants to leave by marrying him :/ Haley is peak choice, her story is just so sweet and she actually improves by the end of it (unlike a certain someone cough cough). I originally picked Maru on my first playthrough, but I'd say she's a bit bland. The rest of bachelorettes are fine, except Abigail, she lashed out at me for no reason on my first playthrough and it became a personal vendetta, also I just don't get why everyone wants to marry her. Krobus is precious, I do wish he had more character events though, he could use some. Also why can't we have kids with him?? Sometimes you just want to raise some kids with your homie.

Like you said, lots of people like her because she's "not like other girls" and "purple hair" or whatever, but I love her because of how similar we are! I love all her heart events, and I interpret her dialogue differently than I think others do (like when she says she likes the rain, she looks genuinely super happy and adorable rather than her trying to jst be different)

I never got the sense that Elliott thinks he is better than the farmer. Quite the opposite, actually! He greatly admires you and the work you do. I think, a bit of a paradox, but I think he is a bit socially awkward. I think he's good with words, but less so in expressing emotion towards people he is getting to know. But once you become great friends/partners, that's when you get the poetry :)

I actually really like Elliot tbh 😅. I know it’s a bit of a controversial “unpopular” opinion, but I really like his character arc. I never really noticed him to be kinda condescending or anything like that lols (I’m not always the best at understanding people), and I just really love his character development over time. Especially after you marry him, and he goes on his book tour, I really like that aspect of his character 😊. And plus, I’ve been a sucker for guys with long hair 😅

The way I see it, Haley and Shane benefit the most from your friendship (Haley becoming a real sweetheart instead of a petty selfish b!tch, and Shane getting help with his alcoholism and depression), while Penny and Alex benefit the most from marriage (Penny gets out of that living situation, while Alex's dream of being a professional athlete is, while not necessarily _impossible,_ extremely unrealistic at this point in his life). Everybody else, except maybe Sam who still acts like a teenager, pretty much has their lives together.
Honestly, Leah and Elliot are my personal favorites, with Abigail close behind. I dont think Elliot is necessarily condescending. He's got a huge vocabulary and i dont think it's wrong to make use of it. He also appeals to me because like me, he's a writer and a poet and loves the ocean.
I love Leah's love of nature and art and her determination to live life in a way that makes her happy.
Leah and Elliot would probably be the types of people I'd live to date in real life.
Abigail is quirky and unashamed and I absolutely love her for it. If i dont end up with her, she's definitely somebody i want as a close friend. I also find her rock eating kinda funny because of how absurd it is. It adds to her charm for me.
The great thing about the datables in this game is that there's someone to love for everyone. Not everyone is your type but they dont have to be. I like Elliot and Leah for the reasons I listef which may be the reasons for which others dislike them. And that's okay!!

I will tell you exactly why Abigail is so great even tho I see less people choose her as their favorite the more she is labeled a fan favorite. When I first played the game, I felt like there were no good marriage candidates because I hadn’t played enough of the game yet and chose Abigail cause she overall seemed nice, had cool things in her room, looked pretty, and played a woodwind which I think is just adorable. I think even after learning some of the other candidate’s heart events, I still choose Abigail cause she is rugged and kinda edgy, but not as much as you think after marrying her. Her 14 heart event made my heart melt. She obviously takes a monster’s life to save yours, but she shows a sliver of the person you almost never see her as. She feels remorse for killing a monster even though it was attacking you. She usually is a healthy mix of goth gamer girl, and the other half is sweet and caring girl. She shows a special part of the ladder half by feeling bad enough for a single monster to bury it and make a grave. It’s also implied that due to the barrier around the farm, monsters shouldn’t spawn outside of caves, but one irregular one does. It’s possible Harvey or Linus wouldn’t have been around to save you. The grave is there for the entire save file and it’s just a beautiful thing I love thinking about. I also wanna point out that while I see Caroline as an amazing mother, Pierre isn’t the best father. Don’t get me wrong he does a great job providing for his family, but he tends to not only prioritize work over his family (Caroline mentions this at the festivals), but he also rejects Abigail’s life choices and never seems to have any major changes in his view. Caroline is supportive of Abigail, even if she sometimes wishes she would go back to her brown hair. The scene at the grave really gives her personality, standing to her father who still seems to try to control her even though she’s old enough to marry. And letting us have a 2-player Prairie King round with her was really cute. I also think her spirit board heart event is really sweet because it’s before you date, so she gets really flustered, but comes by the next day to apologize and says that “you probably know why I freaked out”. I’ve enjoyed every minute of being married to her and given the choice of who to marry, I would always pick her again. I haven’t gone through most of the candidate’s heart events, but I’ve seen a few and I plan on going on a separate save file to try all of them, but Abigail really is and will always be my favorite. (Plus the last secret note I found was the list of her favorite things so that was a funny “coincidence”). Btw she doesn’t just eat rocks. She eats gems. Doing so and being fine requires an iron stomach. It’s no flaw. Thanks you for coming to my TedTalk.
Edit: Just gonna put out there that although I forgot to mention it, I absolutely adore her 10 heart event when you and her play a melody by the lake. It’s something I always thought was cute about her and doing it with her for once was an amazing experience. She even mentions it multiple times after the event happens, saying she’s still learning new things about you. Great and underrated heart event. 💜

3: Abigail. As a gamer and a person who plays music myself, I see her as a plus. She also has a pet guniea pig, like I used to when I was little. Her father is also always on her back and that shows just how much she feels controlled and needs someone to be there to back her up. However, despite all her positives, she believes in the occult and ghosts, which is the only reason she's not higher on the list.
2: Leah. Her heart and soul are pure. She loves foraging, which makes her a good match with a farmer. Her artistic talent is something I admire as well as her tenacity to turn the town into an artistic hotspot with beauty and amazment at every turn. 1: Emily. While I am an atheist and I don't believe in horoscopes, Emily is my star. She never is shy of her true colours and instead of hiding her insecurities and awkwardness, she embraces them and converts them into badges that she isn't afraid to show. Her tailoring passion is also something that I can get behind, being a bit of an embroider myself! Along with that, she loves all animals and her friendship with Sandy is long-distance, but strong. Emily is kind, funny, enthusiastic, and even though she's fictional, her aloof and kooky personality always makes my voice bubble with laughter.

Tbh I didn't find any of the bachelors appealing. Maybe I'd put Sam and Elliot as potential marriage candidates character wise, but I simply don't swing that way. With the rest it was already mentioned how Alex works better for male farmers and personally characters like Shane are just the opposite of attractive to me, it's not even a "I can fix him" situation because he literally relapses. To quote what I apparently wrote about Harvey to my friends when first playing SV "Harvey is a marriage candidate?? He looks like man in a divorce with four kids and he doesn't pay the child support". Sebastian is ok but also I literally feel like we're tying him down to a place he wants to leave by marrying him :/
Haley is peak choice, her story is just so sweet and she actually improves by the end of it (unlike a certain someone cough cough). I originally picked Maru on my first playthrough, but I'd say she's a bit bland. The rest of bachelorettes are fine, except Abigail, she lashed out at me for no reason on my first playthrough and it became a personal vendetta, also I just don't get why everyone wants to marry her.
Krobus is precious, I do wish he had more character events though, he could use some. Also why can't we have kids with him?? Sometimes you just want to raise some kids with your homie.

Like you said, lots of people like her because she's "not like other girls" and "purple hair" or whatever, but I love her because of how similar we are! I love all her heart events, and I interpret her dialogue differently than I think others do (like when she says she likes the rain, she looks genuinely super happy and adorable rather than her trying to jst be different)
