OMG, come on brother, you instruct the suspect to remain in the car, but there’s no compliance. Swiftly draw your service weapon and maintain a safe distance until the suspect complies with your commands. If the suspect persists in non-compliance, don’t hesitate to employ your service weapon. Remember, in situations involving threatening behavior, opt for the service weapon rather than the taser, as taser has proven ineffective, especially in cases related to substance abuse. Glad you are okay, and glad that psycho wont be a threat to anyone else.
That punch definitely had an effect, as he was a trained boxer. He want just sparring with the LEO. The LEO was trained to keep his head and fight, even after sustaining different types of injuries. That's what saved his life.
@@MamaKalash this is why I tell officers and deputies to seriously trained hand to hand combatives and stay on top of fitness. It is a warrior job and you could die against a more lethal warrior or coward ambush
I'm a retired Sheriff's Deputy & have been in some hairy situations & have seen a lot but this is one of those few video's that really gets to you. Physical altercations while trying to detain someone is one thing but when an individual suddenly turns on you & is in a position to where they've got the upper hand, reaching for your sidearm & doing everything that they can to kill you by smashing your head with a rock is on a totally different level. Only critique I have is that he should have been about 2-3 feet further back from the suspect. Glad the officer came out of this as well as he did because he could very well not be here right now. I wish him a speedy recovery & hope that he has no lasting ailments from this encounter. Stay safe!
I'm retired from the job also, and videos like this bring back the 'like it happened yesterday' 1 on 1 brutal 'dogfight' I had, where sidearm retention was key, as the firearm was the perp's sole focus of gaining possession/control to carry out what many call 'the unthinkable' (YT compliant term). I was at that extra 2-3 feet further back prior to the subject's extremely fast leap which put his hand on the entire grip of my sidearm while we both went to the ground. It went far more brutal than most could imagine, but extremely thankful I survived it, considering that dispatch screwed up big time and had sent my backup to my last call location, over 1/2 a mile away.
Agree, but i've seen this before...especially from bad cops who think that walking up on you is some intimidation tactic. Might work with joe blow, but with a Psycho, you're putting your life in danger.
Retired road Sergeant here from a large metro area in the midwest. salute to you! I agree with everything you have said here. He should have had some distance from the suspect but everything happened pretty fast. I think in this situation he was thinking about him running and was close to him ready to take control, he had little time to see he wasn't going to run and back off a bit. But like they say, every plan goes out the window when the encounter actually starts. It is very surprising and shocking to be attacked out of nowhere like that and it's happened to me more than once, as i'm sure it's happened to you! Luckily we rode in 2 man/woman cars so it very rarely got to the point of an OIS though I can recall one instance of an officer working an off duty and encountered a guy high on wet and attacked him like this and he did end up having to shoot that guy. We didn't have tasers in those days, just pepper spray, a PR-24, your fists and your gun. Toward the end we did start to carry tasers and one striking statistic that struck me when I was in training that even succesful taser deployments (When the taser makes contact appropriately and the device functions as intended: is effective around 75% of the time. There are a lot of situations police find ourselves in that most other people don't understand, is that you not only have to sometimes make a split second decision, but consider multiple things at the same time. Taser or shoot? You need to choose to shoot or roll the dice on 25% chance that it doesn't work. That's too much for me. I used it whenever possible but I was already ready for it to fail too. You know all this and it is for the benfit of other people readying. Just wanted to jump in the convo. ;) Cheers man and I hope you are enjoying your retirement. A lot less stress eh? lol

Congressional Democrats defunded them in the 80’s, because they stigmatized the mentally ill, and we’re living with that decision still. Related, they love to blame Reagan, but for all 8 years of his presidency, he had a Democrat House and Senate that were passing federal budgets.
Nah watch the end of the video, he thought he was a martial artist. He imagined he was going to KO the cop but you can tell he’s never hit anything but a bag.
Very little yes, but just by training he is still improving his swing, strength of swing, coordination, stance and possibly most important endurance with fighting.
Jelicich was from Sacramento, California. While on felony probation in California, he absconded to Arizona where, in July 2020, he assaulted three Sedona police officers. Why he wasn't still in prison is the real mystery.
The officer also lost control the second he let the guy get outta the car despite being told to stay there. And then the officer let the guy close distance.
@@skoden1313Yuuup! Makes me sick watching how today’s street cop performs (or doesn’t). I did the job for 34 years. I worked the streets in LA during the 90’s and early 2000’s. Cops are so timid and they rely way too much on that crap taser, which is joke most of the time. I could go on and on, but I’m retired now…. Time to relax.
I also find this strange in the United States, I believe it is to cover a larger area with more patrol vehicles, but it is much more risky with just one police officer, here in Brazil the police usually travel in pairs and up to four officers, obviously here it is very more dangerous, but should be standard across the world.
The thing is in order to make it standard for police to travel in pairs we have to pay more in taxes for law enforcement which people and even politicians don’t want to. In fact a lot of them want to take money away from law enforcement and fire departments for other projects. I’m all up to pay more money for my safety instead of sending money to other countries.
Yeah his finger gun video is kind of ironic, someone said he actually walks by the location of his traffic stop in that video but I couldn’t really tell. Not disagreeing on the use of force continuum, but you’re wrong on the taser working only on certain people. The two biggest reasons tasers are ineffective are loose clothing preventing the probe from making contact, second is probe spread and no neuromuscular incapacitation (NMI). If a taser is deployed point blank you get no spread (you need at least 12”) and No NMI. If your going to do this you have to staple high and low on the body to make a spread, then youre in business. Just wait til some videos come out of people being hit with the Taser 10…. It’s money.
@@Isaac_Davis_ Yes, tasers work on everyone just as effectively, but only if the two barbs fired penetrate to the skin and achieve an electrical circuit. What all can we learn from this? First of all, the red flag is him not staying in the car. The second problem is that the officer is way too close to this idiot who has just disobeyed and stepped out. *Felon injures three officers* By Ron Eland - July 11, 2020 Three Sedona police officers sustained minor injuries during an arrest of a California man in West Sedona on Thursday, July 9. According to a police report, a man called into the department during early morning hours and alleged that a man had punched him. At around 1:30 a.m., officers made contact with suspect *Donovan Jelicic* to ask about the disorderly conduct complaint. After attempting to strike one officer, the report states that Jelicich ran away and a short foot pursuit ensued along Shelby Drive. Jelicich turned and fought two officers and kicked a third. Jelicich was tased and struck several times while fighting back. Eventually Jelicich was taken into custody. Police found that he had a felony nationwide extradition for absconding his probation in California. Jelicich was charged with three counts of assault on law enforcement officers, three counts of resisting arrest and disorderly conduct along with the felony warrant. Sgt. Michael Dominguez said all three officers involved in the incident are doing well.
That officer is a BADASS!! He legit LET HIM feel like he had the upper hand, hence "YOU KNOW WHO I AM," did HIS BUSINESS and nonchalantly walked off without a word. BRAVO 👏
We have to figure out a way to keep our officers safer in this crazy world the way it is going. I pray for the young officer and I hope he can move on from this terrible incident.
“The taser was ineffective” - wow… shocker. It’s amazing how many times this statement occurs on police BWC videos. I’d never have let him get w/in 10 feet of me unless he was sitting in his car. The moment he exited the vehicle it becomes a defensive situation. The reason he exited was to get closer to the officer, a major warning sign.
Sharing hit the bag and think he’s was a tough guy, anyone can hit a heavy bag. What they fail to remember is that heavy bags don’t punch back, but people do.

That's not a feature. Cops prefer to carry Glock and other simple, striker fired pistols with no safeties because of things like this. I am curious though, which semi auto handguns will not fire with a loaded chamber when the mag is removed? I have FNH, M&P, Sig, CZ, Glock and Canik and all of them will fire the loaded chamber without the magazine.
Lmao… Those things suck and only seem work 20% of the time… All it does is infuriate and agitate the suspect usually leading to escalating the situation immediately…
It's infuriating to see the officer having to fight for his life. The loss of a life is sad. But, the world is now a safer place. Hopefully, the officer continues to heal and recouperate. Thank you for your service to the community.
This guy hits like you do in a dream. All the intent, absolutely no power behind it. Turns out shrugging as high as you can and bending 45 degrees forward isn’t a “stance”…
I’m Canadian, and in every city/town with a local department ever single squad car has 2 officers per car the only exception is K-9 unit the officer is alone as a human but has his dog partner and supervisors drive around alone but they less do any type of immediate contact with civilian subjects, they usually arrive on scene after the 2 man squad cars have it sorted out. But I’m saying all this because this is one stressful fucking job and being alone just makes it 10x worse
No headlights? I'm thinking intoxicated or high. Continues to get out of vehicle after being told to stay in? I'm thinking this guy is going to be a problem. Officer allowing guy to stand that close him? Definitely a problem. Not long ago an officer was stabbed to death on a suspicious person call. Walked right up to the guy, no distance, guy produced knife and attacked officer. False sense of security can get you killed.
I am a cop in Paris. We patrol at least with 3 police officers per crew. Compared to the United States, judges believe criminals first before police officers. in the case of the video we would not even have the right to shoot. a shame
😮my biggest concern is why are so many people nowadays willing to die over nothings. What's making these people think that life is so sheet.that they just can't get passed it it's not just mental illness it's more like stress and they cannot cope. That's my thoughts on it.glad he never took the cop with him.

@@waffleMccoy Absolutelty right , the moment a suspect or a person dont follow your commands, be very careful, ask for back up and you are so right, dont stand so close, it's against training in the police academy
@@waffleMccoyyes
What all can we learn from this? First of all, the red flag is him not staying in the car.
The second problem is that the officer is way too close to this idiot who has just disobeyed and stepped out.

You have to respect the dangers that officers face and how they move towards danger rather than rum from it.
"taser ineffective" Most used words the past 20 years
Tasers have been around for 30, so either tasers are getting less effective or you just have the false assumption that they are as ineffective as these videos make them seem, which for all we know could just be a case of survivor's bias. I assume you have a proposition as to what should substitute a taser instead?

What the police are not saying is that with the officer having lost his magazine in the initial struggle it was one of the guys on the mountain who fired the shot.
And this case is a good example as to why I don't like magazine disconnect safetys on firearms.
It makes no sense. Only thing it would help is idiots who don't know how to clear their guns from accidentally shooting themselves while costing others their lives in self defense situations.

*Felon injures three officers*
By Ron Eland - July 11, 2020
Three Sedona police officers sustained minor injuries during an arrest of a California man in West Sedona on Thursday, July 9.

Exactly!
That's not a feature. Cops prefer to carry Glock and other simple, striker fired pistols with no safeties because of things like this. I am curious though, which semi auto handguns will not fire with a loaded chamber when the mag is removed? I’m Canadian, and in every city/town with a local department ever single squad car has 2 officers per car the only exception is K-9 unit the officer is alone as a human but has his dog partner and supervisors drive around alone but they less do any type of immediate contact with civilian subjects, they usually arrive on scene after the 2 man squad cars have it sorted out. But I’m saying all this because this is one stressful fucking job and being alone just makes it 10x worse
