    This is a clear cut case of bullying. I would hire a lawyer and go after the MFNZ for loss of income, and after the police for harassment if anything goes beyond questioning for a complaint. That being said, I don't know the laws over there, were you in Canada this would work. I'm sorry for all the unnecessary stress you endure due to these petulant children. They're lucky you're so compliant if I had your knowledge I'd create a device to ensure they lose control over their RC's every time they're in the air and I would cost them every penny plus interest that they cost me. I hope everything goes well with your current project.

      if it was me, i would jam the frequencies their transmitters operate on. LOL. Look into something called Skyjack. Technically, you could ground their aircraft by just sending across the Data packets that keep the motors RPMs low enough as to not create enough lift to fly..

    That's the reason I no longer belong to a model flying club. Too much politics along with shitty attitudes. They get pissy if you miss a club meeting where its the same old BS that bores you to sleep. Glad I own 25 acres now in the country where nobody is around to bother me :)

  • @glassdogangle

    LOL... I use the term "infants" and "grumpy old men" regularly when I refer to the same 2% of model fliers we have here in the USA. I used to think this was a cliché, but there truly is a small group of individuals in the world who really "Had their lunch money stolen on a regular basis when they were kids." Go on now, run to mommy and tell her how bad Bruce has been behaving lately.

  • @0917bobb

    Bruce, don't talk to them. If their equipment is not up to spec then they deserve to lose the plane and their case they would assume that it was their own piece of junk plane that was at fault because that is what it is. As long as you are operating with in the limits of your country's regulation do not do the clowns any favors because as you know no good deed goes unpunished.

    • @xjet

      Unfortunately, and despite the specious allegations of MFNZ, I am someone who likes to try my best to ensure that expensive models don't get broken and people don't get hurt (or in the case of a 200mph turbine... possibly even killed).

    • @0917bobb
      @0917bobb 10 років тому +10

      ***** I am sorry and I know that it sounds a little Draconian on my part but Bruce the idiots that you may have possibly saved from losing their turbine are likely to lose their turbine anyway even without you being around because their equipment is still out of spec and your concern did not change that situation. Their mistakes are not your responsibility; certainly not when they stab you in the back at every opportunity.

      0917bobb If a serious accident occurred these "pilots" (using that word very loosely) would undoubtedly blame Bruce. He was just trying to do the right thing and covering his ass by warning them. BTW, Bruce you are very welcome to move to Aussie land. It's nice and warm at the moment and there's a lot less "Grumpy old men" here :)

      Sorry Bob, you just don't get how things work here.
      The SWMAC was shut down by MFNZ on the basis of undisclosed allegations of wrongdoing. No details of these "serious allegations" were ever presented, no evidence was ever provided and no chance was ever given to the club (or myself) to defend ourselves.
      Things work differently when monopolies are involved -- they are accountable to nobody and what they say goes - regardless of whether they're right or whether their rulings are unfair and unjust.

    I realize that this video is over 2 years old, but I would suggest making a claim against the heads of these organizations that are keeping you from exercising your rights, and do so at the NZ equivalent of Queens Bench, where lawyers are not allowed. If they are denying you your rights and causing you loses (money) and injuries (denial of rights), then you have a valid claim. If the problem has been resolved at the time of this comment, then hopefully it will help others with similar troubles in Canada, uSA, Australia, and England...basically any country where the jurisprudence is English common law.
    Cheers

    Bruce, I'm afraid the idiocy on some level lies with you. You need to take this to court. 1. Get your ability to fly restored and 2. Stop playing Mr Nice Guy please. You're getting screwed! If you need some advice on representing yourself as a litigant in person pls message me. This is now ridiculous! Fight! Fight! Fight! I am LIP in the UK and winning against bulldog barristers. No fear, take it to court!

    • @IdeologieUK
      @IdeologieUK 10 років тому +3

      Bruce become a LITIGANT IN PERSON. It will cost you very little and with sound arguments you will win. You may have to make an undertaking not to take the piss outta them on UA-cam, but if flying contributes to your income then you have a case to win. A bit of research on your part, maybe a McKenzie friend to help and you will win in court. Your ability to fly and continue this great channel is far more important than staying the same saying, "I can't afford a barrister". Act!

    • @xjet
      @xjet 10 років тому

      FlyBoySee
      I don't think I'm actually taking the piss.
      If I called them names that were in appropriate and did not accurately reflect their actions then you'd be right.
      However, I called them "grumpy old men" and, someone correct me if I'm wrong, that certainly appears to be nothing more than an accurate description -- even if they don't like it -- it's a fact.
      Likewise those who called the police on the weekend. No person in their right mind could challenge the claims I've made as to the sensibilities of those who engaged in that ridiculous course of action.
      I *have* made MFNZ an offer to resolve this situation. I believeit to be a very fair offer and it would result in me working hard within the organisation to promote the hobby, support its members and restore, preserve and enhance the reputation of the organisation.
      Will they accept it?
      Whether they do or not will speak volumes.

    • @BanquoTheMaker
      @BanquoTheMaker 10 років тому +2

      ***** I agree with FlyBoySee and many many others here.
      I always liked your Videos and your uncomplicated attitude towards mostly any kind of thing.
      You went to the people, to make sure, they know what are doing, to clear things off, I fully understand that, give them a precaution, because you care for not being responsible for any damage and you want them to fly safely.
      I guess that is just how you have been raised, being polite to people, being a (like it seems on YT) nice person willing to share knowledge. And that's great!
      What is not that great, is that are being exploited and suppressed by MFNZ.
      You are being totally *nasty word*-ed by these people and they do what they do, because... well no body in the MFNZ has the courage to do the right thing, obviously.
      The mistake you make, is not claiming your right in front of something that is ABOVE MFNZ. There is a saying in Germany "If there's no claimant, there's no judge." If you don't claim, don't expect anything to happen.
      Maybe a fundraise would help getting you a lawyer, and I would definitely chip in with 20 Bucks, even though I am a poor Student, it would be worth it, because you are doing great work!
      Sincerly,
      Banquo

    You're right, they don't have a case. 2.4 GHz is a GURL (General User Radio Licence) band and no one can complain about someone using it even if they were using it first. Same for 5.75 GHz.
    "You pays your money, you take yer chances".
    Having said that you may have interference issues into your obstacle avoidance system too. My mate and I build high level drones here in NZ and I agree that electronic obstacle avoidance is the key to all these fears from the regulators.
    I'd be interested in learning more. We've been working with LIDAR so far which uses lasers.

      ***** Without meaning to say unnecessarily disparaging things about the many cool people who still remain in New Zealand, it's suicide rate is extremely high, one of the worst in the world.. this is blamed chiefly on the pushy macho culture and neoLiberal/free market policies pushed there by trendy sneer suited conservanuts.. it has one of the worst incarceration rates too, the highest in the developed world I believe.. Far right think tanks in America call it a roaring success.. ie, what normal humans call complete failure in which low IQ psychopaths rip the population off with junk and drivel, where life seems meaningless, filled with hollow ads, bullying finance, sociopathic bureaucracy, little sense of justice, fairness or equality.
      Australia has it's problems too.. but I (in the UK) would far rather live in dynamic and exciting Australia than in NZ.. which by all metrics appears to be imploding into an ad lobotomy and greedy snide Hell.
      If Bruce moved to Australia, he could pick and choose a spot to live, where his work could make a real difference to remote communities, with small deliveries, monitoring land, long flights over desert areas, leisure and beach life etc.
      Such flight of talent out of NZ would be no more than a typical consequence of it's own decline of smart & human friendly culture.,. and exactly what it appears to deserve.
      Heck, he'd be a super star there in many ways to the Australian RC community.. undoubtedly they, or many other countries, would welcome such an interesting and helpful personality with open arms.

      www.fraserinstitute.org/research-news/news/display.aspx?id=19171
      it is a measure of how conservative and how little regulation countries have, ie, how much corps rule with tabloid sales junk.
      ie, it does not take any account of things like incarceration rates, standard of living of the population, or justice etc.

My Uncle was into it in a BIG way before his passing a few years ago, that spiked my interest.... took me a little while to get into it, but anyway...I'm new into all of this RC stuff, started out with a large and cheap, gyro helicopter, but certainly loads of fun! That's actually funny to me as a licensed Amateur Radio operator in the USA. Hams here are allowed up to 1500 watts of power (or 1500000 mW if you prefer) on the bottom 6 wifi "channels" of that ISM band, as primary users. Plus we have 3 channels below channel 1. So the modelers would have a moot point here, and the federal license would trump any unlicensed complaints. (However, intentional interference would still be a no-no, and wind up getting you labled as a LID, if not fined!)
    Of course, unless you were doing deep space communications, no one in their right mind would use 1.5 KW, especially when a 22 dBi gain antenna would boost that to an ERP of 384 KW. No, 10-20 watts would be more than anyone should normally need at those frequencies.
    However, even reasonable wattage HSMM (or even SSB, FM, PSK31 or what have not) ham equipment could spell doom for any nearby flying craft here, so they (professional moddlers) tend to avoid doing command and control over the 13 centimeter band, at least that is what I've heard. Some even go further, get their amateur license, and there are tons of frequencies, at much higher power, that are available to them for command and control. Not only that, but by gentleman's agreement (bandplan), there would be no hams using those frequencies, unless it were to fly. More data here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-speed_multimedia_radio

    30 yrs ago I met my wife, it turned out her father was a RC modeller, he used to build his planes & repair his own controllers. He was pretty good to the point, he was the go to guy when new comers needed tuition? He would fly over any Council run fairs in the town & do shows & the highlight was dropping sweets from the RCM for the kids. He said he had individuals, even then who would try to sabotage his hobby by interfering with the frequency & cause the RCM to go out of control! Digressing a little. I used to ride MTB & on a ride I ended up in a wood in Pudsey near Leads, pleasantly riding through the wood, never straying off the paths, then we turned to a steep dip in the path, luckily nobody got injured! At the bottom of the slope between 2 trees either side of the path was a boulder rolled in the centre of the path & a rope around both trees, designed to injure & a sign in front of the boulder stating "Friends of Pudsey wood". Spoilers only care about their own selfish needs?

    I am staggered that a group of so called "grown ups" who fly toy planes can take it way too serious. In an already over regulated world we have these "grown men" who are acting so childishly and killing the hobby for many... Bruce you should just fly your planes mate. How many people have we all met who won't join a club because of the complete 'BS' and rubbish that goes on from the "power chiefs" in these clubs. Mini-dictators who think their way is the only way. Start your own club Bruce, the authorities would be foolish to "block you" or they may find they breach some 'discrimination' laws'. NZ could do with a club that offers free Membership (just user pays insurance). Sure there will be a farmer or private land owner who would grant permission to a responsible chap/group to fly some model planes. You need to take it to the Transport Minsister and get some adult sense into this argument.

    Hi from Denver, Colorado I am a commercial, multiengine, instrument rated pilot and currently fly as an aerial survey pilot inspecting oil and gas pipelines. I also am very involved in the model community I love flying helicopters mostly. I just wanted to say I love your videos and am blown away with your knowledge and experience! Certainly am always learning and appreciate all your effort. Good luck with your traffic collision avoidance work on 2.4ghz! I am sure you know this but we are now requires in America to use ADS-B in general aviation and commercial aviation in all airspace through out America. I'm sorry to hear that new zealand wont let you fly I think that is BS 73 KCOSUM is my ham radio license call see ya here!

    I believe the kids were probably intimidated by your experience and expertise when you confronted them. To privately save face and feel empowered, the only thing they can do is then to backstab. Younger generations of today are much worse in handling confrontation and conflict IMHO. I've seen failing social skills upfront on display so many times. It shouldn't bother you.

    Iv'e had enough of some of the idiots in NZ too. I was flying my glider at the park when some old guy came to me and said that by flying in the park I was endangering people life's. He explained that I was breaking the law because it was too big to fly there and might hurt someone. Anyway, I landed and moved to another area to get away from him.
    A few minutes later I was greeted by him again this time he was really angry and I explained to him that if he just let me land I would talk to him. With that he grabbed the controller off me, smashing my glider into the ground, snapping the wing and totalling the fuselage. As if a piece of lightweight foam which I was in total control of was a risk to anyone before he intervened. I was pretty mad just seeing my new glider totalled and told him to f#@K off before gathering up my broken parts leaving the park.
    Later I did check with the counsel to see if I was breaking any of these laws he talked about earlier, anyway they said that as long as I was not flying anything bigger that 2m and under a certain weight I was fine. I was totally compliant.
    I don't fly there any more. Which is a shame, because it was a really nice place, however assholes like these have to wreck it for everyone. I really wish that people were more understanding and tolerant of these things. I wasn't doing anything wrong, no one was in danger.

      I flew 8 to 10+ft wingspan gliders at Sunset Beach in Hawaii for almost 40 years and many other Beaches on the Islands. The life guards that control the beaches knew I had better control of the glider than most tourists have walking in the sand. And never once did anyone ever complain they just took a lot of pictures and years a latter a lot of videos. I've let kids catch my Oly2 while their parents took their picture. But that's onshore beach air and it's doesn't get much better than that. And most people know better than to grab something that belongs to me or learn the hard way that's not the right thing to do. But some things take time to sink in.... Sorry about your glider. Sorry to hear what NZ is turning into.

      Mr Rex Kenny, who seems to be MFNZ's proxy within the ranks of CAA has clearly informed me that "under no circumstances will CAA recognise any other model flying organisation than MFNZ, regardless of how many members it has".
      That is just another reason why, in my honest opinion, there is a very unhealthy relationship between MFNZ and certain persons within CAA and that is a situation that ought not be tolerated. When a single organisation is given a monopoly over who can fly at or within 4Km of an airfield, they should be required (as a condition of that monopoly) to accept the membership of anyone who applies - or you end up with the type of abuse of power that I am being subjected to.

I was thrown out of court with the association foot the bill and the Judge recommended they have their association registration removed. And then he went to another RC group and threatened to try to get their licenses suspended too, so they called the cops on him.
      And so he makes a video and explains it all. It is very useful to learn how to translate Passive-Aggressive-Excuse-Whining into English in these situations, you can often piece together a fairly accurate sequence of events even just from the one side of the story. ;)

      Obviously this man is a trouble maker, but this should have no impact on his license unless the trouble he makes is against the laws. Thus, clearly there is a power of tyranny exposed in this situation if we rest this conclusion on what is said in this video. Funny how you could come to a false conclusion when the correct one was so simple to figure out. Maybe you're just helplessly stupid and a chicken shit and used to go with the stream. The pattern of your reasoning unfold this must be the case. The problem is that *I* don't want to be responsible for any crashes or (heaven forbid) anyone getting injured or killed as a result of these people's failure to fully understand the technology (as witnessed by the jet in the pine-tree). It was a courtesy to alert them to the facts -- but one which they chose to turn around and treat as a threat.
      If I hadn't advised them of the increased noise floor and half a dozen poorly set-up models had crashed then guess who'd be copping the blame? After all, there will shortly be a new cluster of antennas on the workshop roof and naturally they'd claim that I'd shot them down on purpose if I hadn't "done the right thing" as I did.

      i'm not shur about the high end hobby stuff. but i know there are a lot of models avilable in stores ready to fly. i think for the larger stuff you still need at least AMA, (insurance plan) and optional club membership to use an airfield.

    • @theflashturtle29

      danz409 no they just want you to think that you can fly almost any model with out one cops think it is "illegal" no matter what but that's because they are power hogs.

    Hi Bruce. Sorry to hear that you are having trouble with the MFNZ people. It's the same over here in blighty with the BMFA, seems to be run by a bunch of self serving back slappers! I don't think they appreciat just how much how much damage they are doing to their own reputation AND model flying over in your part of the world. Given the following you have, the negative repercussions will come back to them for years. My advice would be to get in touch with one of your modelling mags with a letter

    I am a new subscriber and have only watched a few of your videos. This whole mess reminds me of my uncle's experience dealing with his local club. He ended up having to leave the club and start his own because of his son's mental disability and the way the club was treating them because of it. They pulled similar crap on him when he was considering running his own club and runway. It definitely changed the way I looked at clubs when I was old enough to really grasped what had happened.
    Best thing about it, my cousin is a better rc pilot than I am and they still run a field that is better in a lot of ways than they were flying out of, paying less overall and actually having FUN with their hobby. (this is in Ontario Canada fyi)

    • @xjet
      @xjet 10 років тому

      You can't. MFNZ has its agenda and nothing will sway it from that path. No amount of damage to the hobby and the reputation of the organisation itself will come in the way of a few grumpy old men exercising their power to stick it to someone (myself) who critcised them and called them names.

    • @barryjreid
      @barryjreid 10 років тому

      Go change your name legally and then apply again through the normal channels. Once you have the paper saying you a member then just start flying again and let that be the last word... who would ever know.

      This just really gets to me, If they just listen to what you have to say they could improve the way their organisation was run. If they just embrace you instead of pushing you away they could use you as such a great ambassador for the hobby. Problem is its too man old farts not willing to accept change. These people need to realise that the hobby is changing and if they don't keep up they will be left behind and the hobby will die with them.

      The AMA is not much better. They have become increasingly politicized, and made the fatal error of agreeing to negotiate with the FAA / govt mobsters many years ago.
      You don't negotiate with with politicians and bureaucrats. These people are sociopaths, and negotiating with them just encourages them.
      Best to ignore them... Do what you want, but try to avoid confrontational situations. As far as I'm concerned the AMA, MFNZ, nor any similar organization really sends the correct message to the crony mobster bureaucrats.

    Hello , I live in the U.S.A. and I can hardly find a park to fly in ! I have people come up to me that live next to these parks and threaten to call the police if I fly over their homes ! I'm in the park and only fly there only when it is safe to do so. I've have a feeling it's all the pot people grow now that it's legal to do so here in California. I can smell that stuff all over the place ! I can guess why they don't want me anywhere near their homes . But when you have someone pull up in their car glassy eyed and smelling like pot telling me their going to call the cops it makes me MAD AS HELL!!( DUI ) I'm sorry to say this but this country's going to POT ! Pretty soon people won't have the IQ to tie their shoes. Man I miss the 50's !

    you should never give anyone a warning for any reason. No one will ever willingly change their behavior to suit another person. They will, rather, be annoyed at the idea you would expect them to change and lash out at you. Especially when dealing with something technical, that a local PD officer has no ability or desire to understand, the person giving a warning must feel they are doing something wrong, and thus be at fault. Conversely, if you did not give a warning and one of their planes crashed, they would be crazy people yelling about nonsense, and by simply feigning ignorance "no idea what they're talking about they just started yelling at me because they crashed their own device and filed a false police report to trick you into supporting them." is the only way to deal with any situation involving technical knowledge. Some kid in texas got arrested for a silly engineering project. People are ignorant, petulant assholes who despise nothing more than someone who thinks they are smarter than them.

      Sounds like the old "Easier to ask for forgiveness than get permission", always a good policy when the stakes aren't too high -- like Homeowner's Associations.
      Like a guy near my neighborhood who asked for permission to make an apartment for his mom in an existing building on his farm -- the local authorities said no. He could have just done it, and she could have lived there for the rest of her life without them being aware he'd done it. They punished him for being a good citizen trying to meet the letter of the law.

    I know why these guys are doing that to you. The text is big but it is a nice reading :
    " The firefly was always happy flying around, he was friendly and smart but the snake was always trying to bite him.
    One day the firefly decided to talk to the snake, and asked her:
    _ I never did anything bad for you, so why do you always try to knock me down ?
    The snake said:
    _ It is just because your brightness irritates me ! "
    So, that is the reason my friend.
    Those guys are just snakes :-)
    Your videos are great !
