- This video contains two matches I had with the recently released Freedom Gundam on the Steam version of Gundam Battle Operation 2. It is a 700 cost general with excellent stagger ability, great mid-range DPS, great aerial mobility, two easy to use melee weapons with pretty good damage, a touchpad activated HiMAT mode which grants infinite thrust and better mobility for 40 seconds, a full burst attack exclusive to HiMAT mode which can deal ludicrous damage alongside the suit itself being very small for 700 cost. Its weaknesses would be that it only has 19000 HP, that it has relatively slow boosting speed before HiMAT mode is activated and that it loses the railguns and beam cannons for 90 seconds after the HiMAT mode timer expires. Getting this suit in GBO2 was a huge surprise, I don't think that anybody ever seriously expected AU MS to come to the game, despite it being Steam exclusive at the moment. Before you watch, I should explain why I am fighting in a low rating bracket. I prepared 7 steam accounts ahead of time to increase my chances of getting the Freedom Gundam, but didn't have the time to appropriately rank them up. Fortunately, most of the players in this match seemed like they had some console experience, so it should serve as a good showcase. I hope that you enjoy watching!
Its primary ranged weapon is a lupus beam rifle with 2800 power, 3 seconds cooldown, 85% heat, 15 seconds overheat, 0.77 seconds swap time, 400m range and 20% stagger value. This has decent damage and instant staggers, but has somewhat high heat.
Its primary melee weapon is a lacerta beam saber with 2800 power, 2.5 seconds cooldown, 0.5 seconds swap time and standard modifiers. This doesn't have outstanding damage output or anything, but the downswing is easy to connect with and can also be used mid-air.
Its first sub weapon is a CIWS vulcan gun with 110 power, 60 ammo, 512 RPM, 10 seconds reload, 0.5 seconds swap time, 150m range, 939 DPS and 6% stagger value. This has decent DPS and can stagger in about 2 seconds, making it useful to use when other weapons are reloading.
Its second sub weapon is a double lacerta beam saber with 3000 power, 2.5 seconds cooldown, 0.77 seconds swap time, 80%x2 downswing modifier and 70% combo modifier. This has great damage and a long range downswing, but the length of the animation means that you cannot start and end triple downswing combos with it.
Its third sub weapon is a double xyphias railgun with 1400x2 power, 8 ammo, 6 seconds cooldown, 15 seconds reload, 0.5 seconds swap time, 500m range and 10%x2 stagger value. This stops to fire but fires two piercing instant stagger projectiles. It is a useful combo tool.
Its fourth sub weapon is a double balaena plasma cannon with 1000x2x4 (800x5x3) power, 100% heat, 30 (15) seconds overheat, 0.5 seconds swap time, 450m range, 4 (1) seconds focus time and 20%x2x4 (10%x5x3) stagger value. These can charge and stop to fire to shoot a pair of instant stagger beams with incredible power. In HiMAT mode you can charge this weapon to use the very powerful full burst attack.
The Freedom Gundam has 19000 HP, 29 ballistic/beam resist and 20 melee resist. This is quite poor durability, good supports will melt you quickly if given the chance. It has LV3 Emergency Evasion, LV1 Maneuver Armor and LV1 Phase Shift Armor (reduces incoming ballistic stagger value and damage by 15%) for defensive skills.
In terms of mobility it has 135 walk speed, 220 boosting speed, 75 thrust and 81 turning speed. This is pretty good mobility on paper but it the boosting speed isn't the fastest. It makes up for it with skills like LV1 Flap Booster, LV3 Flight Control, LV4 Forced Injector and LV1 HiMAT Mode. I have ran out of space to include more information, so the rest will be in a pinned comment.
Overall I feel like the Freedom Gundam will be an excellent choice for an all rounder 700 cost general. It has the tools for basically every situation, and it doesn't really have any really bad match-ups except for supports of course. You should be able to do pretty well by ignoring HiMAT mode and focus on cycling your ranged weapons and using melee where possible. HiMAT mode is where the suit really gets tricky though, it is obviously insanely powerful while this mode is active, but it becomes a very weak suit for 90 seconds after the timer expires. So using it at a poor time only to end up surviving will leave you ineffective for much of the match. Otherwise, that should be about it. I can definitely recommend rolling on the Freedom Gundam if you have the tokens for it, as well as voting for it to come to console via the recent survey from Bandai. Thanks for watching!

HiMAT mode grants infinite thrust, extra boost speed, extra turning speed, special touchpad resist mode while holding the beam rifle and access to the full burst attack for 40 seconds. Using tackles or regular dodge rolls takes 10 seconds off the timer, once it expires your thrusters are overheated, you go through a recoil animation and you lose your railguns+beam cannons for 90 seconds.
It also has the boost cooling skill from Dijeh Traversia, your beam weapons take 20% less time to cool and 50% less time to overheat while boosting.

You can fire Full burst up to 4 times too if you take advantage of the thurst based cooling system and fire them off quickly. You could probably pull off at least 3 of them in the heat of battle if you do decide to make full use of range damage in HiMAT.
Otherwise, HiMAT is also a good tool if you are going to go melee heavy as the infinite boost, flap booster and high level force injectors allow you to pull off insane melee combos. HiMAT in principle works like the EX-Boost lvl 3.
Overall, the Freedom Gundam basically plays like a 700 cost S-Gundam with extra.

@@stringer2998 Well, if I'm to be completely honest, at the time I was helping one of my friends deal with his penalties so that he could finally color his MS, since his internet was complete trash.
I myself am an A+, almost S- player, and when Freedom was released, A LOT of D was Console players coming to PC, so it felt normal to me, though there were matches where I felt like I was smurfing.
I was expecting purple freedom, not Rouge Freedom Gundam.

The ready time for the weapons is great. I've only played on console so I don't know of any difference other than missing out on this for now. Love your videos though. Shows how far I still need to go to get all the suits down correctly.

And i thought the freedom isnt very good. Guess it just comes down to my builds for freedom. Couldn't dind any videos on youtube given it freshly dropped on PC so i had a hard time finding reference for a build. I thank you for uploading this for both build and gameplay reference.
I forgot to mention:
I wish they gave freedom the option of the double ended Saber config rather than dual wield. It's already dual wielding in the counter and referencing it's famous technique, but perhaps they're saving that for justice.
Yk they balanced this suit pretty well, High damage potential but huge glass canon. Very surprised they didn’t make it busted
I love the sound effect on Freedom, its perfectly well done in this. Also it seems pretty balance imo compared to some 700 UC suits, seems like I can rest my thoughts of release of AU units will break the game balance like MSGO years ago
I think they made Freedom fit pretty well into GBO2's mechanics. I really don't mind non-UC suits in the game, but I still want UC to be the main focus. Love all the weird and buried suits that UC offers. I hope they start having all versions of the game line up so that no one's missing out on any content and we can all be on the same page
Agree when first heared they were adding the Freedom i was thinking this is the end. But they did a pretty good job treating it like a UC while still giving it what makes it the Freedom. Hope ps version will get them soon cuz this opens the door to a lot of cool stuff in the future if they spread it beyond just the Freedom

At this moment, this is steam exclusive, due to many player voted in the survey that PS ver stays UC only and Steam ver include non UC.
As of today, the xi Gundam has released and it is the first 5 star mobile suit. Good luck pulling it

Now that most players got a taste for what the AUs xan do, I'd expect the surveys to favor AU more for console. But the UC purists fund a way to milk their unsecured oyw ms into the game. I could see f91 being a good candidate but other than that we NEED AUs
I think what's neat about Freedom is that not only is it well balanced for the cost, it genuinely feels like it shakes up 700 cost a bit.
It's a very small and mobile and can do work at any range in a cost full of giants that do a lot of their best tricks up close.
There were few things more cathartic to me than staring up at a Sinanju Stein and telling it to kneel.
I feel like the Freedom is also used by the devs to test the water for introducing the F91(and beyond) era of high speed, high firepower, yet small(even smaller than Freedom) mobile suits and see how to balance those things
The most surprising thing here to me is that they gave a 700 suit a 150m vulcan.

if i'd want any AU suits, it'd be the generic grunt suits from SEED, SEED DESTINY, and maybe Wing. cause the gundams in SEED are blatently kinda, overpowered? to say.

Again just like in the last vid I watched of someone using this suit: it's not as dominating as everyone was making it out to be that lies in the skill of the player and the team. And the fact that the people you're playing with aren't stun locking or specifically targeting you for being in a non-uc suit

Wish I could get it, being able to fly for longer than other suits in the sky would be heaven for me but I have no luck for a four star and I haven’t been on long enough to have the tokens for the step up

Damn, this suit is so much fun and well balanced surprisingly. I really hate the previous funnels snoozefest meta. But now we got an actual unit which is super agile and actually good!
Do you see it getting a possible buff in the future? I do think while they fairly balanced it, I do wish the bulk is semi-decent at least but I can see why they did, especially with the Himat skill. At least lower the timer to 50 sec after Himat ends instead of 90 sec, give it at least either 20k or 21k HP. As for resistances, they can either increase slots or bump melee to 23, but honestly I rather just HP bulk. I’m waiting to pull on it next week for monthly reset but not sure if it’s worth it. I just want to collect the suit as oppose of needing a good 700, I have plenty already like Hi-Nu, Sinanju, Sazabi, and Unicorn for generals. I seem to suck with 700 native gens but can do decent with the Stein but that suit is pretty easy to use. I don’t do 700 that much but I am going to pull for Norn when it comes out on PC.
I think the only buff that it maybe needs is the HiMAT mode debuff after it ends, otherwise it feels kinda strong. Like 60 seconds rather than 90 might be fair.
19000 HP is low but you are the smallest 700 coster, so it kinda evens out if you consider the shots you will avoid because of it.

I like this suit cause it feels fast compared to other 700 cost generals. Plus I’m impressed by the sound effects, from what I can tell most of them are straight for SEED with some having creative liberties.

Fittingly for the source material I think, Freedom is low on gimmicks, but high on power and versatility, which is what helps it survive in 700 despite its lack of funnels or space magic.

They need to lower the distance traveled on the down swing. I swear I'm getting knocked over by teammates more than the enemy.
the down swings is pretty much just S gundam reused if u know how to fight that thing then this will be like that.

Wonder the size of Freedom compared to UC MS
Freedom is roughly 18 meters so its fairly standard for early-mid 80s MS. The backpack ofc is big compared to alot of MS.
Compared to big giants from the Gryps war era and beyond the Freedom is still on the small size even with the wings.
in game size is around the same size as Early UC Suits (Ex: RX-78-2)
so yeah, its very SMALL for 700 cost that is FILLED with a LOT of GIANTS

It does look like a fun suit (at least more balanced than Norn atm), but not enough for me to go out and start a new GBO2 account on steam after I put so much time and money into Playstation. I wonder if the matchmaking issues I heard about got worked on over the months the port’s been out.
Also, since Bandai suddenly remembered STEAM exists, i wish they could also give in some actual effort into fixing STEAM port. I really crave good gundam games and only got PC to play GBO2 everyday but DAYUM SON STEAM GBO2 IS BARELY PLAYABLE TO THE POINT IT'S RAGE-INDUCING
I know Bandai isn't fond of western market specially in Gundam department and PC is by far not as big as A gaming platform in Japan but please Bandai, this port was one of the most half-arsed stuff from a company already infamous for half-arsing stuff in chase of profit

Uc fanboys are blowing this things power out of proportion its actually pretty balanced compared to some other suits we have uc purists tend to forget that uc suits are barely even realistic
Gundam as a whole is unrealistic. They should’ve just brought back GBO Next rather than just throwing au units in regular GBO. Besides, the pc version still runs like crap. I’d rather the game not get ANY content for several months to get some much needed fixes. Steam reviews speak for themselves.

I’m pretty ticked it only came to PC. Console player base has been around way longer.
There was a survey back in October asking players on both platforms if they wanted AU or UC suits. PS players wanted UC and steam players wanted non-UC, simple as that.
Got actually surprised Bandai managed to balance A.U. suits into this game (way better than Norm actually). For a moment i was worried A.U. stuff woulldn't translate well into GBO2 gameplay or accurate representations of some suits would get too overpowered but they managed quite well. Maybe they're saving the busted up game breaker stuff to Strike Freedom?
Anyways Bandai will hit jackpot in token money if they keep this up, think about Strike Gundam or similar striker pack suits variantions they can keep releasing and people will spend to get

The limited banner ends on the 1st of Feb but the 7 stage step up goes on until the 8th of Feb. It is PC only for the moment though, maybe save up your tokens if they decide to release it on console.

I’ll voted against happiness in the consul version because I’m not trying to turn this game into another Gundam battle operations next because that game was a clown show I want obscure UC content I can’t stand to watch anything or play anything that’s not universal century I just can’t help it. I’m not that kind of fan, don’t get me wrong. I think all robots are cool but if it’s not part of the timeline it’s irrelevant to me.

@@charazanble1439 No offense but Freedom is the most disgusting thing in steam right now. It chews anything on its path not to mention the himat mode makes it the most annoying thing since it has no gauge meter and could fly anywhere which makes it very annoying to deal with. It can even outgun supports save only those who are 4 star. It Chews generals and Raids for breakfast.
I can fight the freedom in a Zeta Plus C1. It's really not the boogeyman you claim it is. There are arguably worse things to deal with in 700 cost like the FF Sazabi who is a tanky support with large funnels that can decimate you from a position of safety, without much effort required.
The Hi Nu who can also use Flap Booster (which I don't ever see anyone do)
Rush formation funnels that can chunk your health
The FF Nu who can fire its bazooka while boosting, has heavy attack, probably some of the best melee damage in the game and the powerful Long Range Fin Funnel.
You always have the option to not play 700 cost if the Freedom is as insurmountable as you believe.

Nu Gundam post-buff on PSN is still quite competitive. It's just not Norn.
Nu Gundam will have better stagger accumulation and maybe better midrange DPS overall. So I think it will still have a place.

Personal pref, if you enjoy generals more, go for freedom, if you like supports go for rozen.
Both suits fit fine in the meta, but rozen has to deal with some nasty raids at 700.
If anything you could at least play Hamma Hamma at 600 to see if you like it, cause it gives you an idea of what rozen would be like.

I had to make a few alt accounts on Steam so I could get the suit, so unfortunately I could not rank them up in time. Thankfully most of the players in the matches I played seemed to be people from console, so the matches were fair enough.
