My "single picker" sense is wrong so often I should have given up...not just with AJ, but with some of the other artists that I follow...but, my latest #1 pick is the jazzy version of Bad Valentine. When I first listened to it I think I nearly stopped breathing and then noticed an increased heart rate as I really got into it, and having nearly 80 years, that's not stuff I should be doing to myself. 😅 But she's that good as is that soon to be #1 hit. 😉

I didn't get all the lyrics (waiting anxiously for them to be released) but, as you implied, this is worthy to be at the top of every chart out there. But then, we have said that about her before: most notably about EVERY song on her EP and, even more emphatically, about "Bad Valentine". So we will continue to purchase everything she releases, share everything she puts out to everyone we know (my friends and family must be fed up with me by now...I don't care), stream everything that's streamable and hope that the rest of the world will very soon come to see that Angelina Jordan is the miracle that has been missing from their lives.

This could definitely perk up ears if it could make it to radios/streams. As you know, I was there and got to hear her talk prior to the song, pushing past her shyness when not singing. Imagine how many new hits there could be if artists were to connect their personal words and emotions to their musical creations. Great to see your concert reactions at last. Back in the 50-60’s Harry Belafonte brought Calypso style music with a hit song called Day-O. To me it has morphed into this island style of music.
Such a great concert. I was sad to hear Angelina speak so often about a tough emotional period she went through, but her mom, Sara, confirmed it was due to Sara divorcing Gerald Slattman. Angelina is a master of putting a positive spin on a negative situation. I was blown away hearing Angelina sing reggae and no doubt, at future concerts, angels will be dancing to this song. The reggae feel is pretty different. I'd like to hear you sing it, Nina, because I think one of the marks of a great song is that it's cover-friendly. As for great Angelina performances, I'd have to say that the torchy, more complex version of Bad Valentine from Toby Gad's Piano Diaries is the most nuanced and most perfectly Angelina performance I've heard since I Put A Spell On You. Highly recommended.

For those who don't live in California, Glendale is not L.A., it's its own city outside of L.A. city. It does reside within L.A. County as do many other cities. L.A. and Glendale are very different in community and culture from each other. I lived for many years just blocks away from the Alex Theater.
Completely -- completely -- agree with you, Nina. I think this track has even more hit potential than "Bad Valentine". It's Adele meets Bob Marley. Imagine the studio version. The key changes and complexity are fabulous. We need steel drums!

She really needs to hire a sound system pro from Norway to set up the stage for her concerts. The sound quality of her Norway concerts over all others is very noticeable.
Apparently when the divorce happened Gerry decided to break off his relationship with Angelina, and this was terribly painful to her because they had been so close. But as time went on she realized that actually the whole relationship had been bad for her, tearing down her self-esteem, and she grew and learned to love herself.

@@keithserafy I wasn't at the concert, so I am just talking from what others who were there have said. As to whether or not Gerry is her biological father, I have no idea. A while back I read someone, I think it was Donald LaCont, say say Sara is working on a book, so maybe we will eventually learn about this and much else.
I can't wait to hear a studio recording of this one, and I agree, this could be her breakout song. Or the jazzy version of Bad Valentine, but usually a more uptempo song would be the big single. I'm not a good judge, though, as everything I hear Angelina do knocks my socks off.

Hello Nina, you are 100% right about your thoughts about this song being a hit! I keep looking for you to do a follow up reaction to her song “Bad Valentine (piano diaries)” on Toby Gab’s UA-cam channel! This “Jazz version” is a whole different song than what you reacted to. The version you reacted to she wrote Toby and how she recorded it at 16… her 18 year old “piano diaries“ version is a level of jazz I had never heard. You’ll feel the emotion she’s going through as she reaches the conclusion she needs to break it off, and hear the anguish in her voice. At times, it almost sounds as if she’s crying, knowing it’s over and because she knows ending it will “tear up his heart.” I always enjoy your insight on how she does what she does, and watching how much you enjoy her performances.

I have been to many of his concerts in the nineties And early 2000s, sometimes just him playing Guitar or piano, sometimes with a full band! He unfortunately passed away from cancer at 56 in 2007! Such a great concert. I was sad to hear Angelina speak so often about a tough emotional period she went through, but her mom, Sara, confirmed it was due to Sara divorcing Gerald Slattman. Angelina is a master of putting a positive spin on a negative situation. I was blown away hearing Angelina sing reggae and no doubt, at future concerts, angels will be dancing to this song. PLEASE read the best guess at the lyrics, in the comments posted by Robert Biron.
I immediately thought when I heard this for the first time that this is the one to breakthrough. We will have to see as Bad Valentine is slowly gaining traction.

The reggae feel is pretty different. I'd like to hear you sing it, Nina, because I think one of the marks of a great song is that it's cover-friendly. As for great Angelina performances, I'd have to say that the torchy, more complex version of Bad Valentine from Toby Gad's Piano Diaries is the most nuanced and most perfectly Angelina performance I've heard since I Put A Spell On You. Highly recommended.

For those who don't live in California, Glendale is not L.A., it's its own city outside of L.A. city. It does reside within L.A. County as do many other cities. L.A. and Glendale are very different in community and culture from each other. I lived for many years just blocks away from the Alex Theater.
Completely -- completely -- agree with you, Nina. I think this track has even more hit potential than "Bad Valentine". It's Adele meets Bob Marley. Imagine the studio version. The key changes and complexity are fabulous. We need steel drums!

Apparently when the divorce happened Gerry decided to break off his relationship with Angelina, and this was terribly painful to her because they had been so close. But as time went on she realized that actually the whole relationship had been bad for her, tearing down her self-esteem, and she grew and learned to love herself.

@@keithserafy I wasn't at the concert, so I am just talking from what others who were there have said. As to whether or not Gerry is her biological father, I have no idea. A while back I read someone, I think it was Donald LaCont, say say Sara is working on a book, so maybe we will eventually learn about this and much else.
I can't wait to hear a studio recording of this one, and I agree, this could be her breakout song. Or the jazzy version of Bad Valentine, but usually a more uptempo song would be the big single. I'm not a good judge, though, as everything I hear Angelina do knocks my socks off.

Hello Nina, you are 100% right about your thoughts about this song being a hit! I keep looking for you to do a follow up reaction to her song “Bad Valentine (piano diaries)” on Toby Gab’s UA-cam channel! This “Jazz version” is a whole different song than what you reacted to. The version you reacted to she wrote Toby and how she recorded it at 16… her 18 year old “piano diaries“ version is a level of jazz I had never heard. You’ll feel the emotion she’s going through as she reaches the conclusion she needs to break it off, and hear the anguish in her voice. At times, it almost sounds as if she’s crying, knowing it’s over and because she knows ending it will “tear up his heart.” I always enjoy your insight on how she does what she does, and watching how much you enjoy her performances.

I have been to many of his concerts in the nineties And early 2000s, sometimes just him playing Guitar or piano, sometimes with a full band! He unfortunately passed away from cancer at 56 in 2007! Before he died he released a 4 CD set of his original music! Just thought you would enjoy his music and songwriting! Here he wrote a song about his dad who was a high school music teacher!
