- igottadrive.com - driving tip on how to properly back around a corner. This should be covered in both online drivers ed and behind the wheel driver training. Utilizing the proper setup and a good reference point can make it easy to perform a backing maneuver around a corner that is both quick and legal. Teens taking online drivers ed can benefit from watching driving tip videos from igottadrive.com such as this to prepare them for on the road driving.
driving instructors: "6 inches" "7 feet" "18 inches" "3 feet"
me while practicing parking: *whips out a ruler*
HE WAS MY DRIVING TEACHER IN DRIVERS ED!
this is the only thing i’m worried for for the drivers test
Same😭 how’d yours go?
@@Brayd.1986 how’d it go

Getting a license in washington is a fucking nightmare.
Thank you! I'm 19 and have my drive test Wednesday. I learned how to do this in drivers ed but I forgot and my mom didn't know how. Also, just a note, how close you stay to the curb is different in other states. In WA, it's 12 inches.
+Bethany Brown I just failed my test today (because I didn't do this correctly), and the instructor said 18 inches. Did it change recently?
blueshogun96 it depends on your state. In mine, it's 12 inches.
Bethany Brown I'm also in WA, but I just heard differently though. But it's not the first time I've been told something different. I'll just be glad if I pass the darn test tomorrow :)
+Bethany Brown In Washington and going to 911 Driving School Puyallup. It's 18. 12 is for parking, for the most part.
Finn Payton hmm. Well I was taught 12 but I passed so it's cool.
I live in Bremerton, Washington and this is how I taught my son, but when he did it on his test, he failed. The instructor wanted him to use just his mirrors. WT Flagnog? Now they want him to sit through an 80 dollar class just prior to his equally spends drivers test! This system is corrupt!!
I live in Bremerton as well!
I live in the Sammamish area and failed my first test because of this. I went right from the driving school to backing around a corner without any time before hand to get comfortable on the road. The instructor had me back around a CURVE not even a corner, and on a street with a super short soft curb. One of the wheels brushed against the slope of the curb and then went off. She took me back to the driving school and told me I failed and I am a "danger behind the wheel." I didn't even get to finish my test. Gotta take it tomorrow and praying I have a different instructor.
Avery Taylor How’d it go?
Glad the video helped. Backing around a corner is a tricky maneuver that definitely requires practice and some technique. And I agree that its best to master this on a flat road then go for the hills.
I passed my driving test Sept 03,2013 i keep on watching this video its help me to pass yehey!!!!!!
This is like the only video that I've watched that made sense! Thanks for the tips, I have my driving test tomorrow so I need to practice this more :)
did he just pull his hand break before he began? xD
Thank you. This is the best backing around the corner video I have seen. Makes a lot of sense. I will practice this tomorrow. Thank you so much
literally the only helpful video on how to do this
Thanks for watching the video and providing feedback. I agree that there are many different types of corners and some, such as very sharp corners, require varying the technique. Maybe we need a follow-on video with a couple of more extreme corners...
This will help beyond a doubt once I go for my road test after driver's ed, all of these videos help so much.
Thanks so much! The best I have seen so far, very timely, step by step, very new driver friendly 👆 .
Good luck on your test and keep us posted on how well you did.
Thanks! Needed a refresher for my drivers test in two days!
The reference point is defined at 01:34. It is the point at which the rear window meets the curb in the first part of the backing maneuver.
igottadrivecom I'm not able to see the curb through the rear window. what am I supposed to do?
16 year old here 👋
I put off my test for so long but now it is tmrw. Just wanted to cram before hand so thank u
This helped me alot. Its best to practice on a non hill surface. I learned the hard way XP
Am I always suppose to pull the hand break before I back up in to oncoming traffic?
Thanks for the kind words. Please check out our other videos as well. We are continuing to build our library over time.
thanks for the uploads very usefull especially for first timers. make more if you could ..
taking my drive test today, only thing i'm worried about is the little things like making sure your tires have air, license plate is on, nothing blocking the rear windshield, if i'm allowed to re adjust myself when pulling into a parking spot or backing into one. but i think i got this
You're welcome. Good luck on the test and let us know how you do.
Many of these are situational. For example, the U-turns can be either depending on how they are marked. Backing around a corner is OK when done properly, with a full stop, proper signalling, etc. It is never legal to back-up on a 4 lane and other situations that are inherently dangerous.
This is the part that made me fail today. Would've been easier if the instructor wasn't so damn mean
Thanks - we appreciate the positive comment. Please pass us along to your friends and also if you get a chance, visit our blog.
My test tomorrow thanku very much
hopefully this will help me pass my drive test tomorrow :)
You're welcome! Let us know how your practice goes.
I like to speed you should make a video on speeding...
taahir boyd LMAOOOO
My first try i forgot my permit this time the only thing i lost pts on was this maneuver despite practicing it 4 hrs before the exam and getting it down doing it 10x successfull i stressed and messed up on the backing maneuver still passed
having my driving test this saturday , this part of the test is really hard for me i always hit the curb ):
There is a big difference between driving fast and speeding - and there is an appropriate place for driving fast. If you want to drive fast, go to a race track. You will find out very quickly why people shouldn't be driving fast on the street as they don't have the appropriate skills and it is a dangerous situation. It's interesting to watch people who think they can drive well when they get on a race track...
how many points is this worth in the skills test?
Thanks for uploading,very helpful
I do not agree with this method...I work for a private driving school in northern Illinois. My students love my method, but, it takes practice to master... it's the hardest maneuver to learn, but once you get it, you get it! When it looks like the back of the car is even with the curb that you backing up around you are actually about 7 feet from the curb. It is and illusion because you are looking at it from the inside of the car. This is when you should... (1) turn the wheel quickly to the RIGHT to start getting around the curb. At this point you want to... (2) start looking FORWARD down the lane you are backing up into while slowly turning the wheel to the left. This is where the difference comes in. The wider the street the more you turn the wheel to the left. (3) when you are just about parallel to the lane you are backing up into turn the wheel a little bit harder to the left just enough to go straight back. Just remember, do not turn the wheel any further to the left than to go back straight because you will start drifting to the left. Back up a couple of car lengths so the examiner can see you're backing up ability. Good luck! You can do it! Cathy 🚙
I'm not what you mean by "s type shape". Can you elaborate?
I've learnt this but with vehicles with terrible field of vision
This is by far the stupidest thing to learn smh
Looks like a good channel.
Keep working on those markers and review the video a few times prior to the test. Also, don't forget to watch the preparation video...
Good luck and keep us posted on how you do.
I failed this 2 years ago 😡
Did u finally pass? Im fu… depressed i swear…
Is backing around a corner actually legal? Just wondering because in a lot of places, U-turns are illegal even though many people do them.
How are we supposed to find a reference point on our vehicle?
What about 90 degrees curbs?
what if you get to far away from the curb? ?
thanks
👍
What state makes you take this type of test? I can tell you for sure that i never had to do it.
Washington state
Thank you for the kind words! If you get a chance check out our web site, igottadrive(dot)com, where we have a blog and other information. Passing the word on our videos, web site, etc. would be greatly appreciated as well.

Your're welcome. Our goal is to create a channel and web site that add value to the driving community. Please check us out at igottadrive(dot)com if you get a chance.

This is so easy to do even though it is not needed that much lol
