    so a couple days ago I asked if I would be able to start skating even though I'm 13, you guys said yes ! I brought it up to my parents and they bought me skating lessons and my first practice is this Monday, I'm super nervous so I was wondering if y'all had any tips? ❤ love you guys and thanks so much
    edit: thank you everyone for the love!! I've been skating for 4 weeks now and I can skate, spin, glide, swizzle, and lunge !!! ❤

      Bend the knees! Try to do everything off ice first and then try it on ice, it will be different but it will help with remembering the movements

    • @LifeOnThinIce
      @LifeOnThinIce  6 років тому +40

      Don’t be nervous! The great thing about being older is that you will fly through the levels and understand the coaches better! Don’t feel intimidated by the little kids. Everyone has their own goals in this sport and most little kids aren’t motivated enough because their parents signed them up. Having your own motivation to go far in skating will make you a better skater in the end! If you are using rental skates, try to find a pair that have the most hooks on the side. We have brown ones that usually help skaters have more stability compared to our grey ones that have the support of a hockey skate(which is NOTHING) very scary so make sure your ankles feel supported before you step on! Hope classes go great Monday!

      chicken nugget just relax
      I started skating when I was 12 and at the age of 14 with only a year of lessons and I'm amazed at how far I've come with jumps , spirals and spins
      But remember to be patient because is comes with time ❤️
      P.s. You'll get used to falling to the point it no longer hurts

  • @janetslater129
    @janetslater129 6 років тому +7

    Vitamin that I like the best....Vitamin D. We’re often deficient in it, due to shorter days in the winter. I’ve tested a bit low on it, which may have partially caused major muscle and joint stiffness/soreness last winter, and kept me off the ice for about 8 weeks. I don’t care to experience that ever again.

    • @LifeOnThinIce
      @LifeOnThinIce  6 років тому +1

      Wow great info! About to go take Vitamin D now so that doesn’t happen to me!!

    • @janetslater129
      @janetslater129 6 років тому

      @@LifeOnThinIce I would go get tested at a doctor's office first (it's a simple blood test). You doctor would be able to tell you what dose you should take if you are low. Ideally, one's Vitamin D level should be 40, although 30 is considered to be the minimum level of "normal." Thankfully, Vitamin D is easy to get, as it's available at any vitamin section of any store, and it's not super expensive (generally under $10) if you do need it. Plus, consuming foods with Vitamin D in it (like milk) may also help.

    • @LifeOnThinIce
      @LifeOnThinIce  6 років тому

      I’ve been testing by a doctor before and I’m supposed to take vitamin D. Especially since I drink a lot of almond milk and not regular milk. The best thing to do is just take a multivitamin everyday if you know that you aren’t severely deficient in a certain vitamin.

      I did. When it came time to get a new pair everyone was having trouble with the stitching being terrible. The pair that came in for me had hard fabric digging into my toes because they didn’t stitch or cut close enough so it would be seamless. I switched to Risports because they are a sister brand to Edea and aren’t as high in demand as edea is. Everyone in Italy and Russia wear risports instead of edea.

    • @LifeOnThinIce
      @LifeOnThinIce  6 років тому +2

      At some point you’ve got to realize that you are destine to fall at some point. For singles the worst that can happen is you fall on your bottom. You’ve got to realize that most single jumps aren’t even a full rotation around(except for axle). Falling is just part of the process of learning. Trust the technique of your coach and try the correction they make for the jump. The more you try and fully commit, the faster you’ll get the jump. Simple as that. Hope that helped :)

      Every skater must fall. You'll never learn if you don't. This may sound dumb but to help me feel not so scared of falling, I always tell myself that if I fall and die I won't have to take anymore exams and that usually gets me going.

  • @akward__alexis3206

    Hey I started skating ten months ago and I’ve done 1 competition and I got 1st place but now I’m doing jumps and still a little self conscious about falling any tips to make it less “scary” I guess 😂

    • @LifeOnThinIce
      @LifeOnThinIce  6 років тому

      Falling is a part of this sport so at some point you need to learn to accept and be comfortable with that. Which by the way is incredibly difficult even for me because it’s essentially a skill that takes lots of time and confidence. In the meantime, however, it’s always helpful to wear padding. There are butt pads as well as knee and elbow pads! I think the thought of falling is scarier than actually falling. So once you fall, it’s important that you remember that it wasn’t so bad and falling again isn’t gonna kill you.

    Hey Guys! This is important for me and i love if you could give me some feed back! So i really want to figure skate! But theres no where around! No clubs, rinks, or even classes! I practice at Salem on ice.. but they close at the end of the month! Figure skating is really important to me. What can i do? I hope you guys can understand how important this sport is for me and how much i wanna improve! Watching you videos makes me wanna jump on the ice! Thanks ly guys!

      Hi!! I totally understand your love for figure skating! It’s a huge commitment and if you are not able to make it to an ice rink that’s okay. To maintain your skills you need to do off ice exercises which Claire posted a video on and also stretch. If possible, check and see if you have any roller rinks nearby. It’s not exactly like ice skating but it’s pretty close and it can help you keep your skills sharp when the ice is down and you don’t have any other options. I hoped this helped!! ❤️

      No. That’s rare in this sport to become a real “professional”. Some of us may coach though!
