I'm an old yank. I just got home from a 2-day stay in the hospital. 2 days ago, a beautiful young patient assistant, who could have passed as a super model, introduced herself to me as Rowan. In ensuing conversation, she told me she was named after a tree. She had never heard of the song. I told her to find it here. I hope she does. Rowan, if you ever read this, I'll never hear this song again without thinking of your Scottish beauty. Kudos to your parents for naming you perfectly.

Can someone tell me why when I look at pictures of Scotland, I feel like it's home? I've seen pictures from all over the world but when I look at pics from Scotland it's like i've been there. My Great Grandmother was Scottish and I've a long line of U.K. blood. Bagpipes wake up my blood and like a call to arms they feed me, I've never felt this in a sense but have it. You either oove the pipes or you hate them I've learned. Why do I feel so far away from home until I listen or see the things that bring me back?
Canadian born, I'm left wondering why even though I've experienced more than the layman in spiritual things, this still has me perplexed as it's stronger than anythin' else. I find myself when I get into myself bringing up the dialect when I speak but if I didn't would be normal. There is a strong likening to something, something that can't be denied. Would like some comments on what people think about this.

I'm of Clan MacDonald by ancestry that I've been able to trace back to the late 1700s to early 1800s in Lairg Parish, Sutherland Scotland. My ancestors were some of the last to be pushed off their land by the Highland Purges. A few fled to Australia, and the rest immigrated to what is now Ingersoll Canada. From there, they eventually came to the United States. I've never been to Scotland myself, but I'm often moved to tears listening to the sound of bagpipes or viewing pictures of the Highlands. I'm not sure how to explain it either. Perhaps the longing and homesickness for a place we've never been was infused in our blood through the generations. Genetic or ancestral memory, for lack of a better term.

Tormod MacLeod Hi Tormod, your blood is speaking, I'm myself of the lineage of MacAlpine, attested from the 9th century, piper myself and what you feel is the call of father land. Cheers.

Great to hear this as a stand-alone tune and not as part of a medley.

I need to go to Scotland. I might have ancestors from here, but it wouldnt be much (its mainly German).
I just need to see the goddamn Highlands. I love reading about ancient Celts and Gaelic cultures.

Nazis got smashed at D-day to this tune,
Nothing like a man walking into gun fire with nothing but the ancient pipes to carry him,
God bless the great piper that day, he died at peace and carried the great tradition of the war pipes to his grave,
    Makes ye proud as fuck

Thank you. I did not know this; I am glad to know it now. Maybe that man and I can meet one day in heaven, and I can get to shake his hand and sit down and talk with him a while.
