The Typhoon development started in 1971 and was introduced in 2003 and the F22 started in 1981 and was introduced in 2005. Obviously in many ways there’s a gulf between them but interestingly the Typhoon is still relevant. The lesson for the European group is they have to reduce the time from concept to introduction.
It’ll be designed to be even more BVR focused I think. If a tempest gets into a merge something has gone wrong tactically. Hopefully we’ll see it fly some day unless Labour cancel it
@@bobthebomb1596 you can’t compare them, they are all different. 2 raptors vs 2 F35s in a merge dogfight and the F22 wins every time. Same fight in BVR and the F35 dominates. Tempest will have greater stealth and greater BVR tech but will most likely be poor in a merge.
@@jonathanbeattie3410 Point being if Tempest is not way more advanced than F22 after all these years the UK should not be wasting money trying to compete.

I hope interview like this is cleared by MoD and DoD. Small little details about the capabilities of both aircraft are what the Russians and Chinese are looking for
Yes. There was no classified (or exploitable) information given in this video. It's no secret that in a visual fight, the pilot skills are of higher importance. Of course these BFM/DACT fights occur with Typhoon (Rafale/Gripen/etc....) in clean configurations. In a combat configuration, the fight wouldn't be nearly as fair, due to the performance penalties on the 4th generation jets. BVR, 4th generation jets don't stand a chance.
F22 needed 3 missiles to shoot down an helium balloon - 3 missiles for a sitting duck 🦆 , how many missiles does it need for a enemy fighter jet lol 🤦🏼♂️😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
1) The F-22 shot the balloon down with one AIM-9X. 2) The balloon doesn't emit heat, so the only signature it presented was its ambient temperature vs the background of the sky. 3) An aircraft is a far less challenging target, as it not only has a larger visual signature, but a larger radar and infrared signature.
It’s always nice to hear a frank answer regarding the realities of the air to air mission.
Looking forward to this.
Good thing these aircraft are all on the same team.
Not for long 😳
Great interview
Very interesting. I've been waiting for this for a while. A no bullshit commentary from an F-22 pilot on DACT. 👏👏👏👏👏👍

The Typhoon is the ugly under achieving sister to the Rafale.
'71? surely '81?
Great stuff, cool bloke, looking forward to the full talk!
29 Sqn T shirt. Nice. Only get an Ooh with Typhoon©️
Be interesting to see how the Tempest fares against the Raptor if amd when it gets into service

If Tempest is not superior to the Raptor we should just buy the F35A

Doubt it will

No points for second place.
Thanks, Inspector General Jager6863 from the Quote Police. 🙏

Raptor pilots call BVR "seal clubbing" for a reason.
Under modern doctrine if you go hand to hand combat the system has broken down I guess.
A lot of things had to go wrong, a clusterfck chain one could say.
👌

It fired one aim9x at a balloon at 60000ft.
even if, why would you blame the f22 when it was the missiles fault?
