Here in the states I use dog repellent. It's sort of like pepper spray, but it's designed to wear off more quickly, to be less harmful to the dog. Most dogs are just curious though, and I don't need to spray them. Just slow down, say hello, and "good doggy. Go home," but there are a few absolute psycho dogs that are intent on biting. I blame the owners for being neglectful, abusive, or outwardly encouraging them to attack.
Hmm, the problem is you don’t know whether a fast moving barking gnashing dog will bite unless you give it the opportunity to do so! I think quite a few dogs are drawn to revolving wheels and bite at them/you. I prefer to pedal away as quickly as possible.
i cycle here in thailand, heaps of dogs everywhere. mostly day trips...i find it best to ride in the hot part of the day, dogs are all having siestas in the shade. but when dogs show up and seem angry, best to slow right down or stop...most dogs will do the same. i got bit in the calf last year...kind of got ambushed from behind and tried to outrun him, sadly i didn't and it was rabies shots for me. worst part is entering a town on a bike and right away a dog starts barking. he alerts other dogs down the street who in turn alert more dogs further down the road and you have to run a gauntlet of excited dogs. not fun.
In Romania, we are used to deal with dogs on the road, in the villages or close to the sheep herds. The dogs in the last case are pretty persuasive. Stoping is the good thing to do in most cases, and giving orders with very firm voice (in any language). I use often an ultrasound cheap device for repelling the dogs. It usually works efficiently, except the old dogs (they are nearly deaf).
Dogs are great but can be a headache sometimes! Btw, if you're riding you should get an nta helmet like xnito or bern hudson, cpsc helmets aren't really safe
My method with dogs is to just stop and let them investigate me. They’re curious to know who I am, and have never ever encountered an aggressive dog! I think of them as excitable kids happy to see a new face.
The thing you called puncture can happen when the tube gets accidentally stuck between the rim and the outer tire. Then when you inflate there is a lot of pressure and in riding a lot of wear; then after some time it springs a leak.
Had this happen before, usually slowing down and shouting sorts it, keeping going or speeding up, hmmm, he'd go for your trouser leg - not good, ha-love it Ed..
My method with angry dogs is to stop the bike and pretend to pickup a stone and hold my hand high in the air. It works all the time. The dog runs away.
Most dogs I have encountered, run away if you stop and try and pet them. Some keep barking so I just keep going and then there are those that don't slow down and start to bite, I keep a knife and stab them. They usually yell and then run away. Not my intention to harm them but some want to kill you so I would have no issues killing them.
You missed some beautifull spots!! Like the okatse canyon, mestia (our highlight in georgia) the cave houses, chiatura etc. But i love seeing the places we have missed!! These videos are like a trowback to 2019 for me!!
I love the relaxed atmosphere of your videos. Stunning landscapes, lots of smiles and laughter and a big portion of love between both of you. Many thanks for sharing this all with us. (Something is telling me that their soon will be another companion with you at the campfire) Best wishes from Germany
A nice blast of water to the face usually does it lol. By the way, the fact you rode a unicycle around the world is fucking amazing and the fact that I was loving your videos before I even knew you did that magnificent feat is blasphemous but hilarious!
The best way to stop dogs chasing you, is to stop ride. if you ignore them, one of them one day will bite you for sure. I have been in Georgia many times with my bicycle, and knows all the roads you have ride there and many more. In the beginning of my trips in Georgia I ignored the dogs that barking and chasing me, Till one day one Georgian shepherd (50 kg) tasted my right thigh. 2cm depth in my muscle....
You can fill a kid’s plastic squirt gun with salt water and spray it in the dog’s face 🐶. That works well and doesn’t harm the dog. There was some beautiful scenery in this video. 👍☮️🌞🚴🚴♀️❤️
What an awesome tandem cycling adventure you two have! Warm greetings from "Tugu Pal Putih" (The White Monument) in the Special Territory (of the Sultanate Palace) of Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
Always stop, the thought of paws in spokes makes me cringe. It's all just excitement, I tend to talk to them until they get bored and walk off. 😂 I did get attacked by a fox in the same way though 😂
We would need so many more drone shots from your insane adventures, but I guess, you needed to be very ressourceful with the batteries on this one.........
I tried using a personal safety device to stab a dog from my keychain once. I told my friend , he suggested mace. I missed first time but dog backed off. Then 2 days later he came at me and I was ready, got him right in the face. " Chili dog" lol
Josef
That close yell really strongly "You go home", they'll circle a bit and try again yell again looking at them usually that's it, a dog that wasn't trained to attack is getting out-of-territory by 2 tries will turn around having protected house & home. Ymmv 🍺
The Lake Tahoe - Pyramid Lake bikeway is awesome until you get onto the Pyramid Lake Indian Reservation. The resident's dogs are out of control. Just stay away
I have never encountered a dog truely trying to harm me on my bike, but plenty of times dogs will chase my girlfriend. She thinks she can outrun the dogs but nevr does. They would chase me too but i stop, get off stand my ground and say hi.
Bravo.........I'm a biker to......the best is water bottle......wait till they get right up to u......huffing puffing.....just squirt water on nose and eyes area .......they cant hold there breath......they loss all will ........only on bicycle.....cheers
Wow! That thumbnail! Surely you didn't setup a tripod, ride past while the dog chased you, and then go back to get the camera. I've got to assume this was a trick photo 😂
You see in some shots he has a GoPro mounted on a long arm up and away from his handlebars. It's either that and/or the effects of a 360° shot...errr I must've imagined an entirely different thumbnail (I'm sleep deprived levels of tired), as I just checked the channel vids list before posting and that looks like a bit of illustrative after effects, with both the motion blur of the bike, dog and landscape and the dog itself photoshopped into the picture. I've just now noticed your emoji and have realised you were probably joking and didn't need me to explain your joke for you!😳😵💫
I would use dog repellent. It's round, has a hollow lead core and a copper jacketing and moves at a high rate of speed while it is spinning to stabilize
Yes and when they see its a person then it becomes a race not a chase to the end of what they see as their territory Did this with a greyhound when I started off again it took off like a shot and was waiting for me to catch up
I've been running in Greece and Portugal and had some scary encounters with dogs. Shouting NO! seems to sometimes work but I am also considering a dog-spray. At least on the bike you can put the bike between you and the dogs, but on foot I feel a bit more exposed. And someone running is more normal to chase! Eeek!
Bear spray and a golf club are good to carry while cycling through dangerous dog territory. If the wind is not favorable the golf club can be used like in Polo to give the Demon Dog a swift and proper smashing, while riding the bicycle.
I Follow the advice form the Japanese woman who vlogs her round the world cycling. If a dog wants to chase me I stop and look at the dog. Doing that makes it give up as I am cleanly not going to play chasey with it. It takes guts to do it the 1st few times as I don't like dogs but I have found her advice works.
The drone footage over the lake as you crossed the bridge is epic. Well done Sir.
That was some clever log splitting
I do same as you, stopping and talking with them a little. They are not actually angry, just following their taming and guarding instincts.
Here in the states I use dog repellent. It's sort of like pepper spray, but it's designed to wear off more quickly, to be less harmful to the dog. Yeah, I did the same as you, i.e. talk nicely to them as if they’re my own pets and they won’t harm you at all.
These aren’t really pet dogs though, they are intended as guardians, so they are performing their duties as intended.
That foreshadowing about punctures :D
I bet it’s bad rim tape which leads to repeated punctures.
Hi Ed, Hi Shola,
wow the landscape was super nice.
Another beautiful video.
Warm greetings from Germany
Dagmar🥰
Your storytelling and editing is quite superb. Yet another super video.
Great video ! More landscape and ride. Very good job :)

@@Cesar-cm4if tell us sir one reason why dogs are great? 🤣
Love these videos. Keep 'em coming!
I do find that riding a recumbent Trike I am not so easy to bite. I think the wheels around me put's them off for fear of being run over
Got out on my first 3 day uni-packing trip this weekend. I watched the WUT over COVID and it's bene a huge inspiration
My method with dogs is to just stop and let them investigate me. They’re curious to know who I am, and have never ever encountered an aggressive dog! I think of them as excitable kids happy to see a new face.
Really easy a squirt bottle loaded with ammonia works every time.
Absolutely beautiful, breathtaking everything.
These videos are so enjoyable. Excellent choice of music, too. Thank you both for taking the time to make these.

I am enjoying this very much!! Reminds me of cycle touring in my teens in the 1980s.
If a dog gets too aggressive I just tell it to fuck off. But mostly you just keep cycling.
I would love to see your recipe for the go-to carrot onion pasta meal if you don't mind!
Beautiful. Just beautiful. Thanks for the Video.

Super. Looking forwards to the next episode when, I guess you will reach the Black Sea about which, I'm at the other end of it in Bulgaria.
You are so inspiring guys! I have a small Honda and by watching you I am encouraged to ride farther. Thank you!

came for the angry dogs 🐕 🐩 stayed for the adventure ✌🏽💯✨
You did an amazing job filming it.
What was the hardest part, filming, editing or the actual adventure?
Beautiful but peppered with bitter sweet.
A nice blast of water to the face usually does it lol. By the way, the fact you rode a unicycle around the world is fucking amazing and the fact that I was loving your videos before I even knew you did that magnificent feat is blasphemous but hilarious!
Never worked for me.
27:43 What a massive foreshadowing...
Great review.

Very nice episode :)
You just made me want to cycle Georgia next year 😋
Love you Ed!
the dogs probably reacted to the ultrasonic sound of tires
tires make a high/low pitched sound which dogs can hear and that startles them

Dogs, crossing the U.S. I kept a small pepper spray in my pocket. Spray toward them and they stop immediately.
Buy a can of bear spray

㩦帶這麼多行李,你們是沿途露營嗎?
I use a water bottle like a squirt gun, most dogs are so surprised they stop in their tracks. It does no harm and you already have it with you.
They used to specifically make very small caliber guns to shoot them 😮
I was harassed very often in Romania by crazy dogs. Found the best thing to do was to slam on the brakes....it frightens the hell out of them
Good camping activities
Damn just finished your last video just to see you got another hell yeah
Lucky you! Haha
Gopro stick in front of you will help.
Stay ahead of the dogs if they chase you so they can not get your teeth into you, or you could stop and make friends
Run, pedal faster, fly... I dont mess with no dogs. But where I am, it's turkeys not dogs running after you...
Just stop and say high, it's the bike and not you they are reacting to.
Yes and when they see its a person then it becomes a race not a chase to the end of what they see as their territory Did this with a greyhound when I started off again it took off like a shot and was waiting for me to catch up

bag dog treats ...if they chase you drop a treat .......Learned this from 1980s cop movies give a dog a steak
