Fun side note: While Jack was an upholster, he secretly put his first album in furniture. About 100 of them.
They have never been recovered.

Not sure if this is true. For reference look at Meg's second failed marriage where it just sounds like she had mental health issues that got between the union succeeding without animus. That is likely the culprit here. Jack has even admitted that Meg has always been extremely reserved which can be difficult for clear communication in any relationship.
It's almost a miracle they were able to keep it going for as long as they did (as a band) based on Jack's description of how regular their communication was and how it always was more of a chore for him to get her involved. This is not a criticism of her but, just a recognition of what she's like. Clearly, people love her (and him).

We all gotta learn something from them- the fact that they literally broke up and we’re still chill with being in a band is pretty dope. I wish everyone was chill with ending relationships like that (of course unless it’s something horrible like the other person cheated or ghosted you) but if y’all just lose feelings for each other, that’s fine, talk it out. Maybe it just isn’t working romantically and that’s fine

I think it was a compatibility issue as far as the marriage. In interviews, Jack has openly admitted that monogamy isn't natural for him. I think they worked better as friends/colleagues. There's a story out there about them chilling in a bar and Jack openly making out with another women in front of Meg and she looked the other way. Whether or not they were broken up/divorced at that point I'm not too sure about. They divorced but maintained the band.
She had performance anxiety and that as far as I can tell was the biggest reason for the demise of the The White Stripes. She wanted (needed) out.
This vid does get the sibling thing wrong a bit. Jack chose to promote them as siblings up front. He didn't want their romantic/marriage aspect to effect how the audience perceived them. In many interviews, he states that. And it was a fluke that they were outed.
Honestly, how anyone thought they were brother and sister baffles me. Watch their chemistry together.. Not very sibling like.

If I'm not mistaken, they divorced a while before becoming famous and we're going to go separate ways too, but then the band blew up and they decided to continue making music.

I used to live right by that Memphis Smoke on Main in Royal Oak. But I don’t remember any open mic nights there honestly.
Main St. in Royal Oak was a pretty cool area back then though. A lot of artists and people like that hung out down there around that Memphis Smoke and Noir Leather place especially. Mid to late 90’s was a great time living there.
That’s because Meg worked at the Gold Dollar and that’s where they met. Not sure why they used Royal Oak and Memphis Smoke. Jack was/is a Cass Corridor guy. Like John Brannon.

I'd guess they used MS because people with clout in the industry hang out there and not in the Cass Corridor. Eddie Harsch was also a CC guy, I watched him drive up in his BMW for a Black Crowes show @ the Fox.
I hung out in royal oak a lot in the 90s and 2000s. A lot 🤣

I recall around 2005 having an ongoing argument with a younger woman who, because they stated that they brother and sister in an MTV interview, would not listen to me attempt to educate her, that they were infact previously married. As a serious fan of the White Stripes and Jack in general, I was furious that I couldn't convince her of this. It just goes to show that if enough people believe a lie without any consideration for seeking the truth, the lie becomes the truth. Be well friends.

She was my Sous chef at Memphis Smoke. I was a line cook at the time. I’ve never peeled so many sweet potatoes with her than anywhere potatoes in my life. Also, the open mic nights were on the extremely slow days. Memphis Smoke 5-6 days of the week had some of the best live music in the whole Midwest. Lots of famous musicians would perform there if they were playing a much bigger gig in town. There was someone famous in there almost daily.
Great band to great solo singer. Jack is definitely a great singer.
I spent a lot of time in Royal oak in the 90s and 2000s. It had great nightlife. Way back Royal oak music theater was a dance club on weekends. Called it 4th Street Asylum. It was awesome for a while. Then the crowd changed, lots of fights and it shut down. Used to be a place next door that was cool too, metro music cafe. Later 5th avenue was cool (it’s still there) and the basement bar in Bastone was also good.
Memphis smoke closed years ago. Not really sure why. The location has been different places since then.

It's true.
They were reunited and working on a new album with Peabo Bryson, but got hit in a head on collision by a drunk driver.
Jack had all his fingers amputated due to the third degree burns, he'll never play guitar again unless he figures out some gimmick.
He's good at that though, so he'll probably be ok.
And it was because Meg liked Peppermint candies...The White Stripes.

I grew up not too far away from Memphis Smoke. Our neighbor was the sous chef there and we talk about this guy that would come in and play open mic nights. He would say that you have to check them out because he is going to be the next big deal. Lol. Guess he was…. To be fair, I was like 6 years old.
