I was young when he died, but lemme say my piece.
Mandela was a wonderful leader. He was what Obama here should've been; a peaceful version of Abe Lincoln who fought for what was on his brain constantly, using words and unity as his weapon.. never giving up on his goals.
He was a true aspersion to the rights of the world, and a true hero.
MLK, Chief Joseph, Rosa Parks, Micheal Collins and Ghandi would be so proud..
RIP to the great Nelson Mandela; the man who stood for the rights of South Africa, and the insperation of many. One of the last great liberators of the 20th century.

Truly the best speech given at the memorial, he does not call on the past, he tells us to learn from it, he does not attack others, as that would be pissing on the death of Mandela, he explains Mandela truly the way he was over the past 20 years, and he reminds us that any colour or creed can make it work, so all can live in peace and harmony. I am proud to call myself a South African, but I feel that all our leaders should learn from Madiba. RIP

  • @pamshappydogs

As usual, an extraordinary speech and oration by an extraordinary man, whose tribute must have been one of the most, if not the most fitting for Nelson Mandela, whose presidency set such an example, not just for politicians--not at all just for aspiring leaders, but for aspiring human beings and for those on the brink of losing hope, or needing to be pulled back from that abyss after they have tumbled over. I am so grateful to have lived during the time of Mandela's liberation, the end of apartheid, and the presidency that seemed--and was--nothing short of miraculous. Likewise, I am blessed to be alive during the terms of the first African American president of the United States. And I saw the (public) end to the cold war. It is true that change on a worldwide scale is possible--and we have seen it, and it can and will happen again. Mandela's life always has and will continue to give me hope. Thank you for letting me see this--it means a lot to me. With great love, Namaste, Pam

Having read the comments, I find it extremely sad that so much negativity can be taken from this speech. It was truly inspirational and aspirational. What is wrong with at least trying to live up to the values of equality, freedom and justice? If we remain bitter about past transgressions and hold onto our differences, then history shows that we slow down the progress of humanity and perpetuate misery. A lose/lose situation. Why don't we try forgiveness for a change and get on with trying to improve ourselves and to make a positive difference, however small?

Anything that Seems Impossible go for it. Because we served a God Who make the impossible possible. Amen 🙏. Great speech Mr. President. Nelson Mandela left the battle for us. The struggles continued.
