I've had mine laying about in my room since they were first released, for several years, and they hold up fine. And. They are the best investment I ever made. It's no joke, these things WORK.
It's amazing I was struggling with a mix for weeks now with 2 monitoring systems and 3 different headphones... I got it and in 3 hours I got to fix the whole thing ready for mastering... It's really accurate you save so much time I totally recommend it.
One thing I think that is giving these headphones a lot of mixed reviews might be because they REALLY benefit from a high end DAC and a headphone amp. I have been using these since the first week they came out. Last week I plugged them into my laptop as I was gonna be using them travelling. I think they were almost unusable from what I was used to! These don't replace the signal chain from computer to your ears. You still need a HIGH end soundcard with DAC and preferably a headphone amp to drive them properly. I recommend Benchmark DAC 3 HG3 or an RME Babyface or similar.
@@MOSMASTERING 100% agree ... I switched from SSL2 to an apogee boom Just because of those Headphones and the Difference ist quite mindblowing. Most Interfaces aim for high impedance Headphones which ist a Problem with the vsx
@@Lamarro Absolutely.. people using a minijack out of a laptop (seriously, the actual worst quality output socket you can find) then reviewing the product based on that are being incredibly disingenuous. If you are wondering whether to buy these... just do it. No joke, they work exactly as advertised and I own ATH-m30x and they aren't much of a worse build. Just don't sit on your headphones and you'll be fine. The cult of people that DESPERATELY don't want to "fall for the hype" is mind boggling. It's not hype. If you've mixed in rooms with good monitors, you'll understand the implications very quickly after giving them shot.
Agree. I've been using them since the first week they were released. I've got a 50k studio that I couldn't go to because of covid lockdown. I've been working from home ever since and these allowed that. I can go from production to mastering on these no problem.
The quality is shit because it's just a rebranded "cheap" headphone, they make you buy those """"special"""" headphones in order to use the plugin. It's an old marketing strategy (and they did it pretty well) and people keep falling xD
I hope people watching this video won't listen to these information as true. What is this advie? " don't buy these headphones if you leave them on the desk"? this video is so missleading. I've just got new VSX and they sound sick

Again, misinformation. VSX uses a technology called binaural psychoacoustics. You need the headset and the software. Not one or the other. The tremendous benefit is that you can change rooms and speakers to fine-tune trouble areas. You're not stuck with one set of speakers or headsets. You can even check your mixs in cars. There is a 30 day, money back guarantee.
this guys just doesn’t want you to get them i watched this before getting them and it got me sceptical a bit, best investment ever and if they break i’ll buy another one, (they’re mixing headphones, don’t sound good for consumer)
I have some , at best I thought they were helping me for bottom end , which is still slightly true , but after the fatigue I just don’t know what I’m hearing in the headphones, with reference track they do help , but so does every other monitoring system , but I still don’t feel like I’m in those rooms
By the way.. when you 'tap' them, and they sound like plastic.. They're designed that way. They have to be solid and light for the drivers to produce the suboctave frequencies. They can easily be made heavier with a bunch of unnecessary metal... Dre. Beats headphones - a teardown showed that their 'weight' was due to the amound of unncessary aluminium in them that makes them feel more expensive. If you're gonna be wearing these ALL DAY. I'm not saying there aren't knowledgable ppl that like and use VSX. But they also seem to attract & convince a lot of broskis who come from ATH-M50X level with little experience, and now turn into a cult mentality, screaming into the face of everyone not saying that VSX is god's greatest gift or sth. The build quality is still shit, even after the headband was fixed. Like, on gearspace there's so many reports of ppl (many of which love VSX from a sound perspective) who are on their n-th set. These are non-repairable throwaway cans, what happens after the warranty is up?
Yet Slate hasn’t given anyone issues sending out replacements. I sold an old pair to someone on eBay that broke on them months later. Slate even sent them a replacement.
They do feel cheap and dont sound better than a equivilant headphones in terms of price range, when used without the software. Mixes do translate better using them though and thats the point. I heard they were in the process of making a systemwide for VSX which will be a game changer. I know there are unofficial ways of doing it but ill happily wait. The build quality isnt the worst ive seen, but i am worried about the leather peeling. I had the m50x before and the leather started peeling after 2 years of daily constant use. They definitely serve their purpose which is why i can get over the inferior audio quality compared to my dt1990s.
Vsx is by far the best investment I’ve made in my entire pro musician life. These things translate 100% of the time, worth every penny. No more struggling with doubts on what I’m hearing, what I’m hearing translates every where, end of story .

They're for making music in the studio. Not touring. Would you take your monitors from the studio on tour? This is what they are. A piece of gear that help you replace all the soundproofing and monitors in your studio.
You should be ashamed of yourself for your complete lack of understanding what these are made for. They aren’t made to play pickleball in. They are meant to be quiet and accurate to pick out inaccuracies in your mix. Doofus
Yet Mike Dean mixed and mastered the whole Utopia album on them, and refused to work on the album without them. No speakers involved in the preparation of the album, just those headphones
Lmao wtf is this “review” I own hd 600s, sundaras, and these easily compete sound wise for being closed back. Literally the ONLY drawback to them is mediocre build quality. The system is very straight forward to use and no longer do I HAVE to be at the studio desk to get quality mixes. This is definitely a more complete and well rounded room sim package than anything else out there but yeah don’t buy them if you plan on abusing your equipment.

Thats because the Headphones are built to be used with the software. You then use the software to help your mix.
