I tried this but at one point the mat effect doesn't come. Can you tell me how many straws did you inserted in that round cardboard. Is it odd no or even no of straws... Looking forward to your reply.
Use a 2mm knitting needle or smaller and starting at about a 30 degree angle, roll a strip of paper cut to a size of 5 to 7 cm wide and as long as you choose. When you roll the paper you'll roll along the long side. Once the opposite corner has been rolled, pick up the tube holding your starting point and use your fingers on that hand tho keep rolling the paper tight around the needle. Your other fingers will be guiding the loose end into the tight tube. When you have nothing left but a little corner of paper , stop. Put a drop of glue on the inside of that corner and finish rolling it into your tube. Making sure the point is firmly glued down. Now, do it again with another strip of paper. Keep practicing, you'll get it. I must have made a hundred of them before I could finally make them all the same size. Then I made 500 more anand found out when I tried to stain them that I'd used the wrong paper. Back to the drawing board to find the right paper. The best paper that I've found for this is called news print. Either use the newspaper if you get it delivered or you can get blank news print at most craft stores. It might be called something else where you are. Good luck
