I showed these amazing videos to my daughters and they watched, captivated ... as I tried my best to give a general narration over the video (quietly of course). Never seen my 10 year old so attentive when watching someone create Art.
@@TheVanillatech Thank you ! Before I started filming and editing videos of our little artist's square, there was little or no imformation about the "place du tertre".What was available was lots of negative comments about the artists who worked there.I think my videos have given people proof that that there ARE good artists at Montmartre.I am now 63 years so there are less videos from me now but I still have a few I would like to share.Thank you again for your encouraging comments.
@@DavyLimvideos Love your videos. Thanks for sharing with those of us not there in person. I hope some day I'll be there and see with my own eyes. What type of medium is he using: soft pastels? hard pastels? other?
This is the way pastel portraits should be done. I see artist doing a full drawn image then filling it in. Paint by numbers. This artist is An artist. Wonderful!
This is more like a how to draw on Mars video ... The amount of skill and personality is extraordinary but the greatest lesson i learnd from this is that it doesnt actually matter wether you do an oil portrait or a single pencil sketch its all about capturing the personality of the person sitting in front of you while staying true to your world an your own emotional state....

Formidable démonstration du talent d'artiste👌.Merci pour cette vidéo.
Il était pendant très longtemps le meilleur portraitiste de la place du Tertre. Malheureusement, il a pris ça retrait et ne travaille plus à Montmartre.
Hi Davy. Your many comments in your fine youtube videos are a very informative and inspiring and entertaining for me and my art students in my portrait classes in Copenhagen. Thanks a lot. Best wishes. Martin
All that work in 40 minutes !! it is fantastic, i have had portraits made for me by artists that would take them up to 2 hours to complete, it would take that amount of time for myself and has many times when doing portraits. Has Svay got a website !
Teng is one of a kind.He is a simple man.His life is based on compassion. He does not spend money on web sites. He gives a a great deal to charitable projects in Cambodia. He is without doubt one of the greatest atists to have graced the place de tertre. He is also a wonderful human being, whose life is based on self-awareness and compassion.I have never seen him angry ,agressive, jealous, or negative in any way.A very special artist and a very special human-being.Get a portrait drawn by this little genius before it is too late.
Davy Lim if you don’t mind me asking, how many euros did he charge for this portrait? do you know what most artists at the place du tertre would charge for a portrait like this? i hope to visit montmartre in a few weeks and i was wondering generally how much a portrait is :)
If you google 'svay teng denis' you should find a site showing his work.He will be back in Paris soon after spending the winter in his native Cambodia building wells and doing other charity work for remote villages.Teng is a real artist..he sees the BIG picture! My next video will show more of his art work and I will include video of his charity work too.Thank you for your comment;
@shysterlicious Yes..the model is Davy or 'yvad' as in yvadmil.I have posed for Teng a couple of times. On this occaision I wired him up with a mic. and my son did the filming.
You are so right.Teng at his best, inspite of having to make a commentary, which put a lot of extra pessure on him.But he did a great job inspite of that. Thanks to my son, Ernie who did a great job as the camera man.He was 13 years old when he filmed this.I could not film it because I was the guy being drawn.A bit of Montmartre history here.No-one will ever forget Sway Teng Denis.
Before he died, I did many portraits of my own father, but I was never totally satisfied with any of them, even though he had a great face to paint..sometimes its more difficult to capture someone you love and know well..good luck with your portraiture!
@foreverhoads A light application of spray fixative is a good idea for full colour pastel drawings like this one.Allways frame your work with a passe partout so the glass does not touch the surface of the drawing.
You're absolutely right. Buying the best bicycles in the world, for example, does not guarantee a win in the Tour de France. Having said that, quality materials/ supplies does make a difference in competent and talented hands. The talent and the competence have to be there first in order for the materials to have a measurable difference from lesser quality supplies.
@yvadmil So you're Davy? Fantastic! I must admit that I never would have matched the face with the voice. LOL. BTW, I loved your drawing in "A pastel portrait Tutorial from the 'Place du Tertre' in Paris." I keep studying how your drawing developed, how easily you moved the pastel pencil and how deceptively simple you make it look to draw. it's not easy. "A pastel portrait Tutorial ..." video is the one I watch the most! Davy, my real name is Tom, and it's very nice to meet you:0)
Hola. Muchas gracias.
@heirihunziker I agree,Svay is magic,a one-off.He also does great humanitarian work in his spare time. (check out the video "portrait of a portraitist")

Svay is still the best!
Ah, Teng has such a spirit of Paris about him and a great portraitist. When I come to Paris, I hope he will still be at the Place de Tertre.
He is still coming in to work,in the evenings...but don't wait to long.We are all getting older.
TOP JOB !
A great video to see a master at work. Thanks for posting
J'ai vu cet artiste à Montmartre il y a quelques années. Quelle utilisation de la couleur ! Je comprends mieux pourquoi maintenant !

Dry Pastel..mixed brands.

maestro!!!
how much does he usually charge per face?
The price of a colour portrait drawn from life is 100-120 euros per person. Prices for portraits drawn from photos are generally more.
This guy is fricken AWESOME!
Is the model in this video the "Davy" who is featured as an artist in "A pastel portrait Tutorial from the 'Place du Tertre' in Paris" video ?

Davy-
If you can remember, what type of pastels is Mr. Denis using to paint this portrait?
Is he using Oil Pastels or Hard Pastels? Anyhow, amazing video!
Soft pastels!

bravissimo
Blessings!!! RAWESOME!!!
One of Montmartre's greatest ever portraitists.
I was aways told that fixative would flatten colors and dull them and never to use it for pastels.
@goonthemicra The sitter made a 100 euro contribution toward the construction of a village well in Cambodia.
@yvadmil That's what I thought, Davy. I can tell he is using more than one brand, some of which look familiar. Take care.
Wow😎😄
how much?
Cost of portaits in the the place du tertre:Colour-100 eoros.Monochrome-60 euros
