Ray Bourque was traded to Colorado for EXACTLY this reason. Boston was not going to win the Cup while Bourque was a player. Boston did the right thing and sent him to a team that had a great chance to win it all.
@@munkustrap2The way I understood it, when the GM told him he was going to Colorado he told him: "I know this isn't your first choice, But I really believe it's your best shot." So classy by the Avalanche having Bourque get the first skate with the cup, Sakic went next, then Rob Blake who had played 11 years without winning a cup.
"Ayers was just sitting in the stands with his wife. The Hurricanes started searching the crowd for an emergency goalie." No, every arena has 1 emergency back up goalie at every game for either team to use, they don't ask the crowd who can play.
fun fact with the Craig Anderson moment. the money raised that night in Edmonton all went to the Canadian cancer foundation, there was no 50/50 every cent went that night.
I know right? Just that he retired and came back. The reason it all happened and was impressive was his fight with cancer. Bad video all around with that cringy narrator.
I felt like Badger Bob should have been mentioned here, He coached the pens to their first cup just to pass away before the next season, Pens winning back to back was for him.

A big one you missed…Bernie Geoffrion was a star for many years for the Montreal Canadiens and played for them his entire career and coached the team as well (how well he coached can be debated). His son played for the team also, though not a star The Canadiens, having not done so for quite a while, decided to retire several numbers, along with his number (finally) in a short span of time. Geoffrion bled blue, white & red & was extremely proud to have been associated with the team for so long. He passed away the night before the ceremony. Members of his family attended the ceremony, it was so sad to watch what would have been one of Geoffrion’s proudest moments, and to see his family there was heartbreaking 💔
Yea agreed. Narrated like a true tennis enthusiast. 4 goals in a period ... "I didn't even think that was possible" Really? Enough to make me skip any future videos from this guy...
You're kidding right? Nothing on Bruins player Normand Léveillé??? I'd say his returning to the original Garden for a last skate on it's ice was extremely emotional, never mind how his career ended. For those who don't know (& for speed & ease I'm going to copy & paste)... "On October 23, 1982, after the first period in a game against the Vancouver Canucks in Vancouver, British Columbia during his second season with the Bruins, Léveillé complained of feeling dizzy & having pains in his shoulder. As the trainers began tending to him, he lost consciousness. He was rushed to a local hospital, where doctors diagnosed a brain aneurysm. Léveillé was rushed into emergency surgery in an effort to save his life. After surgery, he was comatose for three weeks & remained hospitalized for an additional three weeks." "In 1995, the Boston Bruins invited Léveillé to the closing ceremonies of the Boston Garden, where he was allowed to skate on the Garden ice one last time. Bruins captain Ray Bourque helped escort Léveillé around the ice surface." By escort they pretty much mean pull. He could barely walk. I'd say those were pretty emotional events.
if youre gonna make these videos tell the truth and do your research!!! Carolina did not search for a goalie Ayers was the EBUG for both teams if needed! As for Mario he had to retire do to Leukemia or something and when he went in to remission he decided to try playing again he DID NOT JUST GET OFF THE SOFA AND PLAY AGAIN.....
As soon as I heard “Pell” Lindbergh, I knew the guy didn’t know hockey. Referring to the “Smithie” division confirmed it. As did the filler in between.
How about Normand Léveillé who had a brain aneurysm on ice in '82. He suffered significant brain damage. Other emotional ones: Clint Malarchuk (Buffalo), Rich Peverly (Dallas)

For the woman flashing herself at Alex Ovechkin it was kinda real because it did happen in the video but not directly, it was Alex Ovechkin holding the cup and when his back was turned, the woman lifted her clothes but Alex didn't even see.
Bourque’s trade to Colorado wasn’t really a blessing in disguise, he had asked for a trade to a contender as he was nearing the end of his career, wanted a chance to win a Cup and knew he wasn’t going to win one in Boston… also, how could you leave out when terrorists attacked Ottawa and St-Jean sur Richelieu and the victims were honoured by Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto singing O Canada in unison?
Smithee division? Get a damn clue and stop using AI. It's the SmYthe division. Y as in I. I was actually at the Miracle on Manchester and was sitting in the nosebleed section. The place had nearly emptied out by half after the Oilers took a 5-0 lead. To this day I don't know why I stayed. I was literally in a direct line from where the game winning shot was taken and could follow it all the way into the net. I kept the ticket stub but 42 years and 6 moves later, I have no idea what happened to it.
'Searching the crowd for an emergency goalie' - proving you don't follow the NHL. Ayers was the designated Emergency Back-Up Goaltender - there is one at every NHL game, provided by the home team for exactly for these situations. Clickbait stuff.
How about when the Humboldt Broncos hockey team was destroyed when a truck smashed into their team bus? Every single professional hockey player could relate since they all had spent many, many nights travelling from town to town on just such a bus. It hit very close to home.

Doesn't take long to get one stitched up. Every arena has an emergency backup goalie should such a thing happen. Especially rare for 2 goalies to get hurt in the same game. Probably what inspired it: there was a case a few years ago in Florida Roberto Luongo got injured in the 1st period, they pulled him for backup Al Montoya, in the 3rd period Montoya pulled his groin, He tried to play through but was clearly struggling. The team was scrambling, they considered playing without a goalie the rest of the game, putting forward Scott MacKenzie in (he had some goalie experience), Coach Robb Tallas ended up suiting up and was about to come into the game, but somehow they managed to get Luongo back to the arena and dressed and since his injury was apparently not so bad, he finished the game.
