I'd love to learn how you solved the reflection issue the yellow causes when wearing those Dewalt goggles.
I'm personally prone to Ocular Migraines and my glasses alone can cause an issue. The Dewalt goggles cause a double ghosting effect due to not eliminating enough light penetration through the silicone surrounding the large plastic lens.
For me I end up seeing my own eyes looking back at me while wearing those.
Personally I've looked into dying, or painting the silicone to improve the light blocking, but I've yet to find a good solution.

Eye doc here. I’ve seen the horrific things and I’ve treated those horrific things. The Dewalts are hands down my favorite. They are what I wear in my shop. And they are what I recommend to patients. Worn over prescription safety glasses, they provide better protection and they help Rx lenses last longer.

Heck yeah! I looked at my Amazon history and saw that I bought a pair of these about 3 years ago. I routinely wear them over my rx glasses (or even sunglasses, depending on where I'm working.) Had a chunk of plywood come off a table saw about a year ago and hit me square in the bridge of my nose. Probably would have cut me real well had I not had these on, and a few mm to either side could have been a bad day. The googles just have a little scuff there.

    Here’s mine :
About 5 years ago and just before I went to work in the morning I decided in my wisdom that it would be a good idea to use the dremel to shorten a tiny bolt that was just a tad too long.
Annoyingly I couldn’t find my safety goggles, and thinking it would just be a 5 second job I carried on.
Didn’t feel anything dramatic initially, but an hour after the job was done I felt that there was probably some dust on my eye - tried washing that off but no joy. It started hurting like crap the next day, so off to the hospital I went..
The eye specialist took a look through the scope and said “it seems there is a metal shard lodged in your eyeball.. and it was probably quite hot when it impacted cos it’s caused a burn... and it’s started to rust...” 😱😱😱😱
Long story short, he managed to get the shard out of the eye (thankfully it was 3mm off and on a part of the eyeball where I wouldn’t notice the scarring), And I’m perfectly fine today.
    So goggles, everyone!

I purchased these goggles along with a nice case for them on Amazon, and I already love them! Thanks, Adam, for a great suggestion. I have several other tools you've recommended in m cart to buy as money permits. I wanted to share my story of eye damage. I have managed to escape eye damage from most dangerous maker projects, shooting guns, and lots of yardwork. But a long time ago I did landscaping for a living and was hurriedly flinging pine bark mulch out of the back of a truck into a new flower bed to get done and go home for the day. I managed to get a tiny piece of bark lodged in my eye. What a painful injury! I also had to go to the eye doctor to get it removed, and she said it scratched my eyeball. It was sore and burning for several days after that. I was super careful from then on. I plan to use these goggles both for maker projects and yardwork such as weed whacking. Thanks again for the great suggestion.

He still managed to get the one wayward chip to land in his eye. Came right in from the top. As someone who spends a lot of time on the water, the advice in this video is also absolutely applicable to PFDs (life jackets). They can only save your life if you wear them, and so many people don't wear the ones they have because the ones they have are uncomfortable. It is so important to find one that is comfortable because once you have a PFD that is comfortable, you are a million times more likely to actually wear it.

Everyone had gotten so interested in the designs that they started to pay more attention to safety equipment.

Some parts don't grow back! Never compromise on protecting those.
I was once cutting the exhaust off my car with an angle grinder, wearing the standard blocky safety glasses with side-guards, and a hot shard found its way in anyway. Sometimes there is no replacement for sealing to the face! Only time I've been to the doctor for a making-injury, and fortunately it turned out my cornea was just burnt, nothing left behind embedded.
Another time I was shooting a brad-nailer into the edge of some MDF ...upwards ...and I was above it. No safety glasses like a fool. One blew out and I got pelted in the eyes with what turned out to be wood bits, but later found the nail lodged in the ceiling drywall! I still have that nail as a reminder.
As we say in the motorcycle world (at least those of us who both ride fast and continue to have skin), All The Gear, All The Time folks!

"Side shields" are available that attach to the ear pieces and fill the open space. They turn your ordinary glasses into simple goggles and you never need to remember to put them on. A friend of mine worked in a cabinet shop and swore by them. They are made in several sizes to fit different shapes of eyeglass frames. You should look into them.

Yep. I like those. I find when using an angle grinder, the cooling fan in the tool sometimes blows air right at my face and regular safety glasses will not stop the air from swirling around the edge and carrying stuff into my eyes. I even use those when mowing (riding mower) for the same basic reason; light dust, grass and wood particles get kicked up into the air and the air swirls around regular safety glasses. Goggles work much better.

Working in an entertainment shop in Las Vegas for 12+ years , I use the same dewalt safety goggles. The only downfall is they have little air vent slits on the top and bottom to prevent them from fogging up. Many times I had debris come in my goggles so...I ended up sealing them with tape and now nothing gets in. Great goggles over all! Would recommend

Safety goggles are a must! I had to visit the eye doctor before after getting a metal fleck in my eye. The eye doctor had to polish the rust off of my eyeball and it was not pleasant. They use numbing eye drops that work great, I couldn’t feel anything, but I could still SEE everything! At least, until I passed out.

Adam, you should *never* wait when it's an eye injury. That piece of metal could have done a heck of a lot of damage overnight. Go to the ER. Many ERs have eye doctors on staff/on call to handle eye injuries.
    That said...glad you're okay. 😊

The two most important lessons I've learned today (1) - When searching for Adam Savage's videos, spelling is important. "Adam Savage Testes" doesn't necessarily return the same search results as "Adam Savage Tested" and (2)- Good safety goggles are worth their weight in gold.
Adam, while you're at it, check out "RZ Masks". Good stuff.

I am an electronicist, so my work is typically at the scale of integrated circuits and their enclosures. This means that I don't have large tools around my shop, I have a large desk with hand tools around it. As all of my work is centered in one workspace I don't wear goggles, instead I have a pane of acrylic mounted to two pieces of lock-line that arc over my monitors. When I am soldering or clipping wire or any other potentially hazardous activity I pull the pane down in between my face and my work like a fume hood. It is much quicker and less cumbersome then putting on goggles so I actually do it every time.

    Could not agree more!
A month ago, I had to glue some magnets that came loose from my fridge magnet/hand towel hanger. I used cyanoacrylate glue (the liquid kind) to stick them in place. I was done, took off my goggles (the glue fume irritates my eyes) & about to leave the fridge magnet to dry when suddenly, the magnets jumped, attracted to one another.
The attraction made for a quick & powerful smack, causing the liquid cyanoacrylate glue to splash right into my left eye before I could look away.
It dried up quickly and I could not stop blinking. And then, I couldn't see clearly.
Made the run to a nearby hospital and they flushed it out with some solutions.
So, wear goggles, just to be on the safe side!

OK got 'em ... I could only snag 2 as that's all the seller had... I notice every time you make a tool tip the stuff runs out fast! Eyes are important, so are ears, hands, everything! Safety in the shop is no joke and I even keep a stocked fully OSHA compliant First Aid kit even though I am one guy in a *home* maker space. The best project I did was make a PPE and First Aid station that has all that stuff and it's near by the front door of my shop so it's the first thing I grab when I go in to do any work... Hope everyone stays and works safe in their shops . . . Remember the motto: "Be Prepared!" Adam, Thanks so much for posting this reminder

I use the dewalt safety glasses (not goggles) all the time, both for the safety aspect and because I get the bifocal ones. I work in a lab deprocessng integrated circuits. So everything is small, the magnification the bifocal gives me helps out a lot. I have the glasses straps on them. There are two pair on my desk at work, one pair on my desk at home and another tinted pair at home for working outside.

It's crazy, I just got my new DeWalt Safety glasses in the mail yesterday. I don't need glass covers, but I got them becasue they are "fog resistant". I visit automotive factories frequently and having a nice set of safety glasses is a real plus. Some of the cheap ones they supply are really sucky and now that we have to wear surgical masks the fogging is a real pain. The importance of protecting your eyes can not be over stated.

As a ( former ) gigging trombonist I’ve always subscribed to the method of “if I find a piece to the hard machine, ie any part that goes in or on the trombone or replaces a part of it, that works better than what I have now I spend time in the practice room to find out what can achieve the same result by simply improving the soft machine ( me ). There’s a difference here that I don’t need to spend another $300 on a mouthpiece if I can just practice my craft, but you do need to spend $15 on goggles if your current ones don’t fit or are scratched up. There are grey areas, but generally a musician can achieve great flexibility with simple tools most of the time, but a maker has a much larger tool box and needs more specificity

Years ago, I was scraping drops of paint off windows. One rather tenacious bit finally popped off and flew into my eye. Turns out, it was actually a tiny bit of welding slag. Before I could get it out, it scratched my eye and I was having a difficult time sleeping because closing my eyes irritated the scratch. I went to an ophthalmologist before I had to suffer a three-day holiday weekend. As soon as they put analgesic in my eye, I felt the first relief in a couple days. They then used the tip of a 25 ga hypodermic needle to tease out the three razor blade fragments eye that were starting to rust. What I had thought was the bit of slag was actually the bits of the razor that broke under the pressure.
So, yes, big proponent now of (wrap around) safety glasses/goggles.

Some years ago when I worked in a lab, was pouring ethanol. An unexpected glug created a drop that arced up two feet and over the top of my moderate sized glasses and into my eye. Burned like hell, but a trip to the eyewash station and 15 minutes I was more or less okay. I was very lucky. Safety glasses are sometimes not enough. Be safe - use full protection. $12 for cool looking goggles in nothing compared to your vision. Thanks Adam!

Fully agree. I got mugged many years ago and ended up being rushed to A&E to have the glass fragments removed from my left eye. I spent two weeks in the eye hospital as they worked to ensure my brain did not switch off the bad eye. Apparently, if that happens it's irreversible. Luckily the damaged eye was recovered to almost it's original state. So, I wear a 3M full face shield when machining, routing, etc.

Now i can just glance around my shop and if any lights are on i know i need to turn that power strip off.

That experience you made, I made when I was 5 years old. We had a workshop in kindergarten and we just build stupid/funny constructions with wood and nails. A tiny bit chipped of from the nail and hit me in the eye. It was a nightmare. They had to remove it with a very fine drill and something like a high tech dremel. You can imagine how a 5 year old feels when he sees a drill coming towards his eye and is told to hold still...
