Blair I recently read something stating that the hooks do not work themselves out of fish. It is something I always thought and left hooks in fish. Something you might want to look into.
If you want to fund good sized reds go to mosquito lagoon. My dad caught a 42 inch and a 36 inch in the same day and I caught a 24 inch. Just a suggestion.
For live or dead bait(shrimp, mullet) I like to use a 4/0 circle hook for reds under 35 inches, trout, black drum. Now for some big bull reds I like a 7/0 to 9/0 circle hook. Hope this helped !
