True Johnny Cope is indeed a Scots song, the two tunes after are of Irish origin. The two traditional styles are very close yet very different but go well hand in hand musically. I play both on fiddle, flute, and by voice.
This song is about the Jacobite Rebellion. The English forces were defeated by Highlanders at Prestonpans in Sep 1745. However, John Cope didn't flee the field as the song suggests. The English troops were untrained and didn't know the marshy terrain. The English were whipped. It was a great victory for the forces of Charles Edward Stuart (Bonnie Prince Charlie). Unfortunately, the Scottish were eventually defeated at the Battle of Culloden in Apr 1746. Great song-stuff of legends!
There are several ways to hold the tipper. This way is supposed to less strain your joints. If you look and listen carefully you can see and hear him use a brushtipper.
actually seen as alot of thew scottish army were from ireland its really a half half raelly as they were pissed with the english when they beat them in their own rebellion smae goes for france
Hello Bonnie Jon Starkie DAKINGINDANORF, if we would make a song it would not be about some battle we did not fight for ourselves.. we rather sing about peace instead
The lead singer is playing the bodhran wrong. Supposed to grip the tipple in the middle. Actually, I'm not sure where the drumbeat is coming from; it's not the bodhran player.
Geweldig om te zien en horen hoe een stel Nederlandse kerels met zoveel plezier de keltische muziek over weten te brengen. Love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dank je, We hebben hier al 22 Jaar plezier in!
Not just fabulous musicians, but great showmen as well! Brilliant!
