Should Steelers' Omar Khan Value Future 1st Round Draft Picks Over Trade Targets Like Brandon Aiyuk?

- The Pittsburgh Steelers are still rumored to be a potential trade partner with the San Francisco 49ers over Brandon Aiyuk. But should they if it involves a first round pick?
That's a question Christopher Carter tackles on today's episode that examines the Steelers' draft history and why they should value first round picks over trades unless extreme circumstances like Minkah Fitzpatrick's trade in 2019. But what makes Fitzpatrick's situation different than Aiyuk is the timing and the cost of the players when they signed.
Also, Chris gives his prediction on which of the Steelers' wide receivers will make it to the final roster, and how Pat Freiermuth can be used more in Arthur Smith's offense.

Totally agree with Omar. I thank God that the fans and half of the media members aren’t our GM. First of all, Khan has yet to miss on a first round pick, or even a first 4 round pick, imo. And then a $30 M/ yr contract would hamstring us going forward.
Well keep in mind he’s only been the GM for just two drafts and only one class has played a single snap. High grades and all for this year’s class but doesn’t mean it will turn out that way.
@@killalltogepis9916 yeah, maybe so, but would you trade Broderick or Fautanu right now for the privilege of paying Aiyuk $30 million per? And next year’s draft is supposed to be one of the deepest ever due to Covid and NIL keeping kids in school longer. Keep in mind that $30 mil would otherwise go a long way towards extending key players like Pickens and defensive stars, not to mention that we have no idea yet what our QB situation will be like next year.
I feel like BA will be a luxury bonus if acquired! But definitely not willing to give up 30 million nor a 1st round pick period!
I agree
I agree
I am not for it, especially at 30miilion a year. I would rather use a first round pick on a solid trench piece either on the Oline or dline. Personally, I like our WR room. reminds me of the 2010 group. They are going to be solid.
You offense is ranked 28th going into this year. Your defense is ranked 3rd in our div.
Caller ralph is spot on. Totally agree.
RC and The PIVOT, keep hyping up players only to be let downs. Remember what Claypool said in his interview. Thankfully the Steelers are too smart for that. 30mil and a 1st is NOT happening. I also agree with the caller, This move hurts GP's growth and may ruin his Steeler longevity. way too risky imo.
Let the khan artist do his magic
0:06 the stare off!😂
I though I was the only one who noticed that 😂
@@josephdonovan9125 thought the screen was frozen.
I don't think we NEED a WR2 but would be nice to have someone for a distraction so George can get 1 on 1 deep throws from Russ... Preston Wilson is a rookie but could be a good on the outside and Austin in the middle routes...
No comment considering where we always pick in the first round, I'll let the khan artist figure it out.
Mink still had 2 yr on his rookie deal and the safety market was not going to be anywhere near 30M a yr. The biggest difference now is that we have a lot of players on 1yrs deals in key positions
Ralph sounds like a wise Steeler fan
How's our UDFA RB Edwards gonna do at Latrobe? Can't wait 💪 #GeorgiaBulldogs
The Steelers haven’t drafted a receiver in the first round since 2006. I would say forget Brandon and draft a receiver in next year’s first round. I’m not convinced with Justin but that’s my opinion. I’d like to see them draft a second round quarterback that can learn from Wilson.
Great takes Chris
New QB, new coordinator, new offense scheme. It is uncertainty how all that significant changes are working out, so it is not the time to make big financial commitments. I'am convinced until the bye week the sky will be cleared and I'am prepared that during the bye week eventual some massive trades and/or extensions will happen despite the Steelers habit not to negotiate during the season.
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO STEELERS💛🖤💛🖤💛🖤💛🖤💛🖤💛🖤💛🖤💛🖤
He’s worth is CC he’s on a run first team 9 ers ranked 32 in passing attempts. A 1st round no but day 2’s he is an elite route runner, excellent in the run game and give us a chance to compete for a Lombardi! The wr market is changing aiyuk is a top 6-10 wr rn the bengals have 2 top wr we can’t be banking on Calvin and van Jefferson really.
Build through the draft. You can get a WR at #20 that could be Aiuk for 5 years. 30 million per year seems steep
GP isn't a #1 yet. He's the Steelers #1 wr, but not a league #1. If Aiyuk comes to us, he will immediately be the #1. 🤷🏾♂️
I would only trade for Aiyuk if he signed at least a 2 year extension, I think, 3 years of a pro bowl receiver is worth a first round pick.
RD1 pick vs trade for proven player isn’t a black and white, blanket discussion, it’s completely based on circumstance. When you’re potentially one position away from contending especially when you have a couple elite vets in their prime (with potentially 2-3 years left in their prime), talented vet QBs with something to prove, and a coach needing to get it done in the postseason…in this instance I would SERIOUSLY consider trading a 1 next year for potentially THAT piece (although my unprofessional opinion is that we can get him for a 2 if we have to pay that big new extension too) to make a serious run. Now, if it was us of a few years ago, then it’s almost a no brainer that you keep that 1 to rebuild a team that is many players away from being a contender. Doesn’t have to be an absolute answer IMO.
The answer is NO on trading first round picks!!!
❤😂😂😂❤LOVE THOSE STEELERS
Yes because he’s amazing at drafting. I want Omar Khan drafting more. I’d love to have Aiyuk, but not for 30 million which he deserves.
Or Dan Moore
No absolutely not until you know for sure you have your starting QB on the roster longer than this season.
Due to GP, the Steelers def shouldn't pay Aiyuk. Don't get me wrong, GP and BRANDON as 1 a& 2 would be , but financially it would damage GP mentality and possibly emotionally if we paid Aiyuk 30M and GP ends up playing better, then GP value would be over 30M when it's time to pay him.
No way I’d trade for anyone wanting over $20M. We draft wr too well and we need a qb beyond this year.
Go pitts We got what it takes to take top of the north❤😂😂🎉🎉😅😅
Not saying Najee is a bust but a 1000 yards isn’t impressive in a 17 game season.
How many first round busts have we had? Every team has bad picks steelers fans think only the steelers have bad picks.
Don't need wr,need a qb
I wonder why Kahn didn't entertain Jerry Juedy since he has spent time with Russ in Denver.
Cause Russ reliable target was Sutton, Jeudy dropped the balls and can't ceep his feet in...
Would much rather trade denver 1st rd for Pat Surtain and pay him 25M+ for 4..completely paralyze offenses
Now Surtain is different. He is close to being the best CB in the game. Him and Porter could be a generational combo.
@@LockedOnSteelers yep, the money is also different. Corner will likely be a draft need next year, it could be similar to that Minkah trade you mentioned. I also like our WR room & i trust our ability to draft more guys .. 7v7s breeding highly talented WRs at an insane rate coming out of college. We have too many homegrown talents on offense to pay before we give Aiyuk 30M, also don’t think his act sets a good example for future negotiations.
Second and James Daniels
its dumb to trade a 1st pick for aiyuk, not only steelers lose a 1st round pick they also have to pay him over $25mil/yr or more, not sure about his attitude either, over time he could become a antonio brown or dionte johnson under Tomlin, its just stupid, save that money for next yr and see if they can sign a top qb in case wilson doesnt work out
use what you got its called coaching first part 2nd over priced talent cost money in which can be spent elsewhere drafting is cheaper for 4 to5 years Pittsburgh is not a place to go for over spending for talent
I rather let the Commanders trade for Aiyuk.. And we trade for Terry McLaurin..
I look at trading for Brandon Aiyuk like this. I think that if Russell Wilson can play at the level he did last year or better what the Steelers have a real chance at competing for a championship. If you add him I obviously feel even better. They would have one of the best running games in the NFL, a great passing game, and a great defense.
I've also heard rumors of DK Metcalf and I believe it would be a better fit as he was Russell Wilson's top Target in Seattle when they played together and I believe he would cost less.
The steelers success rate on 1st round picks far out weighs their misses. Compared to other organizations Ill bet they are in the top 3 in all the NFL. Some of their misses the players were solid starters just not stars, like edumunds for example. I liked the KP pick, thank god we did not draft malik willis like most of the fan base wanted. Overall this team drafts very well.
And look at the draft picks since omar. I think omar has over all done an excellent job. We don’t need another diva we need team players.
It is all about cost and impact to the cap.
Having a draft pick that can be developed from within is the optimal objective while having 5 years of production before you pay big $$.
He’s not in that category.
Yeah, I’m not doing that. I think the whole thing is nonsense really.
You got like 100 WRs on the roster right now 😂. You mean to tell me NONE of them named George Pickens can’t produce 45-60 Receptions and 500-700 yards? C’mon.
Why wouldnt someone value 1st Rd picks over a supposed star player. A first Rd player is a top player who is on a rookie deal and one that you can mold into maturity. That person will be enveloped in that team's culture. You dont want outside teams dictating your culture. Thats being played out on a grander scale with illegal immigration.
Why keep talking bout Aiyuk it’s not happening, ne t yrs 1st going be a DT
They're NOT trading Aiyuk this year, move on.
Lamar is the second best Quarterback in the league and people need to except that
*regular season

@@mike2687 I had to Fight with other Ravens fans because someone put out a BS stat saying Lamar was a inaccurate passer and believe it or not their are some Ravens fans that don't like Lamar and say he's a Running back 😂
Do it. Just retire (Tomlin),then go full rebuild.
