Well having claws that can tear concret and being a risk prey for even the top predator of the place is very much a A tier thing
That tail has another purpose that brings the giant anteater into A-tier, and that's the effects it has on ambush predators. Even if jaguars have amazing eyesight, in brushes (especially at night), it can be tough to discern what side of the anteater is the head. If they guess wrong, they'll either immediately get swiped at by those vicious claws, or they'll get that stance from the anteater, which does exactly what you mentioned it doing; it's the last warning you get. Since their eyesight is poor, they can't be conservative with attacking, but they still don't want to, if they don't have to, so it's the thing going, "try that again, and we'll have a problem."

the t-poseing isn't to look bigger but for better defense and to help with attacking
Ir's both. They do that to look larger in order to detract attackers, and in case that don't work, they can better swing with their claws when the attacker gets closer.
It looks funny to us but having their arms up shows predators their weaponry while also making them look big
