I agree. We used to have a hardware store store kind of like that. They had everything, if they didn't have it they ordered it for you, if they were out of it they called you when they got their shipment in. If you needed something, you asked where it was they'd tell you exactly where it was, what isle, what shelf, how far down the isle. These little locally owned and operated stores are the best.
I am old enough to remember stores like this. There are still some in rural MO. My aunt and uncle owned one. The pop was kept cool in a stock tank full of ice water.
I love this episode. As I child in the early 60's, my more and I used to shop at Farmer's Mercantile quite often. What JoJo said is what my mom always said, "if you can't find it anywhere else, go to Farmer's Mercantile. If they don't have it, then you don't need it!" It's 2020 and that was 55+ years ago. I felt a little bit younger knowing that the store is still there and that the family still owns it. We have so little historic continuity in the world, today. Thank you TCR.
I was blessed to have grown up in a real general store from the late 50s until the early 70s, much like farmers Mercantile! The best education I ever got! Great memories!💫
Jo-Jo! I live in a community in Southern California inland horse country. It is friendly, but I wish it was more like what Orange sounds like. Bless you and yours, and may your business continue to thrive! 🤠
I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS !!!! JoJo you rock !!! Ernie you shine like the sun and the stars !!! Love the old wall phone and the way of life that your store represents - back when people were neighbourly and everyone stood for everyone else. I wish I lived around the corner from your wonderful mercantile.
I’ve been in the mercantile in Orange many times. Very authentic. A great place to visit. Love it and the people there. They have great merchandise 6:59
I think you have to be a true Texas to fully appreciate a story like this one. There's no feeling like being in an old country general store -- where somebody knows where EVERYTHING is. A way of life that has all but disappeared.
It is September, 2020. Things all over America are going from bad to worse. So many cities are filled with rioters, looters, murder is almost common these days. See a place like this makes me wish I lived there, a strong sense of community, great neighbours. So many wonderful people and places in Texas, no wonder Texans are so proud. You have every right to be.

You share such wonderful stories, this to me is the real America...reminds me of a 'trading store' I used to know back in the day in my home country of South Africa
Stanton's in Alvin Texas, is very much like this, the "newest " part of the business is the grocery shopping, but it also has hardware, section, and feed and farm section. Been in business forever!
I remember going there as a kid. Now I live in Oklahoma City,Oklahoma. But I’ve taken my kids there when I’ve gone home to visit. It’s a really neat place
Saludos a yoyo como estan saludos yoyo desde santa ana California one of these days yoyo where can I go and visit you guys nice to see everything of the store it looks like old but brand new everything inside keep it up yo yo keep the tradition alive.
interesting shop. We don't have them anymore. But when I was young we had those farmer's shops where you could find all what a farmer needs. Imagine when that shop was flooded, OMG a costly affair.
I moved to town after hurricane Ike. I didn't even know that store existed. If they're still around today, I will have to look them up. I've been shopping far out of town at other feed stores because no one has that back home feel.
I know those folks in Orange were aware of my relatives Feed Store. Guzardo's in Nederland and in Port Acres. My grandpa had the Port Acres store I spent hours in that store play on feed sacks and just walking around checking it out! I miss those days My uncle had the one in Nederland... I would love to go back!
Amazing! Sooo interesting! Love from New Braunfels, TX! ❤️. We’ll visit next time we’re leaving home or coming back! Our daughters moved to GA after marrying GA boys. They mis Texas every second of every day.
People complaining about walmarts are the same people who seek the cheapest price. Support local business and spend the extra dollar on quality American goods.
Why, will local businesses pay me higher wages for less work? Why should I pay more for less options? Stuff sold in walmart and local business comes from same place.
I think the media and news generally around the world has a fixation over sad news. I am always happy when I listen to watch this programI'm not saying that difficulties around the world or something's happening but I think it's too much sadness to do we forget the good things that happen and the small things that are so wonderful we are too fix stated in the sad terrible all the time and I think we have to find time for the wonderful things in life.
You won’t see that at Walmart! We need more stores like that one in America. One of the problem is people wanting to work. People mostly the younger ones are just to lazy or it not good enough for them. Bible says you don’t work you don’t eat. If the gov. Stuck to that program it would be a better place to live.
"mom and pops are the backbone of our country"...couldn't agree more...
These quality people are becoming a rare breed. We need them more now more than ever.
People that are not from Texas will never understand! God Bless Texas!!!!!
This woman is a Texas treasure that can't be priced.

The direct contact between the store merchant and the customer is the best thing anyone can have .

Wow what a great story.
I’d drive right by a Walmart on my way to the Mercantile. Nothin like it anywhere. Full of stuff and love. What more could a person want✌🏻🇺🇸✌🏻🇺🇸✌🏻🇺🇸❤️
