Hellloooooooo, thank you for the shout out and a smashing video of bookish loveliness. Great books there. Loved The Maid, looking forward to the new one. Xx
Hi Simon, I love watching you. Never stop doing the book hauls. Your book recommendations I have read and enjoyed. I especially like the vlogs with your mom. Until next time. Bye MaryAnn A. London, Ontario Canada.
Awww thanks MaryAnn. I went to London Ontario once. Only for about 12 hours which were mainly overnight. It seemed lovely from what I saw. Mum was here this weekend… guess what, we didn’t film anything, imagine! Ha. So pleased you’re enjoying the videos and thank you for the lovely comment.
Oh Simon, I’m CURRENTLY reading the Maud Ventura. Ok, not going to say anything other than yeah. So, so, so interesting. I about half way through. I’m glad to hear you may be getting to it soon.
Thank you for no spoilers and not saying more. I’ll hopefully discuss in a wrap up or two’s time. Won’t be July’s. Might be Augusts.
Love these long chatty videos! Also YES to Porto, I went earlier this year and it’s a lovely, chill city.
It is booked. Very excited.
Wipe away crumbs or tears 🤣☠️⚰️🤣
So many interesting books, thank you Simon! Thank you also for letting me know about the new Kate Atkinson short story collection, somehow I did not know about it - it seems like I'll have to visit my bookshop soon!
I read My Husband in French last month. I had a fun time, think you might too! It made me cackle in public, which a book hadn't got me to do in a long time.
I was two thirds through My Husband before we left for Porto and I didn’t pack it. Not because I didn’t like it, I liked it a lot, partly because it’s a hardback and I don’t like taking those and partly because I wanted the rest as a treat when I get back. Ha. Hope you enjoy the Kate Atkinson when you get it.
Lots of foil in the cover designs. I like it!
It’s a trend I am most certainly on board with.
Many writers on my MFA are wet dreaming for a blue Fitzcarraldo cover
Hahaha. I am sure I’m in the minority on this one.
I feel like Miranda Mills just read Uncle Paul and liked it. The Chai Time at Cinnamon Gardens book is one I heard of on the channel Curatorially Yours. She actually knows the author which is a parent of one of her former students and she talks about it in a recent video. (I believe she is a school Librarian.)
Yes, Miranda mentioned it in a couple of her videos, and said she really enjoyed it.
Oooh I love Miranda. I haven’t managed to catch up with her videos for a while so maybe a binge is due.
Ghost Ship looks sooo pretty. . . 😮
The indie edition is especially so.
Hello! Thank you for the shout-out for 'Last Dance at the Disco for Deviants'! Hope you liked it
A pleasure. I haven’t read it yet as work reading has taken over my life a bit this year but hoping to have a much better balance next year! Hope all is lovely with you!
@@SavidgeReads - thanks Simon! Have just [very belatedly] tweeted your video!
I'm glad you mentioned Fernanda Melchor's new book. I haven't heard anyone else talking about it. Please talk about it in another video once you've read it.
You should deffo look up Benjamin Green’s channel, Benjamin Journal. He’s fabulous and that’s where I heard about it from.
What a lovely interlude on this wet day more books added to my wish list.
So pleased you enjoyed it.
Just about to start reading Uncle Paul. And Porto is lovely!
Haven’t booked it yet. Still looking.
A banner and a little song first thing - what a treat! 🍍 Another banger filled with book joy and beauty from you, Simon 🤌
So pleased you enjoyed it!
I really enjoyed The Maid too. The characters who were her friends and tried to look out for her were lovely too so I am super excited to read the next book.
I’m really looking forward to the new on. I feel like the first one might need a reread from me which I don’t do often.
Jehovah's Witnesses and disco music -- what a Book Haul opening! :)
I am OBSESSED with the McNally Editions. OBSESSED. I picked up Rattlebone from the library, and bought Emily Dickinson Face to Face, and now I need to own all of them. Have I mentioned I am obsessed?
Michael Cunningham is a favorite of mine. I loved everything I've read of his, with the exception of one that was a DNF. I think you will definitely like him. I have an ARC of Day -- practically screamed at work when I saw that come through.
Loved Yellowface! Hope you enjoy.
Fantastic book haul, as always, Simon!
Rattlebone is one of the few editions it’s tricky to get McNally editions of here as Daunt Books has published it here to so thing some rights shenanigans afoot. Think will be reading Yellowface soon to see if it’s really worth the hype.
I just read My Husband by Maud Ventura and loved it! It’s a good mixture of thrilling and literary and shows the absurdity of the advice given in women’s magazines by taking it to the extreme. Hope you’re going to enjoy it as well!
Fingers crossed. Glad you did and thanks for not giving too much away.
Hi 👋🏻 🤓 a very interesting book haul 📚📚📚
I have the Rose Tremain “Letter to Sister Benedicta” waiting to be read (I think I’ve read 3 of her other novels; “The Colour” being my favourite so far).
She’s one of my favourites. I think I’ve read five or six of her books. The Colour is not one I’ve read yet.
Ooh you’re in for a real treat with The Colour - I’d like to re-read it 😘
I lost track of the names of all the books you discussed that I am super eager to read. The envy is real!!! What an amazing haul! Also envious of your month of reading by whim. Such joy!
Oooh they’re all mentioned in the description box. I’m getting back into the habit of doing that so I hope it helps. I need to work out how I can get whim reading into my staple reading diet. Maybe a whim reading week every other week or something.
@@SavidgeReads That is a worthy goal. And yes thanks so much for putting all the titles in the description box so I can make a list!
Greenland was S P E C T A C U L A R. So much so, that I had read a library copy and then ordered one for my shelves. Absolutely stunning.
Oooh that’s very promising indeed.
I really enjoyed Stay True. So well done.
Ha. I’m not sure I deserve the well done. I think the author for writing it and the publishers for sending it deserve that credit 😉
I'm loving Mrs. S 🔥
It’s great isn’t it?
Fabulous up and coming books and 73 dove street is one of my top this year ! 😊
I’m really looking forward to it and to the event too.
Brilliant haul.
Thank you June.
Yiyun Li’s Where Reason Ends is my go to book to get me back out of a reading slump. Really quick read, very poignant and great exploration of grief. More people need to read it!! Looking forward to reading more of her books too
Ooh if I like her short stories and the novels that I have then I’ll make sure I head to that.
A video on proof vs finished cover sounds really neat!
I find the whole thing quite interesting. Could be a bit niche but could be fun too.
I was eating lunch whilst watching and thought the upside down parrot was a huge gherkin! Elizabeth Acevedo’s YA verse novels are great so this is definitely a 5 star prediction for me.
Hahaha. I just really laughed at the gherkin part of this comment. Hahaha.
Oh I'm so pleased that Ultimo have started publishing in the UK. They're doing the most amazing things. I rarely track publishers, indeed I don't, but for Ultimo I do. They just had their first Miles Franklin winner - Chai Time at Cinnamon Gardens. Which is fabulous, and is not all soft and fuzzy as the cover may suggest.
Hahahaha. I talked about that very book and it’s win in this video. Or I thought I did. Hahaha. They seem to be publishing some interesting stuff.
Loved Glass Pearls. I only discovered it and couldn’t put it down.
Oooh that makes it all the more promising.
Hey Simon! Can't wait to read North Woods when it's out in September! Several September releases I'm excited about actually as Benjamin Labatut's new one is out plus I think Claire Keegan's new one is also a Sept release! Vlog in Porto?! 😍
Hahaha. If I go. I may well vlog 😉 I have the new Keegan, in fact I had it twice but I gave my mother the hardback and kept the proof as I’m not sure on Keegan’s writing. It’s my third and possibly final or her reads. North Woods I’m so excited about!
The Other Mrs. Wood sounds like my kind of read.
I’m very excited and it’s looking 80% likely now I’ll be doing an event with her.
Love the British library crime classic books 📚. Blessings from Colleen
They’re fab aren’t they Colleen.
I still haven’t read the house with the golden door 😱 it’s here somewhere 📚📚📚📚 I loved the wolf den. I’ve got chlorine to read love anything with mermaids 🧜♀️ in 🧜♀️🧜♀️ also my husband sounds good 📚
I’ll definitely be reading My Husband for Women in Translation month this month very much looking forward to it.
If you get too many more McNally books, you’ll have to move the bum vase! (Joke, obviously) I quite enjoy seeing it on the shelf in your videos.
I have Uncle Paul here waiting for me. I’ll be getting to it in August for sure. I also have The Bleeding, which I’ll be reading for Women in Translation month. I adore Orenda Books. I have soooo many of their books.
I will need to look at the new Faber Editions!
I was so excited to see the British Library bookshop bag! I stop there on every trip to London. I love the Crime Classics series. I think I have two of the ones you showed but not Jumping Jenny. As I haven’t been back to London since 2019, I am falling behind in my collection!
Ooh you’ll have to just come back especially for a British Library binge lol. I’m kind of hoping to fill that McNally shelf… the vase will just have to go somewhere more prominent lol 🍑
Oh yes! Uncle Paul. I’m on a Celia Fremlin kick after reading The Parasite Person. OMG. So, I’m planning on Uncle Paul in Sept. someone suggested a tag…I’m going with #FremlinInTheFall. 😊
Oooh sounds like a fun project, hope you enjoy it.
I really liked the list
Glad you enjoyed it.
Am reading the arc of North Woods at the mo and you will love it
I’m really looking forward to it. Have you planted your seeds?
@@SavidgeReads Not yet 🍎🍏
Looking forward to seeing what u think of the oz fiction I haven’t read them either but been buying them for our public library
Ooooh I’ll hopefully report back in the joy too distant future.
Wybornie dużo książek na wakacje 😊 pozdrawiam
Hahaha. Love the term deliciously when it’s in relation to food… and books. My two favourite things.
Hi Simon, lovely haul ! Am going to order Uncle Paul and have my eye on a few others. Have you ever read Paradise Lodge by Nina Stibbe ? That is set in an elderly care home and I think you would very much enjoy x
Ooh I haven’t but I have most of her books including Paradise Lodge on my TBR. So will have to get to it asap.
Chlorine has popped up a few times and I really wanna read it! Because I love the smell of chlorine and I love the cover 😂 Valid reasons right?!
My Husband and the one set in Pompeii are also calling to me.
Wow. You love the smell of chlorine. Blimey. Is this just an excuse to get a pool?
@@SavidgeReads Hahaha. It's what I deserve, Simon. It doesn't need to be huge. 50m will be adequate.
Wait, Hanya Yanagihara recommended to you 😮. Ok I’m jealous
Hahaha. I filmed her giving me recommendations when I was hosting her event in Manchester early last year, I’ve still not read them yet. One day, one day.
AMAZING - I am so envious. You will get there 😃
I haven’t read any of you super haul. I’ve read some great five star books in July.
Little Monsters by Adrienne Brodeur
Kala by Colin Walsh
The Rachel Incident by Caroline O’Donoghue
Close To Home by Michael Magee
Blackwater Lightship by Colm Toibin
Currently reading a backlist book that has been on my TBR for at least a year
I Am Raymond Wallace
☘️👋🍀☕️📕📖📚🇮🇪
Oooh my friends friend wrote I Am Raymond Wallace. I’ve still not read it yet shame on me.
Is that an adult Elizabeth Azevedo book? I’ve loved all her YA ones
Yes. I think this is her first foray into fiction for adults.
@@SavidgeReads I’m definitely going to try
Hi hi hi hi hi hi hi hiiiiiiiiii to you as well . So look forward to & love your videos Ty 📖🪱💚
Hiiiiiiiiiiii.
Who’s the Australian author you are Med to read ? I absolutely adore Trent Dalton & Markus Zusak. It you have not read Boy Swallows the universe, please let me send you a copy🙏😊
Awwww that’s a lovely offer. I haven’t read it but I do have it on my shelves. I’m bit confused about the author I am med to read?
Sorry, I’m your video you referred to an Australian author. I can’t exactly remember what you said but I was curious as to which author you were referring to as I am from the sunny land down under.
I can’t wait to hear what you think about his book. He has a new book coming out this year too. I have already pre ordered 😍
Ouch, red band aid.
Just a minor cut. But fingers don’t half bleed, drama queens lol.
@@SavidgeReadsPersephone room sounds lovely and yes, the parrot character in Still Life was terrific.😊
Have you cut your finger?
I did. It bled dramatically for a very basic cut lol. I’m fine. I still have the finger under there.
@@SavidgeReadsthe red plaster distracted me for a while, haha. Love again from Thailand ❤
I’m not into thrillers ? typically 😳 but I loved The Silent Patient ! And you just reminded me I loaned my copy to a coworker who quit the next day ooof . Blahdiggityblah comment allowance overdrawn againnnn 📖🪱💚
Comment allowance overdrawn? What do you mean?
