A little tip for the raised beds. Before you fill them with soil, it is best to insert a grid at the bottom so that no voles damage your vegetables and their roots, then lay out a foil so that the soil does not damage the wood and it starts to rot, then a few straws and branches as the first layer and then hummus or earth depending on what you have. Another point would be to pay attention to the bed with the tree, to build a box around it, otherwise the tree will also start to rot. I wish you good luck and remember, not everything has to work out at the beginning, you learn over time and you can do it. ❤❤❤

or instead of foil, char the wood [Shou Sugi Ban] to preserve it.

I garden in Halifax…I’m not sure If anyone has ever told you, but the biggest thing a gardener grows from year to year is WISDOM 😊. You just build on it❤. My biggest/best advice is to grow Asparagus…it will come back bigger and better every year. If you start this year, you should be able to harvest half of them next year. The best food for your garden is free in Nova Scotia. Go to the seashore and collect seaweed from above the water line (you aren’t permitted to collect below the water line.).

Tomatoes LOVE ground up egg shells. Also, helps keep the snails and slugs away. If you’re planting blueberries, they LOVE acidic things. I put my used Kcup coffee grounds and lemon, lime or orange peels in and on the soil. Gardening is trial and error. Have fun!

My tip is acceptance - each garden environment works best for different veggies. For example, I've learned that growing brassicas in our garden will attract a ton of bugs if i grow into summer. I'm not willing to fight the bugs, so we focus on other veggies and the early varieties of broccoli and cauliflower (they are all harvested before our major bug season takes over).
Keep in mind this also takes time as you won't always know what works and what doesn't until you try!

Keep an old bar of soap or hunk of an old candle with your drill. Rub the threads of your lags or screws across the soap or wax. Really helps lubricate the threads. No mess. Easy to store with the equipment. BTW the beds turned out wonderful. You kiddos should be very proud!!!

Love the new garden beds! Something to research before placing your growing medium in the one with the tree...make sure that type of tree will not be smothered out if it has the soil around the trunk. You may need to build a box around it to keep that from happening. Best wishes for your dream garden!❤️

Go for it ladies. Good luck. The only tip I have is make sure to get seed from a good source. Bad seeds can make you spend money and make you feel like a bad Gardner. Any invasive plants always plant in a container. Some are better to grow as start plants ( onions as a example). Hope this helps. ❤

Crystal, I was a tree climber for 10 years. I noticed when you’re hitting the chain brake on your saw you’re removing you’re rear hand and using it to stop the chain. Please don’t do this. Rock your forehand forward and bump the brake with the top of your left hand. If you use your right hand and continue doing as you are, there is potential that you can miss the chain brake, putting your hand directly over top of a high speed cutting chain. Stay safe. I love watching your videos.

A tip for your tomatoes. Grow them in small pots til they’re about a foot tall, then trim off all the branches and just leave a little top then plant it deep to where it’s only a few inches tall. Tomatoes are a vine and all those little hairs on the stem will turn to roots and give your plant a ton of roots to feed into.

To help the greenhouse keep heat, you can add polyethylene/or sheets of plastics to the inside of the greenhouse. You can staple it to the 2x4 frame. By doing this you add a dead air space between the inside and outside. This will help keep heat in. If you don’t want to use staples, you can get a tack strip. Ron

Cedarwood, sage, basil, oregano, mint , lavender, leeks, and garlic will help some with your black fly problem. Citronella plants help with mosquito problems and the common marigold planted through out your gardens will deter other pests. You can put these around the perimeter of your deck, along paths you use a lot and throughout your gardens so you can work in peace without as many bugs. If you make the majority of your deterrent plantings perennials like oregano they will come back each year and cut down on cost and the labor of replacing them each year. Rhubarb is another plant that repels insects since the leaves are poisonous. Animals know this and stay away. Rhubarb is a perennial that works particularly well in keeping black flies off of your beans and they deter white flies. They do take 2 years of growth before you can actually start cutting the stalks to eat though. I don't know what growing zone you are in but rhubarb might work there. Leeks , onions, and lettuce are good for keeping carrot flies out of your garden. Crystal may well already know all this and know about companion planting after studying all winter, but if not, companion planting may be something you would find worth looking into.

I also saw you guys nearly sowing all the seeds. Please take in mind that all the vegetables have their own seasons. Try to grow plants in their respective seasons as it will give you the best results. Hope your gardens blooms as your souls. Happy gardening.

WHATEVER YOU DO, don't forget to place permeable liner inside the beds .. cardboard won't last more than a few months and before you know it, the moles will be dragging down all your produce like a freakin' buffet. My first year of gardening was wonderful .. used Mel's Square Foot gardening method .. I did end up using the liner on top of the beds as well to keep the weeds at bay. I also had to protect the veggies from the various other critters who love your pees and your berries, etc. The rain rotted my tomatoes and peppers when out in the open, so you may want to keep these in the greenhouse where they'll be sure to get lots of warmth. Strawberries (ever-bearing) grow well too. Enjoy girls. 💕💕

Use a drill bit a little bit smaller than the shaft size, it won’t be driving them in that much easier and you will not break any.

Base on my experience growing up with a greenhouse attached to my house we didn’t grow anything from Nov to January. We planted small plants in February when the sun kept the greenhouse warm naturally. We never started from seeds. I don’t remember your greenhouse build but it helps to have a “thermal mass” like concrete floors or stone structures in the greenhouse. This thermal mass absorbs heat during the day then radiates it back at night keeping the temps more even. Also, drip irrigation on timers is much more efficient watering plant beds in a greenhouse.

Tree's die when covered with too much dirt or mulch so you will have to lose some garden bed space to make sure you don't kill that tree.

On a trellis you can make them grow into bottle shapes, knots, all kinds of very cool shapes with tons of uses like for storage, decorations, birdhouses, lamps, altar pieces, dippers and anything you can think of. They need to be dried and cured for a year before use-- so jump on it if your season is long enough. Happy growing!

Way down south in North Texas our Spring is very short but also brings me great joy. I love being outside when the temperatures are between 60 -80 and the sun is shining. My Spring wildflowers are in full bloom too. Soon it will be too hot for me to enjoy being outside, so I get it while I can. I grew up in a northern state so I get how long Winter can be and feel.

In The United States, it’s recommended to start after mother’s day which is may 14th this year and that is so that the crops do not freeze. so for future gardens, start seeds inside and in little pots before may. you can start as early as you want. i had celery continuing to grow for 3 years by taking indoor and outdoor depending on the season. good luck ladies 👍🏼

Bees wax is the best lubricant for bolts, screws, and nails! Old carpenters trick, drill a hole in the end of your hammer handle and fill it with bees wax. Poke the tip of your nail in it and it drives easily. For screws and lags a quick swipe across the threads with a block of bees wax is all you need.

Love to see you ladies back out in the garden. You could do some aquaponics/hydroponics in the greenhouse. It uses less water than traditional gardening and does very well in a greenhouse.

Suggestion grow Micro green in the green house for food, make a underground root seller with a door keep food cold and to store food. Buy miracle grow for gardens. Dehydrate food and seal in sealed bags and canning to put in the seller.

We live near a farm, which uses horses. During the winter the farmer mucks the stables and makes a giant pile. He lets friends take as much of it as we want in the spring. I filled 10, 5 gallon buckets. Horse manure doesn't have the strong odor the cow does. It hardly smells at all. My wife adds it to all the flower gardens. The growth explodes after it is mixed into the soil. Also, every few weeks we weed and till the soil.

I suggest buying some packaged calcium and probably chicken manure. The calcium goes in as a thin layer a few inches below the surface, and is probably done just at the time of planting. The manure is sprinkled across the top where watering will carry nutrients down to the roots, and so you can see when to add more, probably every 2-4 weeks.

For garden advice is that I learned that despite how juicy they are, tomatoes like sunny dry conditions, as wetness can lead to blight. But don’t forget to water them once 8n a while. 😂 that’s the biggest thing I learned when gardening. And bees and wasps can make underground hives. I learned that the hard way digging in my garden the next year.

I admire your enthusiasm. Really. I used to garden. Every Spring I'd go at it with enthusiasm, but by the heat of July, I just didn't want to be out working in the garden. And most things will die if not tended. Today I buy my produce. So sad. Don't be like me!

Good Morning Ladies! The garden is going to be beautiful. Last year you both had so much going on you didn't have time for a garden. Just look back at all you accomplished last year. After all you both have accomplished the garden will be a breeze. I have faith in you both. Sending so much love to all 4 of you! ❤
