An interesting point, is that the tiger motif was actually a decal in real life. They were sent over after being made by Disney and that's why it has a dark patch behind it, they had to clean the area before applying it.
Love the build. The P-40 was always one of my favorites. I came to find out the Chinese nationalists that lost to the communists Chinese after WWII were pushed out of mainland China into what we now know is Taiwan. An interesting fact I just learned. Anyway. Another nice build as always.
I have this particular kit which I'll be doing as an AVG machine aswell. And have built a number of 'shark mouths' over the years, my tip would be to cut the mouth decals at the rear of the 'jaw' and at the front three or four teeth that sit just aft the spinner on the underside. So much easier to fix them in sections than spend ages trying to manipulate the two big decals. Very well shot & edited piece. Just got a new subscriber. Best from NZ.
Yes that tail band decal would have had to have been curved if it had any chance of lining up straight. Even then it probably will never look as good as masking it as you did. Good call. Right in the dust bin is where that decal belonged.
I have the 1/32nd Hasegawa kit (Longhorn). It has the round American star instead of the Chinese roundel, and I haven't reseaeched whether or not they just don't want anything to do with the Chinese roundel or if it's correct. I love the AVG myself, because one of the first kits you'd put together as a kid would be a Monogram AVG Tigershark. You always do such a clean build so you get such a great canvas to start weathering on. Very smoothe!
My rule is never use a decal for a tail band ever if you want it to look right. Reverse masking them is the best because it is easier to get it straight and the proper. I never use any I.D. decals for fuselage bands or wings. It is so simple to reverse mask any band and paint will always look better than even the best decals.
Looking absolutely smashing, Jason! Just a question, and forgive me if I missed the relevant part in the video, but were the roundels meant to be placed away from the areas you masked off on the upper wing surfaces? Looks like a super kit. Oh, and who's going to have sleepless nights over a missing triangle? :-)
Those aircraft were originally going to be shipped to Britain, but were diverted to the AVG. The areas masked off are were the RAF roundels would have been but were overpainted or never applied. You are right, it is a fantastic kit. Hobby Lobby sells them here in the States and with their 40% off coupon you can get them for less than 20 bucks.

I agree with you, this kit is an absolute joy to build. I built mine in 2019, and was amazed at how good everthing went together.

The Reich Defense Bands in decal has the same problem. It is better to paint them on. For an Airfix kit this is coming out quite nice.
