I realize this was several years ago yet this video inspired me to look at equipment from a more creative and inspirational viewpoint. I stopped looking at specs and just took the plunge. I hope you will make a one minute review each month in 2022. Please!
The reverb is quite noisy. It has not been fixed, yet. I complained about it to Nord, but when playing it you don‘t notice the noise. I was about to return it, but after making some tracks with a keyboarder friend I was totally blown away by the awesome sound and will keep it.
Elaborate, please! I am an happy user of 2, and besides the commodity of having the sound categories and internal fx, I really can't see any major improvements on the paper. The 2 even has lfo! Is sound quality improved?
@@enricopigozzi1603 For me the gamechanger was the input level. Back then, I used it together with a Yamaha 950 digital drums and I was thinking about getting some amp to bring up the volume for my silent Nord. No, you're right when it comes to the sounds I was pleased with Nord 2. Also, I bought a Roland pedal for kick and that also took me into something very creative. I have started to use it, which I never really did with Nord2. varm regards/Dekranz
I'm considering changing from my Roland spd-sx to this, however the Roland has the memory and storage to play longer backing tracks, like 3 minute backing tracks. Does this pad have those capabilities?
Oliver Brissenden it seems that this and the Roland are two different things. This is a synthesizer and the Roland is a sampler. The Roland plays pre-recorded samples and this electronically synthesizing the sounds
I am going to get a Nord 3p because I have found even the most expensive “DAW in a box” just doesn’t sufficiently motivate me. I used to drum in a band and feel this might be just what I need after creating little in decades. All thanks to this amazing review from an emotional view.
Unfortunately Nord only let me borrow the 3P for a short time. So that said, if it was my money on the line in 2020 unless I was a percussion performer or a drummer I’d say for my needs no. It’s a great piece with some quirks I don’t like, this was an early YT video for me, I didn’t go as hard at companies products as I eventually did. The negatives aren’t deal breakers, but honestly it’s a niche instrument, so how much can you ask for when they’ll sell a fraction of what other more mainstream pieces have broader appeal and R&D money to offset the high price. To me, it’s at just too high a price when I’d use it purely for fun mostly.
Noir Et Blanc Vie thanks man for the context. I’ve watched your recent studio tour and couldn’t quite see it anywhere...to give a little back story, I’m mainly into euro these days but with a couple of synths. I was looking for something to tap in more groovy rhythms, played by hand. I can use my BSP to tap in unquantized rhythms into Ableton but the pads aren’t really meant for that, so I had this idea of getting a perc pad with midi out...but then it’s a lot of money for the Nord just for the pads. A lot of the modelling I’m already doing in Ableton and in modules like Plaits. I see that you’re doing really well taping beats on the Tempest, if I’m not mistaken? Are you happy with this setup even though pads might not be as “accurate” as something like 3P or SPD SX? Cheers
I know this is going to sound the the cop out answer, but, I’m just good with stuff because I use it a lot. So the Tempest has been with me for years and years, it’s the best drum machine, but only because I’m good at it. I’d say just pick up the 3P, but only if you can get it for under $400.
hi Noir! I love your content, it's very unique and entertaining. I'm very interested in buying the Nord Drum 3P, but I've seen a lot of people complain about it being very noisy. Nord supposedly fixed this problem at the end of 2016, but people keep complaining. Did you experience any similar problems? Thanks for taking the time to read this.
MikeTheGrand01 it's interesting you say this, the noise isn't say an "issue" as much as it's just noticeable. The backing track for this video was all done with the Nord Drum 3p. When I was programming it, I said hmm, what's this noise. It's more than some of the quiter synths I have, but it shouldn't stop you from anything really. That's just my 2 Cents though.
First of all, thanks for the response Noir! Yes, this is the impression that this "issue" gave me. Even though it is noticeable, it is still a great instrument worth buying. Just one tiny last question ... maybe it isn't fair to ask this, but would you rather have the 3P or the DSI Tempest?
MikeTheGrand01 you really want that answer, because I don't know if you really do 😈. If you watched my Tempest review I'm sure you know how much I love it. I'll rate it just like this: Nord Day 1: 8/10 Tempest Day 1: 4/10 Nord Day 100: 7/10 Tempest Day 100: 9/10 They're not even comparable at the end of the day. The price, the features, functionality...I bought the Tempest in 2014 and literally, I mean literally didn't use it until 2015. A year later, it's so deep...maybe too deep. Anyway, point is, the Tempest can't replace the 3P, so if you really have the Nord on your mind put the Tempest as your next synth to save up for! Hope this helps. (Tempest is also not perfect.)
Yes, i did watch your review for the Tempest, so I did fear an answer like this one. Both have a very unique sound character, so I'll probably end up buying both ... but I'll buy the Nord first because it's cheaper 😅thanks again!
The reverb is quite noisy. It has not been fixed, yet. I complained about it to Nord, but when playing it you don‘t notice the noise. I was about to return it, but after making some tracks with a keyboarder friend I was totally blown away by the awesome sound and will keep it.
You're a really skilled, eloquent speaker, lol. Added much to this demo/product description. I want this really bad; it's different to other drum devices of similar format. It's much wilder, with the very wide parameter tweakability. And it looks best out of them all, as it happens, tho there's a new Alesis which is a looker, but of course it's a much more "normal" percussion device, lol. Alas, the only reason I'll never get it is because the pricing is entirely out of date. Maybe attrition up at Nord will result in younger staff being added, and maybe they won't be stuck in 1996, and will reduce the list price to a realistic, non-laughable level.
Gitaa A It’s a lot easier to program than the Wavedrum. The Wavedrum sounds awesome as well and is very nice to play with both hands and sticks, but lacks midi. Programming sounds on the Wavedrum is a pain in the a** though.
If you just reviewed stuff, it wouldn't even have to be music stuff, just every day things I dunno mobile phones, chairs, toasters, and put the same kind of effort in with the presentation/humour, you'd probably be famous.
Thanks OSXlanda!! If I weren't a professional musician who tours at times I'd love to UA-cam full time. I love tech stuff and cameras etc. Maybe in a different life. Any Synths you'd like to see reviewed by me in 2017?
I actually bought a drum stand from Guitar Center. It comes with a normal adapter and a back plate mind you so the screws for attaching that are there. It’s pretty good actually, though it’s plastic.
that's cool, using a little filming creativity I see. it's quite bright, you must be trying to get the attention of morning people. I feel like it would make more sense if you opened it at night. or the scene was dark like right before a set a guy gives you some new device and says make sounds brother and your like whuh uh but I've never even used this then you just go for it.
From Collins Dictionary “You use nothing but in front of a noun, an infinitive without 'to,' or an '-ing' form to mean 'only.'” I used it correctly. As in it was ONLY inspiring.
Haha....here we go....yes "Nothing but" inspiring means Definitely inspiring...."Anything but" means Not inspiring ....and dear friend you said "anything but"...

You’re right, it’s a noisy unit...but the low end on this is just great, and it’s a blast to play right.
I love watching these for the volume controlled yells alone.
hey, where you got the stand from/ or how is it called?? looks fresh

You must check Red Means Recording with the Nord Drum 3P.
Robert Barrera you’ll have to explain what you mean more. I made this video years and years ago. I barely remember my time with the 3P lol
@@NoirEtBlancVie just sayin he plays it with the aid of an Elektron device that reveals other capabilities.
