everyone is just gushing over how incredible they look (and i wholeheartedly agree) but let's just sit down and take a moment to appreciate how raw and personal this track is. they're letting us into parts of their worlds that we haven't ever seen before, the parts that aren't as bright and beautiful as the ones we're used to seeing - with hansol digging up painful memories from his past, wonwoo wondering what the purpose of his existence is, mingyu's passionate cry of frustration through song and seungcheol seemingly feeling constrained and missing someone terribly. this is the other side of seventeen that is just completely foreign to us, and the fact that they're this open about it with us warms and breaks my heart at the same time.

This song makes me happy and sad at the same time. It makes me sad that they have to go through hard and sad times, but I’m happy that they feel close enough with fans that they feel they can share it with us.
Updated Theory Vernons Trauma: His is heavily based around being an outsider so maybe something to do with being a halfer. He is afraid of being lonely/forgotten yet he’s boxed in and away from daily life because of the bullying he endured by his school, despite his efforts to be heard. Now he is truly alone and he wonders whether he fits in or not. The wind and drifting sand probably resemble some kind of unstable footing (from the replies) and it can be interpreted into him being unable to fit into Korean norms, which was the cause of why he dropped out from high school. He tried to dream of a fantasy world that wasn’t just him alone and began to believe them until he would wake up, not exactly why he is a very vivid daydreamer but could be. Also coming from the lyrics, it seems he quenched his sadness with music, as the lyrics go ‘Clogging my ear by stuffing earphones with the volume high’ once he realized his reality of being alone. That seems to heavily resemble being in his own space of mind and away from the real world. Mingyu’s: His lyrics depicted singing ALOT so I’m guessing since there was a time some people bashed him for his singing. Thats his trauma. His part is very vague however. Summary: he longs to sing his heart out but is scared of the backlash that will come with it. This is the rope bounding him from breaking free and that is why there is so much ropes in his room. Wonwoo: This one really saddens me. The first lyric is ‘I’m used to being forgotten’ and I believe it points back to both predebut and the time Wonwoo became sick and went on a hiatus which lasted a very long time. He got hate for that when he got sick AGAIN around Oh My era and he eventually started to faded himself out, remaining quiet and in the back. The second line says ‘My immaturity, my doubts, where inside rises the trauma’. I can make a wild guess that the ‘immaturity’ and ‘digging a hole for myself’’ parts goes back to where he received hate for commenting something rude on (i thing snsd’s twitter or smt) when he was around 11. He already apologized multiple times but Knets wouldn’t let it go, therefore his immaturity when younger. ‘My doubts’ probably refers to the time he got sick and began to fade. His doubts and thoughts lead him to that decision. His lines sound very depressive, especially ‘what in the world is my reason for living’ which could mean his thoughts, plus the hate he received, led him to believing that he wasn’t needed, that he was just a burden. Mental fatigue has weighed him down like a leech (mentioned in lyrics and probably why he was tied to the beam) and he tries to find a coping method for it; rapping. He speaks his emotions with a mike and lyrics, and it relieves him, because if he doesn’t, he might not make it. That’s where true Carats, family and Seventeen(also family) come in. In one of his last lyrics ‘Digging a hole for myself, deeper and deeper until I can’t even find my own self. I need a hand to hold onto’ may mean that eventually (if he was hopefully talking about the past) someone stepped in and helped him through that phase, like where he started to regain his confidence in his body and himself around clap era. Summary: The fear and acceptance of isolation and being forgotten. Though he wishes for a breakthrough, his thoughts hold him in the firm belief that no one is there for him, and that he is not worth being remembered. Seungcheol: Recently, S.Coups went on hiatus due to anxiety. Anxiety is heavily hinted in his lyric and the reason could be debt and stage fright. He’s stuck in the future, thinking of what his tomorrow is because the shark loans could be standing at his door any hour. He’s drowning in worry, yet he still wants to sing and rap. Performing was one of his joys, but it soon became a very anxious thing, why? We don’t know. Summary: the reason why he is in a box is because that depicts his anxiety and worries caging in on him and therefore trapping him with near no escape. He wants to get out, he wants to be able to sing without a worry, but he can’t, therefore he yearns for someone to save him for it. Or... at least come inside his lonely box. Again, these aren’t really accurate so feel free to share some theories. The tears bruh. ☹️
For Vernon I'm gonna guess the sand represented some sort of unstable footing, as in not really having anything to identify with. If you search "Vernon Lizzie Velasquez" you'll kind of get a better idea of what I mean. My take on vernon's was that his trauma had something to do with idol life considering he's surrounded by fans (as in carats?? Not saying we cause him trauma but ig the downsides to idol life along with not having much privacy). His rap verse and tone is so full of emotion... and the lyrics- damn his lyrics are just so raw and relatable (go read them). My analysation on the lyrics of trauma: Venron: he is a mixed, and probably faced racism, which is why he had no friends. In his imagination he had a lot of friends but his imagination is just imagination but vernon wished it wouldve been real life. S.Coups: he talks about debt but in my opinion the debt he is talking about is the debt of returning all the love of his fans cause his part later talks about his idol life as well. He is talking about his stage fright as well. Wonwoo: His part is deep. He is talking about how hard he found to live on. And that since he is quiet, he is used to being the “ forgotten “ member. Mingyu: His trauma is singing. A “ fan “ once told mingyu that he cant sing and he lived with that trauma. Thats why he is now fighting it and is the only one singing

unrelated but honestly this mv is so well produced. Everything from the set to the lighting, the way that the director has edited the shots; whoever it was used a lot of really good cinematography to shoot the members. You can see them use transition shots, like when Vernon's got sand slipping through his fingers the next shot is sand falling on Wonwoo and his umbrella. They also combined still shots with unsteady shots that feel like they were shot with a handheld camera, seen the most during wonwoo's and mingyu's parts, to contrast between the perspective of a person in trauma and the observer. There's so many shots with just stunning composition, like Wonwoo sitting in his room, Scoups sitting at his window with slight backlight and the painting in the background, Wonwoo and his umbrella, etc etc. The lighting and colours are all used so well, and with specific purpose to create an atmosphere that's obviously been well thought through. Everything pieces together so well and just. Ugh. There's so many music videos out there, even from big companies, where the producers just take flashy lights and trendy box sets and overused camera techniques to create something that kpop fans have seen hundreds of times, but whoever directed this has obviously taken kpop music videos past the artificial and turned into into the art form that it really should be. Not to mention the song is unique and deviates from the mass produced stuff we see all over. I appreciate this so much, that seventeen has gone above and beyond to excel in every. single. aspect of their profession. Props to them, srs. I stan the right group.

I found this song a couple of days ago and I can’t stop thinking about it. Its been on repeat I’m my head for days. I relate to every lyric but I relate to Vernon’s part the most. He sings about barely having friends and being boxed in his own world. The lyrics “stuck in my fantasy like, dreaming it to be real life” reminds me a lot of my summer when I would sit at my desk at like 2am and draw whatever I imagined while thinking of fantasy dreams or whatever came to mind. In Vernon’s part he also says something along the lines of listening to music and turning up the volume which I did a lot whenever I was sad. I would just blast my favourite songs while usually silently crying late at night when everyone else in the house was asleep. The song is sick and the beat is amazing but the lyrics are really quite sad. The song overall is really good though.

I think more people even outside the fandom needs to listen to Trauma. In terms of rapping this flow is very refreshing and rare. I really love the laid back chill vibe. I think it's hard to rap in slow music that is a mix of r&b and hip hop but HHU executed it perfectly. Also the mv is really great with all the details.
I have a guy friend who I assumed would diss kpop like other guys that would listen to mostly rap , but when I was listening to it during class he picked up a earbud and was interested to hear what I was listening to even though I told him it was a different language. HE JAMMED THE FUK OUT OF THIS SONG. HE ALSO JAMMED TF OUT OF CHANGE UP AND CHILLIN' FT. VERNON. HE LOVES VERNON'S FLOW AND HYPES TF OUT OF HIM (and when I say hype, this dude is really extra, so he was dancing and going oo000OOh or aayee whenever a rap got more intense ) (One thing that is understandable for people who aren't used to it- he commented that they looked a bit feminine, he said it like that. not rude like "what are they, fukn gay?") Here’s my take on their traumas. Vernon - I feel like his trauma is about being an outsider. His lines indicate how he seeks for belongingness especially when he mentioned that “he dropped in 8th grade” so he got no friends considering that he is also a foreigner. Even so, he still longs to have someone by his side but he got no one. S. Coups - Personally, I’m guessing that he is talking about the pressure to do well on stage because many people is expecting a lot from him especially he is the leader. Mentioning how he thinks about the “debt”, I don’t think he talks about the “physical debt” but instead, how he wants to repay the attention, love and effort that he gets. Wonwoo - I think his trauma is about getting lost about your purpose in life. Just going in circles. I mean it’s really tiring to get through the day without something that excites you to keep on going. Thus, the mental fatigue that he talks about.

I mean I know there are a lot of other artists in the Kpop scene right now and everyone has their own color, but when I look at Seventeen and see how much they've grown from day 1, how until now they keep playing around with concepts, how they keep exploring new heights by utilizing how each member and each unit are capable of, I see a very vivid and powerful color. Like they don't have to prove anything to me now, and I know each time they release something, it's gonna be both pleasing to the eyes and the ears. But I still get surprised and think like "They can actually do this?" All their units can be different groups and all bring their own different style. We can even mix them up randomly and still they'd pull it off. But it's different also when Seventeen are one altogether. It's so.... fascinating. It makes me so proud to be a carat. Seventeen fighting! Also daaaaaayyyyummmm Mingyu's vocals, Vernon's rap with the little autotune (??? i don't know if i'm right but it fits so well), S. thats exactly i felt when i first got into to seventeen, my sister one day showed me a song called adore u and i was like 'hey this pretty good'. thats how i got into kpop, after became a carat, i wanted to see other kpop groups, i checked out really big and famous kpop groups but they just sounded like ordinary pop songs but seventeen songs were so unique, i really like how they can go throng different genres and nail it, #proudCARAT

They're really amazing and how we kind of see them in different units with their own colours, or when they cross units, or even better when they feature someone else from other units (like Jam Jam and Fronting) EVERYTHING IS STILL SO GOOD, yet when the 13 of them tgt it's another style of music! everyone is just gushing over how incredible they look (and i wholeheartedly agree) but let's just sit down and take a moment to appreciate how raw and personal this track is. they're letting us into parts of their worlds that we haven't ever seen before, the parts that aren't as bright and beautiful as the ones we're used to seeing - with hansol digging up painful memories from his past, wonwoo wondering what the purpose of his existence is, mingyu's passionate cry of frustration through song and seungcheol seemingly feeling constrained and missing someone terribly. this is the other side of seventeen that is just completely foreign to us, and the fact that they're this open about it with us warms and breaks my heart at the same time.

Vernons Trauma: His is heavily based around being an outsider so maybe something to do with being a halfer. He is afraid of being lonely/forgotten yet he’s boxed in and away from daily life because of the bullying he endured by his school, despite his efforts to be heard. Now he is truly alone and he wonders whether he fits in or not. The wind and drifting sand probably resemble some kind of unstable footing (from the replies) and it can be interpreted into him being unable to fit into Korean norms, which was the cause of why he dropped out from high school. He tried to dream of a fantasy world that wasn’t just him alone and began to believe them until he would wake up, not exactly why he is a very vivid daydreamer but could be. Also coming from the lyrics, it seems he quenched his sadness with music, as the lyrics go ‘Clogging my ear by stuffing earphones with the volume high’ once he realized his reality of being alone. That seems to heavily resemble being in his own space of mind and away from the real world.
Mingyu’s: His lyrics depicted singing ALOT so I’m guessing since there was a time some people bashed him for his singing. Thats his trauma. His part is very vague however.
Summary: he longs to sing his heart out but is scared of the backlash that will come with it. This is the rope bounding him from breaking free and that is why there is so much ropes in his room.
Wonwoo: This one really saddens me. The first lyric is ‘I’m used to being forgotten’ and I believe it points back to both predebut and the time Wonwoo became sick and went on a hiatus which lasted a very long time. He got hate for that when he got sick AGAIN around Oh My era and he eventually started to faded himself out, remaining quiet and in the back. The second line says ‘My immaturity, my doubts, where inside rises the trauma’. I can make a wild guess that the ‘immaturity’ and ‘digging a hole for myself’’ parts goes back to where he received hate for commenting something rude on (i thing snsd’s twitter or smt) when he was around 11. He already apologized multiple times but Knets wouldn’t let it go, therefore his immaturity when younger. ‘My doubts’ probably refers to the time he got sick and began to fade. His doubts and thoughts lead him to that decision. His lines sound very depressive, especially ‘what in the world is my reason for living’ which could mean his thoughts, plus the hate he received, led him to believing that he wasn’t needed, that he was just a burden. Mental fatigue has weighed him down like a leech (mentioned in lyrics and probably why he was tied to the beam) and he tries to find a coping method for it; rapping. He speaks his emotions with a mike and lyrics, and it relieves him, because if he doesn’t, he might not make it. That’s where true Carats, family and Seventeen(also family) come in. In one of his last lyrics ‘Digging a hole for myself, deeper and deeper until I can’t even find my own self. I need a hand to hold onto’ may mean that eventually (if he was hopefully talking about the past) someone stepped in and helped him through that phase, like where he started to regain his confidence in his body and himself around clap era.
Summary: The fear and acceptance of isolation and being forgotten. Though he wishes for a breakthrough, his thoughts hold him in the firm belief that no one is there for him, and that he is not worth being remembered.
Seungcheol: Recently, S.Coups went on hiatus due to anxiety. Anxiety is heavily hinted in his lyric and the reason could be debt and stage fright. He’s stuck in the future, thinking of what his tomorrow is because the shark loans could be standing at his door any hour. He’s drowning in worry, yet he still wants to sing and rap. Performing was one of his joys, but it soon became a very anxious thing, why? We don’t know.
Summary: the reason why he is in a box is because that depicts his anxiety and worries caging in on him and therefore trapping him with near no escape. He wants to get out, he wants to be able to sing without a worry, but he can’t, therefore he yearns for someone to save him for it. Or... at least come inside his lonely box.
Again, these aren’t really accurate so feel free to share some theories.

My analysation on the lyrics of trauma:
Venron: he is a mixed, and probably faced racism, which is why he had no friends. In his imagination he had a lot of friends but his imagination is just imagination but vernon wished it wouldve been real life.
S.Coups: he talks about debt but in my opinion the debt he is talking about is the debt of returning all the love of his fans cause his part later talks about his idol life as well. He is talking about his stage fright as well.
Wonwoo: His part is deep. He is talking about how hard he found to live on. And that since he is quiet, he is used to being the “ forgotten “ member.
Mingyu: His trauma is singing. A “ fan “ once told mingyu that he cant sing and he lived with that trauma. Thats why he is now fighting it and is the only one singing

Everything from the set to the lighting, the way that the director has edited the shots; whoever it was used a lot of really good cinematography to shoot the members. You can see them use transition shots, like when Vernon's got sand slipping through his fingers the next shot is sand falling on Wonwoo and his umbrella. There's so many shots with just stunning composition, like Wonwoo sitting in his room, Scoups sitting at his window with slight backlight and the painting in the background, Wonwoo and his umbrella, etc etc. The lighting and colours are all used so well, and with specific purpose to create an atmosphere that's obviously been well thought through. Everything pieces together so well and just. Ugh. There's so many music videos out there, even from big companies, where the producers just take flashy lights and trendy box sets and overused camera techniques to create something that kpop fans have seen hundreds of times, but whoever directed this has obviously taken kpop music videos past the artificial and turned into into the art form that it really should be. Not to mention the song is unique and deviates from the mass produced stuff we see all over. I appreciate this so much, that seventeen has gone above and beyond to excel in every. single. aspect of their profession. Props to them, srs. I stan the right group.

I found this song a couple of days ago and I can’t stop thinking about it. Its been on repeat I’m my head for days. I relate to every lyric but I relate to Vernon’s part the most. He sings about barely having friends and being boxed in his own world. The lyrics “stuck in my fantasy like, dreaming it to be real life” reminds me a lot of my summer when I would sit at my desk at like 2am and draw whatever I imagined while thinking of fantasy dreams or whatever came to mind. In Vernon’s part he also says something along the lines of listening to music and turning up the volume which I did a lot whenever I was sad. I would just blast my favourite songs while usually silently crying late at night when everyone else in the house was asleep. The song is sick and the beat is amazing but the lyrics are really quite sad. The song overall is really good though.

I think more people even outside the fandom needs to listen to Trauma. In terms of rapping this flow is very refreshing and rare. I really love the laid back chill vibe. I think it's hard to rap in slow music that is a mix of r&b and hip hop but HHU executed it perfectly. Also the mv is really great with all the details.

Here’s my take on their traumas.
Vernon - I feel like his trauma is about being an outsider. His lines indicate how he seeks for belongingness especially when he mentioned that “he dropped in 8th grade” so he got no friends considering that he is also a foreigner. Even so, he still longs to have someone by his side but he got no one.
S. Coups - Personally, I’m guessing that he is talking about the pressure to do well on stage because many people is expecting a lot from him especially he is the leader. Mentioning how he thinks about the “debt”, I don’t think he talks about the “physical debt” but instead, how he wants to repay the attention, love and effort that he gets.
Wonwoo - I think his trauma is about getting lost about your purpose in life. Just going in circles. I mean it’s really tiring to get through the day without something that excites you to keep on going. Thus, the mental fatigue that he talks about.

I mean I know there are a lot of other artists in the Kpop scene right now and everyone has their own color, but when I look at Seventeen and see how much they've grown from day 1, how until now they keep playing around with concepts, how they keep exploring new heights by utilizing how each member and each unit are capable of, I see a very vivid and powerful color. Like they don't have to prove anything to me now, and I know each time they release something, it's gonna be both pleasing to the eyes and the ears. But I still get surprised and think like "They can actually do this?" All their units can be different groups and all bring their own different style. We can even mix them up randomly and still they'd pull it off. But it's different also when Seventeen are one altogether. It's so.... fascinating. It makes me so proud to be a carat. Seventeen fighting!
