I love it..threw the rod to get out of a jam and the fish was still on!😊 And yes I have done the same. Very glad to just hear the water and you. I know a man that when he was a boy caught a fish too big for his cane pole. His dad told him to throw the pole in the water, so he did without question, and then his dad said follow that pole. He did and a 1/4 mile down the river the pole was floating near the bank in a pool, and the boy not only picked up his pole but a 18 lb. bass that got wore out by the pole. He became one of very best fishing buddies in Alabama. Great video and always tight lines. Tony Walkingstick ❤fishing 🎣.
Caught my first fish on a dry fly yesterday and caught 5 before sunset today. Now this vid to wrap up a good day. I try to emulate everything I see on this channel and the orvis fly fishing podcast and Im feelin deadly on the fly
I love this creek!! I always get stuck too at the old tunnel railroad bridge. I’ve been seeing more shady people in that area than I use to see. A couple months ago down there, I was approached and asked if I wanted to buy some weed, I didn’t partake. Great content and I appreciate it, thanks!!!
@hardmanfishing the sketchy footing, and pushing through the obstacles..throwing your gear across the creek w a fish hooked....this episode had it all.
Cool video, thanks for sharing. It looks like an enjoyable time. And yeah, you always have to be safe when you're alone or in a new area. Unless I'm at a trout park or with people, I always have a knife or handgun. I've never been in a bad situation, but just want to be prepared.
Great video, fun to watch as always. It was 80 here two days ago in western Maryland and I was having fun catching smaller trout on some very aggressive dry fly takes. I’ve said it before, I’d love to see something explaining how you hold your line with your fingers. I’m assuming it’s for strike detection. I’d love to hear more about it. Thanks for taking us in this journey with you. -Ben from MD
I would love to see a tutorial on how you do your flip (not really sure what to call it) cast. Especially with streamers. Seems like a technique you use a lot and I’m never able to get it as precise as you do.
Regarding your observation about some wild rainbows in the east having spotting patterns similar to cutthroats, I think you are correct. I worked for the Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife Resources back in the early 1970’s. Before the Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery was built in the mid-to-late ‘70’s, the Department received its trout from older federal hatcheries in Tennessee and Virginia (which have long since been turned over to the States). One of our very senior hatchery staff had been employed by the old Bureau of Sport Fisheries and Wildlife (now Fish and Wildlife Service) and told me that there had been cutthroat lineage mixed into some of the federal rainbow stocks for decades. Sometimes it was especially noticeable on the sub-adult 5”-7” trout stocked into the more remote “put-grow-and-take streams in the Daniel Boone National Forest. I recall catching one in such a back country stream after it had been in the stream a year or more - looked just like a wild cuttbow you might find in Colorado or elsewhere in the west. Beautiful fish. So, yes, I think your observation is “spot on,” if you will forgive the pun.
Keep in mind, if the trout live long enough, they will adapt to the color of the water and creek bed color. I've documented several brook trout differences between 4 different mountain streams in southern PA and MD. In all 4 instances the brookies had very different color schemes on their backs and their spots were very different, They ranged from a very dark green to a camo design to like bronze. The like bronze color was the coolest but the was it lived in was very tannic and light rust color. Their color adapts to help blend in and protect them from predators in the sky. Also, it's possible that fish clubs or others actually bought cutthroats, not all states have the same stocking restrictions on private water or club stockings.
Looking for tips and advice, im new to fly fishing. Yesterday was my 3rd time out, I only get to fish the weekends. I have managed to catch one little striped shiner on a nymph I tied. So that was neat! Any help much appreciated, in middle TN
Stone flys seem to work about any time. Just wondering here but your 10ft 6” rod , fishing smaller streams do you have more tree snags ? I use a 7ft rod in smaller streams. Thank you for sharing. Really nice video entrance at the beginning.
Good choice. Unfortunately, you just can’t trust or risk situations like that vehicle you encountered in this world. Consider getting yourself a concealed carry permit if you don’t already.
How big is your leader? It looks like your slack line is mono and not even flyline. Maybe it’s just how it looks. Just interested in your line set up I guess
Love seeing the gear that you used ! Gives us newbies on fly fishing ideas on what to use when we’re unsure. Love the content been learning tons and catching even more fish ! Keep up the great content !🎣
I wouldn’t say that, I think I’d say I’m usually tight lining nymphs more so than streamers. I have fished jig streamers some recently but it’s definitely not the main way I fish
No way that 1st fish was a wild rainbow. Stocked hold over maybe, but not a wild in that creek. The small ones are differently wild because of the size. For those fishermen in low water areas and haven't seen water in a while, do the fish a favor, don't fish. I know it's hard to refrain from something we all love to do but the fish are stressed as it is from low water and warm temps (low oxygen levels in the water) and the fact that they are huddled in pools because of it. Let them be and increase their chances of survival.

That’s awesome!! Congrats!
I love the no music videos and fall atmospheric shots. 🧡

The Dink under the bridge really said I'll unsnap you if you deal with this guy for me!
Good show
You're the best, Mr. Hartman.
Thank you!
Our trout season is done on most fisher's until April here. Orvis is made in Vermont 👍 (1856) Enjoyed 🎣
Love it!
love the videos bro, really made me start fly fishing. thank you!
I can't believe that your setup is super simple. Great job. The best fishing YT channel.
Thank you so much!!
Congrats on 100k dude! Getting that many purely off of trout fishing gives me hope lol
I love fishing that stretch didn’t know you fished it great video!
I prefer fishing over hunting if possible. Catch a nice Rainbow, just don't get shot while you're at it..
That was some hard fishing! Thank goodness your reel didn't land on a rock. Thanks for sharing.
The reel survived!! Thanks for watching!
@hardmanfishing the sketchy footing, and pushing through the obstacles..throwing your gear across the creek w a fish hooked....this episode had it all.
CONGRATS ON 100K🤩🤩🤩
"What a crap show!" I busted out laughing...that's fishing!
No doubt about it! Always something going wrong 😂
Enjoyed this vid. Looks like you're ready to move up to skyscraper ledges. Practice makes perfect.
You aren’t kidding 😂😂😂
I am trout fishing myself since it's been very warm here in CT. I picked up two before dark on EZ-egg pattern..
Another enjoyable vid Buddy, and don't think nobody noticed the shinny thing on your left hand! Congratulations ❤
Thank you!! Just got married last month!

@hardmanfishing Agreed.

Enjoyed the vid, didn't miss the music. 😉
Thank you! I’m sure I’ll have more no music videos coming
good video, nice little bit of acrobatics😀
Great vid. Do you just run straight 4x for nymphing or do you use an indicator or euronymphing line?
Slow down especially in low slow water. These aren’t dumb bass. They are skeptical trout. Let them eat.cheers,Chet
Love your videos you should post your hunting videos, I would love to watch
Loved the video. Want to try soon but how do you know when they eat? Can you feel it?
Could you please have a setup video? I am very new in this hobby and would like some tips from a good fisherman.
Those were some nice wild rainbows! It's kind of hard to find them around here (majority of 'bows are stocked in these parts)
Looking for tips and advice, im new to fly fishing. Yesterday was my 3rd time out, I only get to fish the weekends. I have managed to catch one little striped shiner on a nymph I tied. So that was neat! Any help much appreciated, in middle TN

So, Jon is actually human. I was beginning to think he had some sort of super power as "IXTHOUS MAN." A man who thinks like the fish he stalks.
I've used the old rod throw maneuver many times myself!
Ur almost at 100k🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 love ur vids
SO CLOSE!! Thanks for watching!
Subscribe people! Lets get Hardman fishing adventures up to 100k!
I agree!😂

Hey man can you do a full equipment walk through for your camera gear and mic?
What flies should I use for winter Rainbows and Browns? Also you are my favorite fishing youtuber🎉
Depends on where you’re at!! Stoneflies, caddis larvae, and rainbow warriors always work for me on the winter though. Thanks for watching!
@ Ok, thanks!
looked like stocked fish.
I caught one last year. It was 18 inches long in the bottom of its gills on the white part was red in West Virginia
How big is your leader? It looks like your slack line is mono and not even flyline. Maybe it’s just how it looks. Just interested in your line set up I guess
Yep it’s mono! I was just using a mono rig in this video
Just getting into fly fishing, I assume you use barbless hooks??
The trash on the trees makes me sad.
Love seeing the gear that you used ! Gives us newbies on fly fishing ideas on what to use when we’re unsure. Love the content been learning tons and catching even more fish ! Keep up the great content !🎣
Glad you’re enjoying the content! I’m trying to make sure I add in my gear in these video, or at least the flies
What do you film with?
John. Is it fair to say that the main way you fly fish for trout, at least in W Virginia, is tight lining (high sticking) jig streamers?
I wouldn’t say that, I think I’d say I’m usually tight lining nymphs more so than streamers. I have fished jig streamers some recently but it’s definitely not the main way I fish
That stream would have been perfect for a tenkara rod.
you should make a deer hunting video
I’d love to but filming them is pretty difficult
Idk how you walked around that wall and didn’t fall in the water..
great video, join the crowd on the hear was 68 this morning at 5am and it got up to 78 this afternoon didn't hunt myself.
pick up the garbage. always.
Sorry fishing 🎣🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🎣
