"leaving this world is not as scary as it sounds"
that is truly haunting
To be honest it isn't actually that haunting or scary to me. Its a rare moment of Richard being caring. He told him what would happen and how there was no way to stop it. He was comforting him.
@@thesolidestsnake true but if you take that out of context it could sound scary
@@thesolidestsnake he is get personalty of people who he posseses
I found it oddly comforting.
@@thesolidestsnake Since Richard as a character is essentially a manifestation of Jacket's thoughts, while also being a supernatual angel of death type being, this is the way I look at it:
Jacket never knew what Richter was going through in his personal life when Richter went to assassinate him and killed Girlfriend. It's hinted at in the intro to the hard mode that Richter is sorry for what he did to Jacket, but he never got the chance to apologize to Jacket himself.
(I'm going to go out on a limb and assume Jacket and Richter never spoke in prision, either because they didn't know the other was there or Jacket refused to talk to Richter or maybe the guards wouldn't let them talk because of their history, idk).
Richard, on the other hand, knows that Richter is sorry for what he did, and knows that Jacket never got the apology from Richter. This could've been leading Richter on and on inside his head, knowing that he'll never make peace with it. Going back to the intro to hard mode, Richard thanks Richter for his apology, but undercuts and doesn't really accept it since he's not Jacket.
All this to say, at the end of the game, Richard knows what's coming and knows that Richter is still feeling guitly about what he's done up until this point, so Richard decides to comfort him and only him in his last moments so he feels at peace, knowing that he's done everything he can do and there is nothing more to worry about, almost as a way to say: "I know I'm not Jacket, but if he was here right now, he would forgive you for what you did. You can let go of it now and make peace with yourself, there isn't a point to fight your thoughts any longer."
But that's just my theory
The main menu is Miami getting nuked but when I first started playing I thought it was a storm or hurricane and now that I think about it it’s so disturbing
I felt the same but the music was too depressing to be that so kinda assumed that in my mind.
Thought about that too when the trees start to move and after the ending there is a hard mode press that and everything is in ruins
Yeah it's really brilliant foreshadowing, you see the ending before even playing the first level.
And the hard mode menu is the aftermath
So Im right there was a nuke

@@steampunkastronaut7081 did you just not pay attention during the second game or?
Something a lot of people don't realize is that the game's ending also reflexes on one of the most controversial parts of the story, which is the point of view of each character. For example we all feel sympathetic about The Henchman even though we spend a lot of time killing hundreds of other Russians who also must have a backstory each, but we don't care about them because we couldn't see things from their POV. In this case, the ending can look pretty forced and unrelated at first, but quickly makes sense since it implies we are watching the consequences of a group of unknown people's actions on the rest of the cast, and those actions would make sense if the game was about the General's crusade up to that point, just like the second game heavily relies on telling the consequences and influence of Jacket's actions in the life of everyone else. It all wraps up in the end
Plus in the end, no one cannot escape Fate, no matter how much they Kill or commit genocides
The game does have violence or murder but doesn't glorify it if you look deeper into the story
Because no matter what, no matter how much we Wanted to change each of their fate, they'll just.. Die, No more restart, Just a simple death in the end

“Leaving this world is not as scary as it sounds” has really stuck with me
So you mean to tell me in the two branching timelines. Jacket either dies in prison from a nuclear bomb, or gets his head smashed in by Biker in the alternate story...
G r e a t
It’s actually not two timelines, it’s a simple answer but if you want you can think it’s that. The actual way it went was pretty much drugs and dreams and shit, during that part Jacket was still in a coma, and for the Biker he was in heavy drugs just before he left to go there, and when playing the second game you can see that biker has a large scar on his face, pretty much implying that jacket mostly won but he was in a coma and didn’t remember it that well
That and the entire reason the Janitors sent Richter to kill Jacket was that he failed to kill Biker.
Turbo Tastic exactas if you read into every little thing it all just unfolds in front of you
Yeah... you’ve got the story completely wrong.
Or somehow survives both and robs banks like in payday 2
I think Evan, The son, Richter and Pardo got a "happy ending"
Evan either completes his book, or his wife and kids return. The son, was on drugs. The only thing he remembered was walking towards Valhalla. Not aware the russian mafia has now completely collapsed, so in his memory. He accomplished his goals. Richter got to live his remaining days in Hawaii, with his mom, and as you heard. He accepted his death, he was happy, Fullfilled. While Pardo was in a stressful situation, he was very drunk. He never got caught, never faced punishment. In its own twisted way. He won.
I disagree that Pardo "won". If you think about his motivations, which were to get famous as the miami mutilator, he failed miserably. It wasn't about if he got caught. In fact, that should've been at the least of his worries due to everyone's attention being focused on Jacket and his trial. Judging by how we never see a headline about the Miami Mutilator anywhere during news type segments of the game, it's safe to assume that no one gave a shit about what he did. In all honesty, I'd say Richter was ultimately the only one with a happy ending, because he knew of his fate and accepted it without fighting. Pardo died a paranoid, drunk, and cowardly man. Even though Evan spent his last few moments with his family, he never had the same knowledge of Richter about his fate, so he ultimately died ignorant. So overall, I'd say Pardo completely lost in terms of achieving what he wanted.
And Son was depressed from the beginning so he never could have won, he didn't even like the mafia thing he was in just for his father, the only thing that may have given him relief was avenging the Henchman but he didn't know that he did.
Pardo died in fear and with nobody on his side, while Son died for something that never mattered. Don't know if you can really call that "happy".
Gotta get a grip!
That Dude Guy What is Grip btw

(Edit after 2 years):
Nah looking back to this comment that gets a reply like monthly, biker couldnt have stopped shit, cuz the 50 blessings guys were just 2 cogs on a giant operation that was already being carried out
he just dissapeared after HM1 right?
@@Daniel-bu6hx Yep, he went into hiding, You can see him on hm2 in jacket's trial and in the bar of broken heroes
There were so many moments where 50 blessings could've been stopped, but the ones who could've stopped them were either too weak, too frightened, or just plain too stupid to realize it. So they were always going to get their way sadly.
So Bikers seperate kinda timeline where he kills jacket and then kills the janitors is the best possible ending?
@@etan7852 well, he doesnt quite kill jacket, they both got really hurt and thought they killed the other on Their minds but both stayed alive.
But, if biker canonically chose to kill the janitors 50 blessings wouldnt exist so the chance of the nuclear war happening would be pretty low since they are the managers of jacket's killings, and with less people following jacket's steps (like Jake or the fans), it could be less probable that the incident with the president would happen
I used to have a grave fear of death, like it would often keep me awake at night and breathing heavily in fear and stuff.
When I reached the ending of hotline Miami 2, richards words gave me some kinda peace. He’s right. Leaving this world is not as scary as it sounds.

There are two possible Evan endings. Not doing anything with Evan's storyline to reunite him with his wife leads to the ending displayed in this video. This is a sweet bit of irony, as _not_ caring about the story had Evan working more on his story about the Miami Mutilator and Jacket. Too bad either way it's all for naught.
Personally, I think the one where he spends time with his family is better
@@atomnum9 yeah, even though I knew that everyone were about to die, I felt happy for him
I never knew Evan had alternate endings. I got the one where he was with his family. I thought it was nice, in a dark kind of way. He's happy, enjoying his time with them, then they all instantly get glassed. They didn't see it coming. They weren't worried at all. Just living in the moment.
@@SofaKingStupid Yeah when you have to call his wife, there’s another option to go to the typewriter instead and get back to his work on his book
I prefer the ending where he works on the book. It may be worse, but it makes Richter's choice at the end better i think, he was the only person to finally realise he couldn't fight his fate, and Richard is glad

I like to think that after the events of Hotline Miami 2, a new America was born from a couple of survivors that didn't die from radiation poisoning after the initial blast(s), and Jacket somehow was one of those people. This eventually ended up leading to the modern-day America, and since Jacket became essentially isolated from everyone he knew, he went completely off the rails and returned to his violent lifestyle, which in turn lead him to knock at Bain's door to become a member of the Payday gang.

If Hm2 is a sequel, then Is the guy who took care of his mom the same guy who tried to kill Jacket in Hm1, or did they just reuse his face and hes a different person? I thought he died in Hm1....This ending left me confused.
I actually didn't know there were different versions of this ending. That's pretty interesting.
And as for the bald guy who took care of his mom, that was Richter , in Hotline Miami 1 when you go to the police station and kill all the cops and face Richter, you could either kill him or let him live by simply walking away after talking to him. I guess in Hotline Miami 2 made it that Jacket spared Richter's life.
The game's story still confuses me but i'm going to try to beat it again from the start to understand it a bit more. And hopefully to get a slightly different ending like yours.

I think it depends on what you do as Evan. When you find the letter from the wife you have the option to go to the phone or the typewriter. If you pick the phone evans sits there with his family, when you pick the typewrite he will write at the end. Also the text from the TV wil be slightly different

HM2 is kinda weird with regard to who's alive from HM1. It's actually an option whether or not you kill ritcher in HM1, and even if you do hit him he just says I DESERVED THAT nd doesnt like explode into blood and guts like a corpse. I assumed he died too but HM2 assumes he doesnt. Also, to muddy shit even worse, biker is out front of jacket's trial, so BOTH biker and jacket lived through HM1 apparently.
HM2 is both a sequel and a prequel. You play both after and before the times of the first game.
