I found the almost perfect solution for my audio mixer that requires +/-18.5V. I bought a +/-15 and hacked it for 18V. Search eBay for: AC-DC Switching Power Supply Board Module AC110V 220V 230V to DC ±5V ±12V ±15V $7.50

The power supply looks very nice and professional.
I believe that the 3 pin component is an TL431 regulator.
An Vb-e multiplier will give a bad temperature stability.
I think I can even read the 431 on it

I have several similar mixers under the Behringer brand. The last I got was an untested 1202, boxed, as new, but without PSU (suspicious!) which I won for £10 from eBay. I found it worked perfectly with one of my other PSUs, so I found that here in the UK at lest you can get new replacement 18-0-18 V AC supply from eBay or Amazon for ~£7 delivered.
Whilst researching for the replacement I found from the schematic that they required an 18-0-18 AC supply - the AC is used internally to create the 48V phantom power for the Microphone input.
Are you sure the phantom power is working correctly with a DC supply?
Well I used it on a bench supply first many months ago and it work fine so I assumed this is the same. The phantom power led lights and it works just fine with a BM800 microphone. I decided to measure it due to your comment. Well it only gives 16V phantoms, not the 48V. The BM800 only needs >12V to work. I'm not sure about the other mic I have but it might be fine at 16 also. There are old mics that definitely need the 48. Guess I got lucky.

I order so much on eBay it's taken a while but have tracked it down to August 2020 when I got one for £7.99 - unfortunately the seller is no longer around and the cheapest I can find is now £18 delivered! The model is a PSU3-UK (240v), but the cheapest I can find in the US (120v) is this one:

The mixer I won was a UB802, not a 1202, but they seem to use the same PSU, which are transformer based & if I remember correctly the mixer only required a few hundred milliamps so shouldn't be that difficult to create.
The way the 48v phantom supply is derived is quite interesting and the path through the mixers internal supply diodes would explain how you're getting 16v.

Nice hack. Could also get some suitable transformer and build your own +-/- regulated supply but this is easier and probably cheaper if the switching noise is under control.

Mixers, equalizers and pre amps do not actually use + and - 18 volts dc its normally regulated to + and - 15 volts dc linearly anyway.
