Thanks for the great video ! That is the safest most conservative video I have seen on the heat gun method. When I learned I left the boot assembled and heated the point very carefully with it on my foot but very close to the pressure point because I did not need to heat the whole boot. Then used a rounded properly angled piece of metal to apply pressure on the inside while I cooled it into place with a cheap hair dryer that had a cool setting. Last, I checked all my skates both hard shell and soft for sharp points inside near the frames where the side of my instep needed to slightly articulate as well as the ankle joint that needs to fully articulate and sanded those sharp edges down with coarse sand paper. That got rid of a bunch of pressure points without having to mold those points.

I had the same problem with my flying eagle F7s. My ankle pain got so mad that I had to take a break for a month to let my ankle heal. I wonder if the plastic is thicker on the F7s, because I tried the same thing a few times, but still wasn't able to get the space I needed. I ended up wedging a small wooden block on the inside where my pressure point was, then heating from the outside. Worked like a charm.
Well done for attempting this method & I'm glad it worked out for you. I tried it myself a couple of years back, but I wasn't as patient with the heat gun & I made a right old mess of a job (new boots a couple of sizes up were required with a really good liner). I like the way you shot this vid.
I should probably add (in case it helps anyone)..that the boots causing the problem were the powerslde imperial megacruiser pro (125mm). The boot I replaced it with was the Powerslde boot that comes with the off-road 125mm skate. I haven't had a problem with these in nearly 3 years - having done 5 marathons & several trips each week.
Thanks for watching. I think taking it steady with the heat gun is the key. And also repeating several times rather than just trying to push the shell out in one go. It's great you have a pair of skates you are so happy with.
Thanks so much for this! got these skates 2 weeks ago and have the same problem on the inside of both ankles. They are great skates and now i know how to sort the pressure problem!

For heat molding of foam on soft boots (like powerslide swell) is even a hair dryer enough. I heated up carefully from inside and outside and took the needed time. 👍
@@whittyskater Yes, right boot took me 30 minutes, left boot even more. Yea, also look at all the sharp edges on the inside of the Swell boots. You can feel them and once you do you will wow, ouch. Just sand them down till not sharp and that will help you with many of the points. As far as the heat gun, I did my Swell boots wearing them but as this video says very carefully. I tried the hair dryer method first and it did not work well at all. Heat gun worked great. If you use it with the liner in and on method just be sure and put a wash cloth on the side so you don't damage your liner. Also, wear gloves. Again be very careful with the heat gun on low setting and put it pretty close to the pressure point. You don't need to heat the whole boot just that one little spot. Why would you want to remold the whole boot for just the small point. (If you want refit the whole boot use the oven method that Powerslide has a video for.) Then you can push it from the inside with gloved hand while you cool it off with the cheap hair dryer on the cool setting.

Nice! I have similar issue with my Twister Edges, will definitely consider this. Though, maybe you pushed it out too much? I would try 1st with just a millimeter. As already said, very good work for the community, thanks!
I did have 2 attempts with this. The first time I just pushed them out about 2mm. This was not quite enough to stop the pressure point so I pushed them out again another 2 to 3 mm which did the trick!
Well done, ideal on hard shell boots, I tried to mould crappy powerslide kaze using turned wooden formers and g cramps. No use 🙄. Traded the ankle biting sods. SEBA far better.
Hi , I have the Kaze sc 110 and have problems with inner ankle pain, but I found that it's actually the cuff that is causing the pressure on the ankle, not the boot itself. I don't know yet what to do about it but I'm thinking of heat bending it a little bit like in the video.
Hi. I bought those skates, after a few hours skating ( learning how to skate) I get 3 massive blisters on my inner part of the feet in are where 45-degree strap fixed and black ankle strap fixed. Any suggestions on how to avoid getting blisters next time?
If you are new to skating you might just need some time for your feet to harden up a bit. It's quite common to get blisters when you start. You could try some ankle booties. Alot of people have recommended these. They are supposed to protect your ankle area a bit.
Hi WHITTYskater, when you place your foot into the empty plastic boot, do you totally rest it on the footbed or do you hover it slightly up as the size of the liner needs to be taken into account.
Heyy. I have the RB Cruisers and there is a nasty pressure point just above my left ankle . If i stuff 2 folded socks on my ankle, the pain goes away but i think i lose some accuracy that way. I have to buy a heat gun to try this !!
I received mine this week and I love them. I upgraded from a cheaper, old, softboot model and the quality of these was almost shocking to me: heavy, ridiculously fast and those Hydrogen wheels feel like they would grip to the ceiling. Unlike many people I do not experience those pressure points under my ankles, but I have one issue with the skates: my legs are pretty thin and I cannot tie the upper buckle tight enough, so I don't really have much ankle support. Also, those plastic flaps are confusing, no idea which one should be in front of the other and they prevent me from tightening the buckle there. Did you also experience this in the beginning? Thanks for the great videos, I especially love your flows and want to go out and skate after every one of them!
That's awesome you got a pair and are loving them! They are really good skates. Glad you've not had any ankle issues. With regards the flaps I actually cut mine down a bit. This will allow you to get the ankle cuffs closer together. I've done this with other skates as well. Thanks for watching my videos!
@UCPMniodzBQdCHXioDnT3XAw I'll have to check as I can't remember! My skates are in the garage at the moment so I'll double check tomorrow and come back to you.
So I checked my twisters and I cut about 2cm off the longer strap (flap). This allowed me to get the straps much closer together and make the ankle cuff tighter. I put the longer strap on the outside of the shorter strap btw. Hope this helps?!
Same pressure point problem, same skate, but it went away when I replaced the liners with Powerslide MyFit FatBoy liners & they were perfect. So are you sure it is actually the boot or the liner. I don’t like the extra circle padding thing that is in the ankle of the liners, it is real uncomfortable. I would suggest trying those liners before I would melt my skate!
Hey. I just bought some skates and I wonder, is it possible to not use the back cuff and turn the shoes into ankle size only? Any shoes coming above ankle hurts me a lot and I really can't afford another pair.
@@whittyskater No, i have 7yrs of skating experience, have already owned a professional inlines that had a race boot but it got small in size. and also I currently use quads that have ankle shoes too. I really wanted to know if modifying a cuff boot to an ankle one is possible. As I'm currently not able to afford new ones due to some financial issues 🙃
@@carrotjuice3732 OK so why don't you just try removing the ankle cuff? If its held on with a bolt it will be easy to remove....or are you talking about actually cutting the boot?....if you do that I think you risk damaging them.
I know you probably had the approach of "heat it till you make it" but could you somehow estimate the temperature you treated the shell with your heat gun? Especially at that inner part when the plastic got damaged. How easily is it to leave accidental marks on the shell? I wonder if that material is eligible for vinyl wrapping that requires heating up the foil.
No clue about the actual heat, I just use the lower setting on my heat gun. You just need to be careful and take your time. There is a risk of damaging the boot so proceed with caution.
Hi, I have a question on the skates FR1 and rolerblade twister edge x. I would like to buy one of these skates and I can not decide. I don't have a chance to try them. Is FR1 really so good and you are happy with it. I read a review of Seb FR1 and it wasn't very good with endurance. They were skates from 2016. I ride on the GM metroblade but these skates are not very good. Do not hold the leg well and the straps tear, etc. You could give advice. thanks
Both the FR1 and the Twisters are good skates. But my choice if I could only have one would be the FR1. I find these the most comfy and I think they are a better all around skate. I have not had any problems with the FR1. They are super durable and I would recommend them to anyone looking for a good hard shell skate.
@@whittyskater Thank you very much, so I will try FR1. I like it and I think my crazy rides will be what I am looking for. Have a nice day and relaxed riding
Hi, just come across your video, I know it’s 4 years ago, did you have to mould the top cuff too? I have a damaged ankle and need to mould my boot but need to know if I need to mould the cuff too. I look forward to pain free skating again :) I do hope you’re able to respond. Many thanks in advance.
I am just over a month into skating on usd aeon 80s and my right ankle kills everytime i skate so i will need to try this to solve one of my 2 pains. Atleast then i just have to work on my form to stop the pain in my back
Keep my updated if this helps ;-) I have same skates, same problems. The metal cuff receiver is the problem here i guess... I will do 3 consecutive steps and see if one of them will work: - Heat molding my liners - grind off the sticking out metal edge - heat molding the area and try to push the metal receiver more into the plastik, so it doesnt stick out anymore
@@bernsahr I'm struggling with it right now... It's the boot, paeticularly, the area of those last two holes for laces... I'm considering cut it out completely... the pain is unbareable...
@@chblancoj You could try heatgunning at first. Warm it up for a few minutes (you can also use a hair drayer) until the material gets soft (do not melt it completely!) and then use the head of a hammer or screwdriver to push the problem zones outward. You can also use a pair of pliers to adjust the zone. Another good method is to fix the skate and the area around the last two holes in a position where the area is pushed out and let it colden fixed in this position This helped me a lot, i dont have any problems in this area anymore. (I also downsized with intuition liners because my big toe was crushed but thats another problem^^)
@@whittyskater thanks for your video, I bought a twister edge, wore it for a couple of days and I got huge blisters from its pressure points. Some say it takes a couple of weeks to break in, but this video will help me to enjoy my skate even sooner.
Thank You for the video. Anyone has a Kaze boot from Powerslide maybe ? And have a problem with pain on Your inner ankles ? I think it's not the boot itself that's the problem but the cuff is creating the pressure point. The edge of the cuff is going right over my ankle, I have to leave it really loose in order to be able to skate without pain. I don't know if the procedure that is shown in the video might help but I think I will try it. Maybe anyone had a similar problem ?
@@whittyskater So I have taken the cuffs off, heat them up with a hairdryer(one side) and made a small bent in the area where my ankle sits in a boot and it totally worked, taken all the pressure from the ankle away. Now it's just pure pleasure to ride :) I actually used a spoon and stood on it, it's probably not a recommended procedure ;) The hairdryer doesn't have enough heat so You have to use quite a bit of force to make a dent.
Hello Mr. Whitty, thanks for the tutorial. Do you think this can be done right on the tip. I got a new pair of twister edge 3WD 2020 yesterday, I got too excited and tried them right away on the street, making the wheels not acceptable for return. My feet are 27.0 cm mondopoint and my new skates are 27.5 cm, only problem is my middle toe is as long as my fat toe. I just need to stretch it maybe 3mm right on the tip, because is painful with the vibrations. My concern is that the base attached to the frame gets deformed. Please help. Greetings from Mexico City
I guess it will be possible but I would heat it very slowly if you do. There will always be a risk you damage your skates using a heat gun so you do it at your own risk!
Hiroshi Ikeda To stretch the tip, I would suggest getting an actual boot/shoe stretcher, an old device used for stretching leather shoes. It is designed so that you can slowly turn a threaded rod to push the toe out. While using the heat gun, this would probably work like a charm.
I got a blister and I made it worse by wearing a bandaid over it :( I guess the humidity + friction of not tightening my skates enough really did it. I also skated for 2 hours with the blister hahahahah. yeah, I am letting it heal, and I'm considering heat molding. But maybe I just didn't tighten them properly and that caused friction
Hi WHITTYskater! I have to say that I’ve been in a rabbit hole watching many videos about heat molding skates. Yours by far has been the most illustrative. I recently got a pair of Maxxum edge 90 (which I think are almost the same regarding the boot to the twister edge). I have already used them for at least 6-7 sessions, 1-2 hours each session and I have to stop because my inner malleolus and prominent navicular regions are too painful to continue. Any suggestion with taking the disassembling and assembling process?
Hello, have the same skates and the same problem but on the opposite side. Tried it but i had a dificulty identifying the presure point (more up or more down) any advise on how to find the exact point ?
Trial and error really. I had a red mark just below my ankle where it hurt. I then just put my foot into just the shell (no liner) and lined up the mark on the shell.
I just got this skate and have a pressure point in the exact same spot that you highligted! Do you remember what temperature the 1st setting on your heat gun was? I'm gunna try tomorrow and it would be useful to know
I'm thinking about buying twister edge x 2021 model but I have wide feet (11.5 cm)and probably will have lots of pain in the ankle area, my question is does it worth to buy twister edge x and use heat gun or should I buy FR skates FR1? since you have them both, what is your opinion about that? I tried FR1 on a shop size 44 fits very good on me, and if I'll buy twister edge probably I'll buy size 44, if I buy any bigger probably it will be too big from front size and control will be hard, my feet are 27.5 cm also heard that fr skates are not that durable, what is your opinion about that? I know that rollerblade skates are a lot durable and last long
If you have tried the FR1 and like the fit why don't you just go with them? I personally have not had any problems with any of my FR1s and own several pairs now both the SEBA version and the FR Skates version.
Okay but how did you get the boot apart? The part that moves back and forth for your ankle, I have the same boots, just black, but I cant figure out how to get the damn screw out. Or at least hold the inside still so I can unscrew it
The boots come with a small spanner that holds the cuff bolt in place from the inside. Look in the bits you got with the skates. See my review video on these skates to see what I mean
I have the same problem with my Twister Edge 3WD 3 x 110 mm. but my pressure point ist near of the hole for laces. I dont want damage. Eny suggestions ?
I have always worn knee pads to help protect my knees. I have not had too many problems with my knees so I would recommend using pads. I use REKD knee pads as they are low profile and so don't effect your movement.
I have trouble finding the "sweet spot" that causes my problem on my inner ankles. I guess it is below the edge of the cuff, so this''ll mean I have to mold the cuff too?! I am scared that I might ruin my skates, but the pressure point just sucks, I can't use the skates properly (I've got Powerslide Next)... ;(
The boots come with a small spanner that you hold on the inside of the boot while you turn the allen bolt. If you watch my review video on these skates I show a quick photo of everything that comes in the box.
@@whittyskater I did it bro lucky my brother had powerful hair dryer and I molded the boot then put it in the fridge to cool like I wanted it turned out great finally THANKS TO YOUR VIDEO 💪😎👍
Will this work for my Aeons 80mm? The have metal cuff receivers, where the cuff screws go in. These receivers "stick out" a little bit, so the metal edge touches my ankle in a very painful way, especially if i want to improve my stabilty by tighten my skates. Does anybody have experience on this issue?
Does this work with Maxxum Edge 90’s? I have inside ankle pain issues on both skates even after a month of skating everyday for at least an hour. Anyone try it on these?
Thanks for the tip. I got some powerslide next pro 110 skates where my foot fits perfectly but there's too much pressure on my malleolus bones, probably going to try this with a hair dryer. (✿◠‿◠)
Though the first thing I'll probably do is heat mold the liners since the boot fits fine with just the shell: Heat oven to 175-195F. Place liners inside for 6-7 minutes. Wearing socks, put liners on. Slip MyFit Liner Socks (if available) over liners for best results. Put on skates (lace and buckle all the way). Stay seated with knees bent until liners cool.
This is by far the most solid advice I've come across. I wish I had come to this conclusion earlier. 4 pairs of these and $2000 later, I have to make this final pair work and last. I've heat moulded mine 3 times now, pushed it out by about 10mm and STILL no joy. my inside left ankle still hurts like a motherf#**er! 😭
@@Uhhitsjayy same left ankle pain as you got, was fine until I got the first long session... but for me I think it's the ankle not fitting the stock liner, so I ordered an Intuition V2, which makes it a 600 Euro skate... if it doesn't work I'm doomed, having the coolest skate but can't skate it!

I did have 2 attempts with this. The first time I just pushed them out about 2mm. This was not quite enough to stop the pressure point so I pushed them out again another 2 to 3 mm which did the trick!
@@whittyskater Good to hear that you managed it!
Well done, ideal on hard shell boots, I tried to mould crappy powerslide kaze using turned wooden formers and g cramps. No use 🙄. Traded the ankle biting sods. SEBA far better.
Thanks for watching. Got to love Seba!
Hi , I have the Kaze sc 110 and have problems with inner ankle pain, but I found that it's actually the cuff that is causing the pressure on the ankle, not the boot itself. I don't know yet what to do about it but I'm thinking of heat bending it a little bit like in the video.
What is the temperature of the gun?
Can I use a small flame of fire and move it back & forth to do heat molding
Hi.
Nice video.
I read from one of the comments that you have identified your hotspot by placing your foot directly into the boot without the liner?
Yes correct
@@whittyskater Thanks for the speedy reply! I really appreaciate it! 😃😃
Hi WHITTYskater, when you place your foot into the empty plastic boot, do you totally rest it on the footbed or do you hover it slightly up as the size of the liner needs to be taken into account.
@@jennstuition yes hovered it slightly. As I said in my other comment it was a bit of trial and error to find the right area.
Heyy. I have the RB Cruisers and there is a nasty pressure point just above my left ankle . If i stuff 2 folded socks on my ankle, the pain goes away but i think i lose some accuracy that way.
I have to buy a heat gun to try this !!
Hope it works
@@whittyskater Guess it's an intuitive thing then, no real guidelines for it... Thanks!
So I checked my twisters and I cut about 2cm off the longer strap (flap). This allowed me to get the straps much closer together and make the ankle cuff tighter. I put the longer strap on the outside of the shorter strap btw. Hope this helps?!
@@whittyskater Thank you so much! :)
It was def the boot. I also have some fatboy liners. I tried those out and some others but they didn't help for me
Hey. I just bought some skates and I wonder, is it possible to not use the back cuff and turn the shoes into ankle size only? Any shoes coming above ankle hurts me a lot and I really can't afford another pair.
I guess it's possible but I think you risk twisting your ankle because of the lack of support
Hello Human did u ever try fixing your powerslide imperials? Thinking of heat molding the front and pressing directly down to try and widen them.
I've never tried heat molding the imperials. Would probably work though.
I look forward to pain free skating again :)
I do hope you’re able to respond. Many thanks in advance.
No I didn't need to mould the cuff. I just did the boot. 👍
@@whittyskater thank you very much and thank you for the video.
I am just over a month into skating on usd aeon 80s and my right ankle kills everytime i skate so i will need to try this to solve one of my 2 pains. Atleast then i just have to work on my form to stop the pain in my back
Keep my updated if this helps ;-)
I have same skates, same problems. The metal cuff receiver is the problem here i guess...
I will do 3 consecutive steps and see if one of them will work:
- Heat molding my liners
- grind off the sticking out metal edge
- heat molding the area and try to push the metal receiver more into the plastik, so it doesnt stick out anymore
@@bernsahr im not sure if it is the metal part or if it is just the mould of the boot doesnt agree with my ankle
@@ducatijiggles6793 After treating the metal things with a hammer and make them fit better, i can confirm that its the boot which is the problem...
Another good method is to fix the skate and the area around the last two holes in a position where the area is pushed out and let it colden fixed in this position
This helped me a lot, i dont have any problems in this area anymore.
(I also downsized with intuition liners because my big toe was crushed but thats another problem^^)
Would this work with a hair dryer??
I've not tried but it should do. It will just take alot longer to heat the plastic than with a heat gun.
Hi there I’m just about to purchase the twister x skates do you recommend same size or next size up please 👍
For me i bought my usual shoe size.
I think to find the best skate is you do not need to have or to use heat gun to mold the plastic. Waste your time.
Just plug and play.
You reckon a hair dryer set on highest temperature will do as well?
Never tried it but others have said it works. Might take a bit longer so be patient.
Sorry you are having problems. As the cuff is plastic you should be able to use a heat gun on it. Take care though! Hope you get it sorted.
@@gamma2.2 Hey that's awesome that this has worked! Happy skating!
That's a great idea.👊
For safety remove as much as you can. Just makes it easier. Good luck. It's pretty easy though. Just go slow and steady.
Did you have problems putting the parts back again? I’m just concerned that with the heat the screws and bolts won’t fit again properly.
You need to be careful not to heat any of the holes. Otherwise you will have problems
I'm gunna try tomorrow and it would be useful to know
I don't remember the exact heat setting but I do remember i used the lowest. Best to start low and take your time. Good luck. Hope it works.
No worries I'll figure it out. The video is a big help though, cheers!
I tried FR1 on a shop size 44 fits very good on me, and if I'll buy twister edge probably I'll buy size 44, if I buy any bigger probably it will be too big from front size and control will be hard, my feet are 27.5 cm
also heard that fr skates are not that durable, what is your opinion about that?
@@whittyskater damn, I had a feeling it came with a key but I have no idea where I put all of the extra parts and such😭 ill have to look for em
I have the same problem with my Twister Edge 3WD 3 x 110 mm. but my pressure point ist near of the hole for laces. I dont want damage. Eny suggestions ?
You could probably still use a heat gun but just be very careful. Don't aim the heat directly on the eyelets.
@@whittyskater thanks
@@pawelenartowicz8672 your welcome buddy
do you have stories about injuring your knees? if yes, can you tell how you fix that?
I have always worn knee pads to help protect my knees. I have not had too many problems with my knees so I would recommend using pads. I use REKD knee pads as they are low profile and so don't effect your movement.
I have trouble finding the "sweet spot" that causes my problem on my inner ankles. I guess it is below the edge of the cuff, so this''ll mean I have to mold the cuff too?!
I am scared that I might ruin my skates, but the pressure point just sucks, I can't use the skates properly (I've got Powerslide Next)...
;(
Just go slow
Dang I need this I keep getting a blister there and it always pokes
Genial!!! 🚀
Hello, can I make this application to Powerslide imperial one model? It ruins my bone.
Yes. You can use a heat gun on any plastic hard shell skate.
@@whittyskater Hello, my navicular bone is large and I bought it from this skate is ruining my bone. Or is this bone destiny?
how do i remove the ankle bolts? i see an allen bolt and something different inside
The boots come with a small spanner that you hold on the inside of the boot while you turn the allen bolt. If you watch my review video on these skates I show a quick photo of everything that comes in the box.
I wonder if it can be done without heat gun since I dont have one any ideas... :D I also have twister 80
You can use a hair dryer if you have one. Might take longer to heat up but it should work.
@@whittyskater I did it bro lucky my brother had powerful hair dryer and I molded the boot then put it in the fridge to cool like I wanted it turned out great finally
THANKS TO YOUR VIDEO 💪😎👍
Great, have the same problem.
Hope you can get it sorted.
soo does it removed the shell problem completely?
For me I would say it has fixed the problem yes.
Might do. Be careful though if you are heating the area with the metal fixings. You risk damaging the fixings.
can i use hairdryer ?
Yes you can. It will take a little longer though to heat the plastic.
Does this work with Maxxum Edge 90’s? I have inside ankle pain issues on both skates even after a month of skating everyday for at least an hour. Anyone try it on these?
I would of thought it would work just fine. They look a very similar boot.
Thank youuuu
Thanks for the tip. I got some powerslide next pro 110 skates where my foot fits perfectly but there's too much pressure on my malleolus bones, probably going to try this with a hair dryer. (✿◠‿◠)
Though the first thing I'll probably do is heat mold the liners since the boot fits fine with just the shell:
Heat oven to 175-195F.
Place liners inside for 6-7 minutes.
Wearing socks, put liners on.
Slip MyFit Liner Socks (if available) over liners for best results.
Put on skates (lace and buckle all the way).
Stay seated with knees bent until liners cool.
Yeah try the liner first. If that doesn't work you could try heat molding the boot
I cut mine and now there great:)
Is good
You sound like Toby lerone
Sucks having to spend so much money on a pair and still having to do this. Actual pro tip: avoid these skates if you have wide feet, simple as that
This is by far the most solid advice I've come across.
Kind of hard to do that these days. The stocks are dry. You buy what you can find unless you can wait months on end.
romaDa well he didn’t have a wide foot it was the ankle sometimes the bone is larger on one side rather than another. And customizing the skates this way is awesome one size dosnt fit all
