What strength and conditioning program are you going to try for this next block leading into CIM? Don’t forget the sooner you start doing it, the better. 😉
@@eyc508 Don't know yet. Think I'm just going to keep it simple for the next month with kettle bells, & body weight. Calf raises, lunge squats, core work, etc. And then get serious after CIM with an actual plan for runners. Any recs?
The leading theories as to why you get EAMC are indeed dehydration, electrolyte imbalance and muscle fatigue. So who is to say how you got the cramps, but the matter of fact is you persevered - mad respect and keep running hard!
My man outstanding video i was lucky to meet u b4 your shakeout and just kept telling ya dont get old like me woulda coulda shoulda. I do think 2 days of strength training just 30min a pop would do u wonders at this point and shave a few more mins off. U mentioned kofuzi's video somehow i was in that and the guy who ran with him from halfway to the end.. Meeting both of u 2 legends was amazing in a 24 hour span im glad ur 240 dream came true, keep finding something eric!
Please don’t apologise for 53 minutes of brilliant storytelling, insight and reflection. Worth the wait. (I’ve started documenting my own journey to a sub 3-hour marathon - this channel has been so inspiring!).
You're right; cramping isn't necessarily due to a lack of salt (as your body dehydrates whilst racing, your blood sodium actually increases), nor can it be attributed directly to muscle strength. Most often, it appears, it comes down to your power output during the early miles in a race. Going too hard initially could well contribute to cramping in the latter miles and, like you said, remembering that you're pushing your body harder than you ever have before. Amazing race, so stoked for you!
If you love running, you will love this video. The attention to detail, the care you give, the immersion with a heartfelt intensity…amazing. As I continue my journey to a sub-3:00 (9mins to go!), your content provides so much focus and inspiration. Thank you Eric.
I bonked at last year's Philly Marathon. This video has so many great tid bits to help prevent that bonk this year. Thank you. My opinion is mile 13 probably did you in for mile 17. But I'm amazed you kept it together and refused to give in. Last year I locked up at mile 20, because of early miles that were far too fast. Sounds similar... Good job pushing through. It's far easier to succumb.
17:56 So eerie to see the Kiptum clip. Such a tragic loss. Thanks for a great breakdown, Eric. These videos are getting me to amped to try my first marathon in 4 months!
Congrats! The group you mentioned in the beginning is probably the Abbots Age Group Championship runners. I was part of the group as well. It took us about 45 minutes to get through the gate assigned to the age groupers, so we got into our corrals very late (we were also ushered into the corrals by Abbott people). Those runners you saw most likely deserved to be there and not were “privileged” people. Good luck at CIM!
I can't believe I sat throughout the entire video and took notes. This is what dedication and consistency look like. There was never a doubt that you would achieve because you studied and put in the work. Whenever we have goals, we must ensure that we do our research and apply while listening to our bodies. I am proud of you! Keep up the great work!
I hate long videos like these. Someone talking for an hour, mostly talking head and all about a marathon. And yet, I loved it. I watched every second of it and found it so interesting. Just finished my first ever marathon myself, in Rhode Island. Ended up with a solo run, and can't wait to run one of the bigger ones soon. Aiming at Amsterdam next year, and Boston in 2025. Love to follow your journey, Eric! Hope to connect at some point. Two filmmakers, turned into running should have enough to talk about. And to be clear: I loved this video.
Fantastic video and series! The training series motivated me to PR in my second and most recent marathon down from a 2:54 to a 2:48. Can't wait for more videos like this. Keep it up!
Your videos are FAR better than most docus I’ve watched on Netflix. I’ve been feeling the blues and lazy after Chicago and I’m hyped again after watching this! I cannot imagine running into Des Linden! That is truly wild. I’m also a big fan of Maurten gels. Love the taste and the texture. The only con is it’s bulkier than other gels but I can live with that. Also I was in one of the orange corrals and our security people did ask everyone to dump out their water, fwiw. This was a great video! Thanks for making this and sharing all the details. Congratulations and 2:30, let’s go! 🔥
Love all the inside, I personally ran 2 half marathons so far (1:51 PR), now in march I'm going for sub1:45. Thank you for the inspiration and maybe I'm going for 1:40, who knows. Do you maybe have some extra tips or some must have things for race day?
Congrats man. I am racing my first half-marathon this Sunday. Your videos have helped me learn a lot about myself during this training block and I am "just gonna do the damn thing".
seeing your growth after a tough start to marathoning is so inspiring and just the little tidbits here and there ("keep finding something" "do the damn thing" are now mainstays in my internal monologue) have been so helpful dude, can't wait to see what's next for you!
Love your videos man! My wife is running Chicago this year and it’s her first major (and first international marathon - we’re in the UK). We massively appreciate the Chicago and race day tips 👍🏻 And well done on the massive PB!
Coming down from my Chicago marathon high, I'm already starting to miss that running community connectedness as I get ready for another winter of dark and cold solo runs. These videos are incredibly motivating and already have me looking forward to spring.
i haven't watched many 50-minute videos on youtube in my life. this is one of those few, and definitely the most impactful. Eric, this video (and your channel in general) is so motivating for an aspiring marathon runner and filmmaker like myself and i can't wait what else you can accomplish in the future
I can't thank you enough for all of your videos that I've seen. It's more than inspirational because of the humble tone. Thank you so much, I'm going for a PB this year because of your nonsense 😊
Have always played sports growing up but never got into running - actually always hated it. But decided that it’s about time I give it a fair shot last week and stumbled upon your videos while searching for marathon training. Your videos are amazing and super motivating! Just went for my first run today and hopefully I’ll stick to it and do a marathon one day.
So glad to see all the lists/preparation/organisation you worked on & maybe worried about. As someone trying to figure all that out, I rode every little decision you made. And yes, dump management is EVERYTHING!
When you were talking about fueling around 42 minutes, I couldn't help but think that what you did was enough, and that's all that matters. Can't beat ourselves up too much. Amazing race!
Great report. This was my third Chicago was actually my 21st sub 3! Love affair with Chicago. I'm going again in Valencia in Dec. Thank you for some great insights. Your channel will only get bigger and bigger. 3 points: 1. I honestly believe two S&C sessions a week will more prevent injuries than make you dramatically quicker. 2. Any insights into weight management. Do you think your weight loss contributed to your amazing performance? 3. Did you ever consider taking Keytone-IQ with your gels?
You are in what is about the top 1 percent of finishers of the 2023 Chicago Marathon. I looked up your stats. You are truly an inspiration. I ran Chicago last month as well. Wish I had met you-glad to say that I at least met Kofuzi. Looking forward to your succeeding videos.
Amazing video! Just found your channel today and I must say you’re equally if not more inspiring than all the big content creators in the marathon community. Keep on going with the great work!
Man, thank you so much for continuing to make these videos and build this community. You have no idea how much your videos and community have inspired and encouraged me and so many others to push to the limit and find what’s possible ⚡️
Never doubted for a second that you were going to smash it. Congrats. You thinking of signing up to London now? You can get Championship entry but will need to join an athletics club in the UK that will probably cost around £25. Don't think the application window is open yet but will be before the end of the year
First of all, congrats on the time yours was the first result I checked. Like you I first broke three last year (but I am 53 so I don’t know if too much faster is in the cards). I’ve been enjoying watching you get better. My sub 3 came at CIM. And you’d should embrace a negative split strategy in that race. There are some Rollinghills the first half of the race and it seems like the net downhill is mainly from mile 21 on. Best of luck
Thanks for the update! Since I’ve been watching to aid my half races, you’ve helped me ignite a fire to run a full marathon! Congratulations on the PR.
i can't sit through an hour of a film with a $100 Million budget but I can sit through this guy's almost hour long youtube video of him talking about his sub 2:40 marathon
Hi Eric I finally sat down to watch this video! Just wanted to say I loved the detailed dive into what the race was like for you, I am still very much a beginner (let's call it second grader runner) and it's so cool to get to the part also where you reflect on your training block and some of your reflections are helpful to decide how I will approach my (smaller but also mighty) training blocks! So thank you and I'm already excited to see what you get up to next!
Eric thank you for your motivation for running this year! Im a fan from your main channel but also started running this year, i always love the storrytelling that you bring !!! Congrats on your goal! Mine is to DO the marathon next year ;) and maybe lose some weight before (180cm/85kg atm) because i think its not great for running ;)
Congrats Eric, what an effort dude!!! Giving me super FOMO from having missed Chicago this year. Loved the way you shared your story and progress on this marathon. Keep up the great content! #stripsonthenips 🤘🤣
First marathon for me in August 23 03h23 and it was hot and hard. Gonna try sub 03h15 (Hope 03h10) here in april 😁 Still struggling with the gel , drink etc . But your vidéos are motivating me to work on it and hoping i Can break the 03 hour barrier one day 😁 Thank you and congratulations for your Time. 😁

So happy for you dude. Seeing your progress has really lit a fire under me to get better at the marathon. Can't wait to see how your running channel grows and can't wait to run with you again!
Congratulations again!! 👊🏻💯🎯 So happy for your hard work paying off! Very encouraging for me trying to go sub 4 in my 3rd annual marathon this coming Jan.

so inspiring!! been watching this series from the beginning, and it is so amazing to watch you crush! tracked you through chicago the whole time and cheered you on as you killed your goal!!

@ Ha, great minds! 💡
You're right; cramping isn't necessarily due to a lack of salt (as your body dehydrates whilst racing, your blood sodium actually increases), nor can it be attributed directly to muscle strength. Wow what a journey you have been on Eric. Those last 200 meter show so well how you gave it your all on race day. Such a epic race day experience 🙌🚀
