  • This video is definitely a personal one for the family. One of the reasons why I feel it's important to share memories like this is to hopefully inspire you to continue to connect and communicate with your loved ones. Life is so short that we have to make the most of all our important relationships in our lives daily. I hope you enjoy.
    Pumpkin Mochi Recipe:
    4 eggs
2 cups milk (I used almond milk)
    1 can (15 ounces) pumpkin puree amzn.to/3MpJvu3
1 can (13.5 ounces) Coconut Milk
    2 teaspoons vanilla amzn.to/3rQVcjO
    1 box (16 ounces) mochiko flour amzn.to/3CUP4O1
    2 cups granulated sugar (I used 1 1/4 C. sugar)
    2 teaspoons baking powder amzn.to/3CvdJqJ
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
    Directions:
    1. In a mixing bowl mix together eggs, milk, pumpkin puree, coconut milk, and vanilla.
    2. In a large mixing bowl mix together the dry ingredients: mochiko flour, sugar, baking powder and, salt.
    3. Add the wet ingredients to dry ingredients.
    4. Lastly, add butter and stir again until well combined.
    5. Line a 9x13 pan with parchment paper. Pour mixture in pan and tap the pan to release any air bubbles.
    6. Place in oven at 350 degrees and bake for 1 hour or until top is golden brown.
    7. Let pan cool completely before cutting and enjoying.

What a beautiful memories of you all growing up. It was like how I was growing up. There were 10 girls and 8 boys in our family. It was truly a wonderful childhood although we had hand me down clothing. All I can say is we never were on welfare. My mom worked in the canary and my dad was a nurse aide and ambulance. Thank you for sharing!

I think it's wonderful you honor the tradition of celebrating the 7th anniversary of your grandfather's passing. I live in Seattle, sadly, the Buddhist Church here did a combo of all the services in one shot. They figure people won't want to gather more than just the funeral service. Your videos are lovely!

Happy that you all continued your family traditions. Like a lot of people, I found your channel looking for a hekka recipe. But I gained much more than a recipe. The importance of family should always be first. Watching your videos, it brought back memories of my grandparents and spending time with them on Maui. How fortunate you are to have videos to share and remember your Grandpa. Cherish those times because it goes by fast. Stay healthy and God Bless.

Hi Kalea! Thanks so much for taking the time to write such a thoughtful message. It's wonderful to think that grandpa's legacy continues now in so many people through his recipes. And I agree... it's going by so fast. So much to be grateful for. Hope you are well.

I just found you …when you said your grandpa I was like whoa… I watched you on Pinterest so I didn’t know you were here as well. I felt like I had a grandpa and grandma with your videos before and was so sad when he died. Not having grandparents growing up I didn’t know a lot about my culture outside of what is celebrated in Hawaii so I started watching UA-cam . Your family is rich in love and I think that’s what we all strive for. We all have faults and weaknesses that was mentioned but the strength/love of the family is a clear product of a good man (and wife too)
I am so happy I found you…it was a blessing and no accident! Love to your whole family!

Hi Francine! It's amazing how technology can bring people so much closer together as we find commonality in our cultures and values. It's comforting to know that people are enjoying and can feel so connected to these videos and my grandparents. Thank you so much!

Thank you for sharing, I came across your videos about 4~5 months ago and instantly connected when I seen your parents and your moms siblings come to the big island and talk about where they lived. I was born and raised on the big island and still live here and thought it was cool listening to old stories, reminds me of my elders. I think it’s great how close your family is and love watching you folks cook. Much love and blessings. Aloha from the Kekela and Branco Ohana 🤙🏼

I so enjoyed this video can’t get over how young your grandma looks. loved❤ and appreciated the tributes from the family how blessed your grandpa and grandma are such a beautiful family. Also love your pumpkin mochi I to reduce the sugar and eggs my recipe called for five eggs and I put only three and I cut my sugar by a third. Thumbs up all the way up

Aloha Cari, Reid and family. Mahalo for sharing this with all of us, what a special event remembering your grandfather. This is why I absolutely love watching your videos, I wish I had that same closeness within my immediate family as you have with yours, it's such a special/wonderful thing to have. Will definitely try to make the pumpkin mochi, looks super ono but yikes over $6 for a can of pumpkin, that's expensive (and here I thought $3.00 for a large can out here in Maryland was expensive!!!).

Hi Paula! Thanks for watching this latest video! You have a wonderful family as well! Glad I got to meet your mom and sister. I believe you're definitely the glue that keeps everyone together. Can you believe the price of a can of pumpkin! So crazy.

Love your video of your family special gathering for grandpa brings back a lot of memories of when my grandparents were alive and they were the focal point for all our families gathering and enjoying the time with loved ones. Keep up the tradition, like you said life is short and we need to enjoy the time we have with our families and love ones. The Pumpkin mochi looks Ono too.
