*So amazingly quiet and **Fastly.Cool** in my room! 42db is at a whisper level. I bought 2 and installed myself.Very sturdy bracket and easy to adjust to fit windows of different size. Absolutely fabulous units!!*
Had a repairman come out and fix a different problem with my AC. We live in Vegas where the AC is a
MUST in the summer. He told me the same thing...with a wink. Like never pay someone to come clean it, just hose it off, be sure to pull the fuse out first. Work from top to bottom. Nice to know I had an honest repairman.
JRock Nelson and he'll get blessed more gor not trying to rip people off
Well he lied to you. Unless you are gonna open it up and clean from inside out hosing it down won't do the job.
"My wife's mowing the lawn now". Congratulations sir.
:)
True god
High five your wife moving grass
I like mowing 🤷♀️
I have been a homeowner for over 25 years and had not idea I was supposed to do this. I did it this morning and already feel the difference. Thank you. have a wonder day.
The design makes this AC a possible alternative to ductless DYI systems. It works great. The remote control could be more visual aid oriented like a backligh design. Is impossible to see the lcd at least for me. Easy install ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx_hHgTlzH3uk31Fe2RVS3xEbXHGaN_z5Tation. Came on time . Great comfort around the house 5 🌟 again. Follow mfg instructions for care and all and this should be the only AC you need for those of is that don't live in new homes with central AC
Suggestion, close the electrical box after pulling the fuses. Especially since you are working around it with a hose. There's still a couple hot terminals in there. Best to close it and stay safe.
Dave Messer not to mention pulling fuses under load lol
Dave Messer lol I just watched this video and did exactly that. Got me a lil zappy zap
No doubt Dave! Mainly due to the fact this is a tutorial. I’m inexperienced hence my research, but immediately knew that was a no-no. Shut power off at the main box 1st. Then follow this procedure outside, set aside the fuse and close the box. The reverse procedure after the job is complete.
I followed these directions and my AC is now working great! Thanks a ton for the help and saving me a ton of money!
You taught me something. I had NO idea the ac outside condenser, needed to be cleaned. Totally saved a repair bill. Thanks, and I subscribed!
Thanks ! Just cleaned mine. Gr8 tip. Was getting ready to call for service. Checked - U tube first and found you. Im guessing I saved a couple $100.
Thank you so much for your videos. I am a hard working hands of kind of woman and if someone can shoe me how to do things for the inside and outside of my house I will do it. I was pondering, huh I I wonder if I need to clean the ac unit. I searched for videos and I clicked on your video. Thanks again. I pressured washed my unit with my thumb. 🧟
I'm glad you found my video helpful. Thanks for watching!
Best way is start cleaning from inside to outside of the condonser coil, and and beter to close the electric panel after you pull out the fuse.
Prime example of a half informed homeowner. He's actually compounding his problem by driving the rest of the dirt you don't see deeper into the coil. In order for the coil to collect that kind of debris on the surface , the interior of the coil has to be plugged. True by cleaning the coils annually will not only increase operational efficiency but will also help keep the units running longer and lessen the frequency of repair.....however....the tops should be pulled and the coils back flushed from inside out using a mild detergent. You don't wash your car without soap...why would you was these without? Thanks for the attempt and thank you for making more work for the skilled trades. We appreciate people like you.
Prime example of a condescending tradesman. Seems like every single one of you have to be condescending and rude when you discuss your trade with people who don't practice it. Believe it or not, you could get the information across to people without sounding like a pompous ass.
Your method is certainly better than not doing it at all, but like everyone else, I use a different method. 1.) Turn off the unit at the thermostat. 2.) Flip the breaker off for the A/C unit at the fuse box. 3.) Take off the top of the A/C unit. 4.) Spray Coil Cleaner all over the inside of the A/C's coils. 5.) Wait five to ten minutes. 6.) Spray the Coil Cleaner off using a garden hose, spraying from the inside of the A/C unit to the outside. 7.) Keep spraying the coils until the water comes out clear. 8.) Go have a beer and think about how much money you saved by doing A/C maintenance yourself.
@Dwight Clark Can step#8 be performed first?
Step 8 in my opinion should be tequila
I did not know this was required maintenance and as a recent widow, I am trying to figure out all I need to do for the house, cars and yard. My concern is that I won't get those fuses in correctly. Thanks for this. I will say this, I haven't even used my AC yet this year and I am in Texas with temps in the lo 90s today and I can thank my radiant barrier for that.
Here where I live it`s the cotton wood trees that really plug up central air conditioners. I`ll give this a try. Thanks.
Hoosier Daddy Get word out to buy only male cottonwood trees. They don’t produce the crap. Only pollinated female trees do.
Great video, Thanks! I'm gonna use your method as well as spend some time straightening out the fins that have been been bent by the lawn mowers by previous owners of my house. Thanks and God Bless!!
Thank you for speaking slowly and clearly as this is a foreign language to me...maintaing the ac is a first for me. Hubby is an engineer but travels and exhausted so I need to give this a try. AC is only 4 years old and went down overnight. I have trimmed bushes and weeds than impede air flow..next is hose on condense. I have never touched fuse box before..a bit nervous. But it is hot in OHIO and I'm unemployeed so I need to try to do this. Again, Thanks for your helpful, clear, directions and for taking care of your home! I learned to mow our one acre this weekend. Youngest went back to college:(
Way to go! Glad I could help and thanks for watching!
"garden hose and my thumb"..... I give this video both thumbs, way up
Thx.
My thumb has many uses! Lol. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video. I didn't unplug the fuse box I just used the hose like you said and I got most of the lint off.
Thanks for the advice, this helped me quite a bit
How do I get my wife to mow the yard?
By getting a new one
Buy her a $2700 lawn mower! Worked for mine!
+KhNCryptopsy lol
lol give that hope up
Rich Smith lmao good one
Why not take the top pan off and clean from the inside out? It seems like you'd just be spraying all that gunk inside the unit. So after several times of cleaning it this way you're going to have to clean the inside, which will be 10x harder than if you just cleaned from the inside in the first place.
lol Preach
Queen Rexy
It could be like my units and have the motor attached to the top pan. Tried to take it out but electrical wires are too short to raise it.
But I flush somewhat from the inside out and similar to what he did.
The thing is I never allowed my units to look that bad because I've always waited before removing covers until most of the seeds and stuff from trees stopped flying in Spring then flush and I flush again and cover it before the leaves fall.
Also have a long length brush.
But I've always had a very light coating of that cotton stuff and that's it.
And I kept my area spotless. Not grass or anything growing near it.
Still puts out cold with no change and no issues in past 10 years since new.
You should always clean opposite direction of airflow. So he should have gone inside to out. Doing it the way he did will eventually impact it and make it worse.
That's a good idea. It looked like he wasn't using a lot of pressure though so he's probably alright. You could see all the stuff running downward rather than inward.
Mine needed cleaning bad, it would just run and run and not get anywhere with it
That cottonwood can really cover the coil. Good to remove it. Also good to use coil cleaner spray to loosen dirt in the fins.
I had no idea people have to pull their A/C fuses when rinsing down the condenser. Do we also have to pull the fuse when it starts raining?
Yes, or else the AC will explode.
Does this work for a recent lawn mowing?
Im renting a room in this house and the agents thought it be okay to let the month of August go by without mowing the grass, and when they finally did mow the grads, they gave us a surprise bonus and left the AC dirty and the house warm as hell.
Lol at "my wife is mowing the lawn right now" sure, that's a great time to record a video
True, I didn't really plan on making a video that day, we were just doing chores. For some reason I changed my mind and made the video...sorry for the distractions! (but at least my wife mowed the lawn!! Mmmmwaaaaahhhhh!)
What’s wrong with the wife helping?
@3RAN7ON So you are one of those who watch videos just to make a smart ass comment. Get a life, ERANTON.
@@juggalosquad5027 They are Neanderthals that think the women need to be in the kitchen and the mowing a lawn is "manly."
Why do you need to pull the fuse if the rain gets in there with no electrical problems right?
Thank you for your video-we will do this tomorrow!
Can you use Vinegar to clean it as well? I sprayed it all down (without using vinegar) and it looks good. Got rid of the yellow pollen, easy.
You can...I'd go with a 50 50 mixture vinegar and water.
Thank you. Worked out great this morning
Great tutorial!👍 I just have to ask, how do you get all the dirt outside the unit floor / bottom? Or did you left it there? I mean, is that alright? Or does it need to be vacuumed out? Please let me know, and thanks again!🤗
Thank you! Rinsing the coils is the best way to keep your efficiency up there. Removing what's been pushed out is important (and should be done once in a while) but it requires removing the top cover (lid with the fan attached). If you're up to the task, it's just a few sheet metal screws to remove (8-12) and you'll probably need a helper to lift if off evenly. But take a second and think about how the machine works. The fan blows air up, sucking air through the cooling coils. After you clean the coils and the debris inside dries, there's a fair chance that it will be exhausted by the top fan. But if you want to be thorough, rinse the sides, then remove the top and vacuum/rinse out...I usually don't do this and my first central AC units lasted 28 years.
DANDLINC Thank you very much! I’ll follow your advice.👍
Thank you for the advice my friend 😊
I never unplug the fuses and use a what do you call it sprayer in jet flushing position. Thanks!
Looks like you need to do it more often.
I have a American standard and it has a lot of screws to remove the panel and the top. I can’t do it myself can I spray from the outside like this? I noticed there’s a bunch of leaves inside mine is ok if the leaves get wet? Can I still do it this way because these American standards are too hard to take off.
AWESOME VIDEO!!! EXTREMELY HELPFUL🙏❤
How is unit on left clean, and unit on right caked up. You are supposed to clean from the inside out. You are pushing some dirt back down into the find by cleaning from outside. You have to take off top fan motor to access inside to do job properly.
Mike Spain
Yup. And the foaming cleaner helps, too.
You cant just take the top off of those specific units and some others... you have to get in through the side panel which if he takes it off exposes the coil very clearly but a lot of people are scared to open them up.
This will definitely help but most condensers have a two and sometimes three pass coil that requires “splitting the coil” also a pressure washer will make all the difference properly used so you don’t fold the fins.
Helpful to me, thanks.
thanks for saving me some money buddy
Thank you
Is it easy to remove the top for me to vacuum the inside on this Carrier model?
Is there any reason you wouldn't use a vacuum, being careful to not bend the fins? Using a fine tooth comb to gently get most of the visible stuff out first?
Thank you! Seriously! This video was a big help.
Best coil cleaning difference I’ve seen to date
Thanks Vann Berg! Appreciate the comment and view. Don't forget to sub! DANDLINC.
I'm gonna clean my unit soon hope to save on some money. dont think I'm gonna disconnect power should be fine just make sure unit stays off while cleaning it.thanks
I really wish mine would be that easy cleanup with a hose. I don’t know what it is, but the dirt here in vegas is sticky as sh!t 😅😅😅 great vid, thanks!
RELOADINGandSHOOTING you can buy cheap coil cleaner that is no acid etc etc at your hvac or lowes for about 20 bucks it will in dry heat stick red clay areas
Hello from Florida! Great video. Every year at this time my A/C does this thing where it only works at night. During the day it runs and runs but the house is hot. At night, it's nice and cool. Any ideas?
That I don't know, but with luck someone else will chime in....thx for watching.
Yeah your unit needs servicing immediately. It's not that it's working at night...but because the ambient air is cooler at night anyway. I bet you've got dirty condenser and evaporator coils. You may even be low on refrigerant also. You need a FULL servicing. You need to change your filters more often and more coil cleanings as well. Your unit is highly inefficient and wasting you loads of money.
same thing my home . put in new duct work and a little bigger unit - . 5 ton bigger and new air handler 8.000 later works perfect . needs to be serviced 2 times a year.. Carrier unit , its perfect dan sarasota . old unit 9 years old.
leave FL
Yes this is common. Your coils are dirty. Do what this guy is doing and try and get your hands on some foaming coil cleaner. Lots of debris gets stuck between the fins where you can’t see
question, wouldn't the hose water (which is usually the dirtiest), eat at the copper coil piping or possibly cause rusting??
Only if you expose it to hose water every day. Once isn't gonna do anything.
No pre soak cleaner?
Thanks for posting this!
Living in Florida, I always have chameleons jumping into the fan and killing themselves. The top of the condenser has a metal grate over it with openings large enough for a 4 inch chameleon to get into with no problem. I see your condensers have a smaller grate system which would keep this from happening. Carrier should be using these instead of what they sell in Florida which is essentially a lizard trap that has to be cleaned out when Carrier does their periodic maintenance every so often.
I hope you mean geckos
whattheschmidt Or anoles
Need to foam around that hole in the siding where the gas pipe enters the house...
I have to clean mine off almost every year due to all the grass clippings being sucked in. I need to make some kind of screen to put on the outside to catch it then I can just shake the grass clippings off of the screen.
Thanks dude!
Is there a chemical to use on these coils to clean them better? if so, then what is the most recommended to use?
Water. Good pressure and water. Inside out.
Thank you
Nu calgon foaming coil cleaner. Wear gloves and face protection cause it burns
Thanks a lot for your feedback
Carlos Saenz black max
it is a better practice to flush it from the inside out. You have to disconnect a few things and take the lid off. You are basically pushing all the grime into the fins by doing it this way.
FYI...
You can put the fuses back in upside down to keep it disconnected.
What could it be if my ac unit id leaking water constantly when before wasnt doing it the water is coming from unit inside not outside any suggestions?
Confensate drain probably clogged take pvc of suck out with shopvac or compressed nitrogen will def. Get it
Great tips! Thanks!
Thanks dad
Thanks this is really helpful
Very helpful, Thanks!!
Thanks
From Saudi Arabia
You have air conditioning in Saudi Arabia? I thought it was freezing down there )))
I was looking how to clean a vapemod coil and this thing came up :/
Oops. Sorry???
One point...if your unit gets THAT BLOCKED you need to clean it more then just " spring"
True, it had been sometime since we've cleaned these. Several seasons.
What will happen if you use a power washer?
I use a 44,000 PSI pressure washer. Cleans those stupid fins right off. Now I have a great heater! Don't know why it was cooling things down.
I did this today and alot of dirt and debris came of. I sprayed the outside but I have some stuff to clean out on the inside.
Shut the cut off box cover
Shouldn't I lubricate moving parts after hosing the unit? Curious.
James Pollman no
Thanks that was nice And easy
Great job.
Unfortunately mine is a rooftop unit so it will be a bit more of a hassle. I'm mainly concerned about where the water goes when you've sprayed so much into it. Don't want it going into the attic.
Same place as rainwater?
we just had a professional tell us he would charge us $350. to clean the coils! And he charged us $65 to tell us this. BTW. Our coils appear to be clean. (?)
Holy Cow!
Watch youtuve videos take a class early Saturday morning at the local supply store etc to learn and DIY. Trust me you will be surprised on how words you don't know and unit you are unfamiliar with become very simple and understood. Car mechanics, hvac, roofers, etc the majority are quacks and shitty workers. Change your filters, clean your condenser coil, operate the thermostat correctly, visually inspect your duct work, keep all vents open, treat your condensate line and you should be fine. If you system is older say 8 years or more yeah you might have a blower motor, fan wheel, capacitor or contact go but overall those are like brake pads and rotors wearing on your car it is a wearable part. Things like a refrigerant leak or due to poor maintenance a compressor goes then you might consider getting a new unit. Since R12 will be obsolete soon and the price for this type of refrigerant is high it might be worth it depending on your scenario, i.e. did they fix the leak if they could find it or just "top you off" for $120 buck and will have to do it yearly? The new systems use R410 I believe. Safer for environment.
lol.. Crooks
Who are these ass clowns that you speak of?Give out names so they lose business!!Freaking rip off!!!
lindavip normal
There's a reason why you hire a pro to do this for you. Your supposed to wash from the inside out which requires removing the top and the hail guards. Rinsing from the outside just pushes dirt deeper into the coils. Sure you're removing the cotton seed fuzz and large debris, but eventually you will need chemical cleaning to remove all the crud you jammed deeper in there.
It's all fun and games for the UA-cam diy warrior untill you get hit with 240v or kill your equipment and guess what. You can't diy your own hvac system replacement.
If he can do it i can do it. A part is a part. Its a piece of metal and wires to connect the dot.
What happens when you clean the coil with out turning the unit off ?
Your suppose to spray from the inside out so u don’t compact the dirt in the coils
Anyone knows any good videos on cleaning the ones on the inside ac unit
A lot of those Carrier's have double row coils and have to be split to clean them properly
If my AC world when it's raining outside, why do I need to unplug it 👀😕
Precaution
Is it necessary to take out the fuse?
Make sure you check/verify that your outdoor unit does not have split coils. If they do... watch some other videos that instruct you on how to clean them... just running the water hose over the coils as this gentleman did is not a complete instruction/job. He may not be knowledgeable as of him creating this video add to that there are multiple techniques/methods as well as nuances and variables in any and every maintenance procedure. Generally speaking what he is doing does serve a purpose but is lacking as one needs to check the Hi and Low pressures while check for a 20 degree delta T across the coils as well as sub-cooling and super-heat. You may have other issues with the unit that you cannot detect. And yes there are Techs that appear to be scamming customers out there but there are a lot of great Techs that do a great job and are very honest in their dealings with you. They focus on quality work and craftsmanship and customer education while ensuring a proper design and a system that matches the load of the structure. Last note: EDUCATE YOURSELF ABOUT YOUR UNIT AND HOW THESE MACHINES OPERATE THIS WILL SAVE YOU MONEY AS YOU WILL KNOW WHEN A TECH IS NOT KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT A SYSTEM OR PROCEDURE TO TEST AND DIAGNOSE PROPERLY OR COMPLETELY.
Thank you for sharing!
Have a company come out and clean them. Hitting them with a hose is better than nothing, but you're not actually cleaning them. A chemical cleaner needs to be used clean the copper and aluminum to maintain the ability to transfer heat from the refrigerant moving through the coil. Leave a copper pipe outside for a few months. Then try to clean it up with water. Doesn't work.
jimmy112405112405
or buy a can of coil cleaner from HD or Lowes for $4, take the cowling off, and do it yourself.
I'm learning basic HVAC maintenance for some rental properties & home. My many experiences w/ HVAC techs over 15-plus years leads me to believe that they are mostly dishonest. Try to get an HVAC tech to service a residential unit and hose down the condenser seems to be an affront to their egos. I'm doing it myself in a couple of days to avoid the cheating $ and also their recommendations that I always need a new system. Ughh.
yeah my AC company wants to charge me $250 to clean my coils after giving me a $100 discount. I had no clue that I can do this myself without taking the unit apart.
buy a gallon of aluminum brightened spray on coils then let it foam up then rinse.
I've seen some do that. I was just going for a quick fix....maybe next time? Thanks. DANDLINC.
This wont hurt the fins or coils?
Can i clean it just to have thermostat on off position without disconnecting?
I'd remove the power at the source....just a bit more safe. Thx for watching.
The thermostat is just sending a measly 24 volts to the controls. Meanwhile removing the disconnect switch will prevent the approx. 220 volts that powers the unit from discharging while your spraying water.
Good idea to close the door on the A/C disconnect too. Line side is still hot and waters just not welcome. I'm all for my wife mowing the lawn but why's she doing it while you're making a UA-cam video?
All I got from this whole video is "my wife is mowing the yard" !
Working on my truck yesterday and I heard the brand new Goodman outside unit kick on and then a loud BING BANG BING BANG BING noise. I thought it threw a rod or the transmission fell out or worse. It was pieces of a bird all chewed up like it fell into a meat grinder! How the heck-o-pete did a bird get past the louvres on top? Yuck. Now I’m looking at videos on how to clean guts off my AC. Poor little woodland creatures don’t stand a chance
Lazy service tech, never push cotton into the coils, remove the lid wash from inside out, washing into the coil pushes junk into the coils, real service tech's pull the top and wash from the inside out.
Subbed. Thank You !
Always clean from the inside out. You will end up making the coil much worse. Then techs like me have to clean it the right way and you get mad because of how much the company we work for charges.
Lmao what an ignorant comment. Techs like YoU
What happens if you don’t cut the unit off and you cleaning the coil
I’ve done it twice, didn’t know I had to pull fuses. I just turned the HVAC off and sprayed for 10-15 minutes. My system is still working fine. I’ll probably pull fuses next time though.
REALLY!!! THANK FOR ALL THE INTERFERANCE NOISE...
A few years!!?? Can't believe it still runs! Next time shut the unit off from your thermostat inside the house, then pull out the fuse... and shut the fuse box!
Does the inside need to be cleaned?
I only clean the heat exchangers on the outside...they get gunked up and can't effectively dissipate the heat. Thx for watching!
very helpful
Wrong! industry standard is to use CalClean or equivalent / evaporator/condenser cleaner... this method only removes the dogwood & solid particulate from the exterior of the coil the fins are still dirty & will not work at peak efficiency. People please use A professional. all be it rinsing a condenser coil that looks like that will improve performance it can be done better. PS switch the breaker off from the main panel indoors first.

thanks ......gr888888 video......5 biskits........
