Where did you get the screw for this project. I am having a hard time locating it.

I borrowed it from my electric drum kit, under the hi-hat pedal to be exact.

Is there any chance you might try another iron filing and spinning magnet test ? Specifically as follows : an soft iron or mild steel ring ( no gaps ) , sprinkle with iron filings and spin a disc magnet below it, the axis being on the flat face .... then try the experiment again but this time wrap the iron ring with a single toroid coil ( no gaps ) of copper wire, sprinkle with iron filings and repeat the spinning disc to observe the results ..... I'm really curious about whether or not the magnetic field from the pole closest to the ring will be mostly absorbed into the ring or will it just flow through it .... thanks
